Washington Post Announces Layoffs and Reassignment of Their ‘Gender Columnist’

Last year, the Washington Post lost more than $70 million dollars, no small feat. Of course, when you see their columnist Jen Rubin talking about Trump supporters, it’s easy to see how that happened.

Now the paper is preparing to lay off dozens of staffers.

Amy Furr of Breitbart News:

Report — ‘The Cuts Will Be Deep’: Washington Post to Lay Off Dozens of Staffers

The Washington Post will reportedly lay off dozens of its staffers in the next few days, the news coming after the publication caught flak for not endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris (D) during the presidential election that Donald Trump won in November.

In his article published on Status, Oliver Darcy wrote Sunday that “the layoffs are slated to hit the Jeff Bezos-owned and Will Lewis-led newspaper’s business division, I’m told. One person familiar with the matter said that the cuts will be deep, impacting many dozens of employees.”

Bezos has reportedly been shaking up the Post after it decided not to endorse Harris, according to Breitbart News.

Darcy continued:

The layoffs will surely deplete morale further inside the beleaguered newspaper, which has suffered a talent exodus over the last several weeks. As I reported earlier, star reporter Josh Dawsey will exit The Post for a job at The Wall Street Journal. His departure comes on the heels of other top staffers fleeing, including Matea Gold, Ashely Parker, Michael Scherer, Charles Lane, Tyler Pager, and Amanda Katz.

In addition to all of this, the paper is reassigning their ‘gender columnist’ Monica Hesse.

FOX News reports:

Washington Post editors ‘killed’ piece from its ‘gender columnist,’ plan to scrap role entirely

The Washington Post is planning on eliminating its “gender columnist” position after the writer penned a piece that was ultimately scrapped by the paper’s editors, Fox News Digital has learned.

Monica Hesse, who made headlines in 2018 by becoming The Post’s first-ever “gender columnist,” will not hold that title much longer after writing a column about gender was “killed” by her editors, two sources tell Fox News Digital. It is unclear what Hesse had written in the column and what the editors objected to.

Hesse, currently a columnist for the paper’s Style section, is expected to be reassigned either to its Opinions section or remain in Style as a reporter, the sources added.

“It’s sad and so unnecessary,” one source told Fox News Digital.

Woke journalism has hit a wall and the Washington Post is not alone in this. Ratings at CNN and MSNBC crashed after the 2024 election and have still not recovered.

The main problem for these outlets is that they have painted themselves into a corner. If they try to recalibrate politically, they will face revolt from within, as we saw when Chris Licht tried to enact reforms at CNN. Externally, their few remaining far left readers would also push back.

They are in an impossible situation entirely of their own making.

What the heck is a “gender columnist”?

I know of a Supreme Court Justice who, not being a biologist, is in need of a gender columnist to advise on gender cases that come before the court.

A gender(columnist) reassignment.

I wonder what gender the columnist will be assigned.

I thought gender columnists were assigned at birth.

If she is re-assigned does that make her a transgender?

Is the Washington Post going broke? I wonder how long it will hemorrhage money before going under?

Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post was worth a reported $236 billion in 2023, The WaPo’s loss of $77 million last year is small potatoes compared to what Bezos is worth. He can easily afford such losses. His net worth of $236 billion is about 3,000 times the WaPo’s reported loss last year of $77 million.

The question is: does Bezos want to keep sustaining such losses? Layoffs indicate that he does not. WaPo laid off 250 in October 2023. The current layoffs are “dozens.”

If Bezos sold the WaPo to its employees, the employees-owners would soon find out that they couldn’t sustain such losses.

Wow, you mean Bezos actually expects the Post to be a business instead of a journalism-free propaganda organ?

I don’t know what to think.

The Wall Street Journal is hiring that fake news nut case? I have had enough. The WSJ is now dead news, I pick them up at the desk when I travel every day. Lately they are strange fantasists. Climate, globalism etc.

It’s funny that all the “stars” at the Post listed in the article are people I’ve never heard about.
