CBS’s Nancy Cordes admitted that former President Joe Biden’s administration knew that Ukraine would have to surrender some of its territory to end the war with Russia.

The slip is significant because Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth told NATO that Ukraine regaining its “pre-204 borders is an unrealistic objective.”
Of course, the left and the media used Hegseth’s words as proof that President Donald Trump is Russia’s stooge.
No. Trump’s administration has no problem saying the hard truths out loud.
Russia “annexed” Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, about a month after Kyiv ousted “President” Viktor Yanukovych, a literal Putin puppet.
I used quotes around annexed because no one will ever convince me the vote was clean and fair.
Anyway, many of the Russian-speaking towns in the east erupted when Yanukovych left, giving Russia an excuse to move in and take over. Granted, who knows if the eruption and demands to leave Ukraine were organic or orchestrated by Russia.

I have a novel idea — what do the ordinary people of Donetsk want? Do they want to be Russian or Ukrainian? Perhaps we should ask them.

What they ‘want’ isn’t relevant.
There are exactly 2 options on the table:
1) Make peace with Putin, which will involve Ukraine giving up territory for that peace.
2) NATO sends hundreds of thousands of troops to fight to take back that territory.
Those are the only options. And since despite their propaganda crap about PUTIN TEH EVILZ, Europe was never going to actually send troops to fight, which demonstrates they never actually BELIEVED the propaganda about how Putin was some huge threat to Europe.
UKRAINE GOOD, PUTIN BAD, SEND MONEY NOW, was nothing ever than a propaganda strategy to lose slowly while stealing as much money as possible, and it’s DONE.
That question could be asked about parts of Texas. And for the same reason.
In fact it was asked when the Soviet Union dissolved.
An intact Ukraine would have been wonderful until Obama and Nu,land decided otherwise. Hopefully, the piggy bank politics of the US back then can be discovered.
I was just thinking about Victoria Nuland and her involvement, which I suspect was the source of the Russia-Ukraine war. I believe she is the one person who dragged us into funding that war. She and Vickman must be held accountable.
If we were really worried about an intact ukraine, we’d have never forced them to give up their nuclear arsenal.

The fellow I refer to as my barefoot constitutional scholar (and ambassador from CSPOA) has a wife from that region of Ukraine. According to her (and he agrees), the people in her area are Russian and would so much prefer to be part of Russia. This fellow is a former sheriff and is more patriotic than Patton — he’s no Russian plant. That’s why when it comes to he said, she said, my money stays on what she said.
One question I have was are those people long time inhabitants of the region or were their families settled there by Russia so that they could claim ownership (much as China has settled Chinese in Tibet since acquiring it).

It will be interesting to see what becomes of this comedian turned wartime president. Trump has indicated that he intends to claw back US funds that Sleepy Joe sent to Ukraine.

I don’t have the receipts, but I bet they happily covered Trump’s tax returns, which were not only irrelevant, but perfectly innocent AND a violation of his privacy.
Israel should just annex the “West Bank” like Jordan did after the 1948 war. and just say they are following the precedence set by Russia (and China).
Yes, even those idiots saw that it was a lost cause. Ukraine cannot underground power reclaim that territory and that’s just a fact. Unless we’re willing to put troops on the ground it will not happen, and that ain’t happening
Nobody can tell Ukraine it must concede territory.
But trump can say that Ukraine isn’t eligible for NATO membership, and the US isn’t going to provide blank check for military support.
If other EU nations want to fund 10 year stalemate, that’s on them. Let them step up and do the heavy lifting. This is their sphere of influence.
Well yes, adults can tell Ukraine they will not get land back they lost to Russia. That is just a matter of fact.
However as you say, if Europe wants this was to continue then they are going to have to pony up the money for that to happen.
The current borders of Ukraine were established by Lenin after the October Revolution and then exppanded by Stalin after WWII. In both instances the border was established for an entity that was an integral part of the Soviet Union – not evolved organically. Now that Ukraine is no longer in integral part of the Soviet Union, its borders seem arbitrary. It is high time for Western Democracies to quit defending these borders arbitrarily defined by Communist rulers and get to rational borders.
