Ron DeSantis Slams Media for Attacking Trump, Giving a Pass to Democrats Newsom and Bass

“So you guys sitting in judgment of Donald Trump, I mean, excuse me, I think your track record of politicizing these things is very, very bad.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday for a meeting between Republican governors and Donald Trump. At some point after the event, DeSantis took some questions from the press and ended up blasting the journalists for coming after Trump for supposedly politicizing the California fires.

DeSantis defended Trump and was quick to point out how the press will give a free pass to Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass while coming after Republicans.

REPORTER: Is it appropriate for a president-elect or a president to be criticizing —

GOV. RON DESANTIS (R-FL): Is it appropriate for people in your industry to try to create division and to try to create narratives anytime these things happen? Now, you’re not as interested in doing that because Newsom is a D. If Newsom was a Republican, you guys would go try to, you would have him nailed to the wall for what they’re doing over there.

And I know we’ve dealt with it. We just assume in Florida, anytime something happens, it’s going to be politicized by the media. So you guys sitting in judgment of Donald Trump, I mean, excuse me, I think your track record of politicizing these things is very, very bad.

REPORTER: But Trump said Newsom should resign and that the wildfires are all his fault. So do you agree with those comments?

DESANTIS: I’ve had — I remember when we had the Surfside Tower collapse.

I had people from the Washington Post trying to blame me for it immediately without having any facts or anything. Oh, he didn’t declare a state of emergency. First of all, state of emergency doesn’t mean you can’t respond.

It’s all that.

REPORTER: Biden didn’t.

DESANTIS: Excuse me?

REPORTER: Biden didn’t. That’s what she said.

DESANTIS: Well, but what I’m telling you is you guys are trying to make an issue of it. When I have watched from this seat, in fact, when I got elected governor, I was meeting with some of the other Republican governors and what they would say is, “Hey, if you have a natural disaster, just know media’s coming at you.”

They’re going to do it. It’s not the same. That mayor of LA, if that were a Republican mayor, I can only imagine what that would do.

Watch the video. This is great. DeSantis has a talent for dealing with the media.

DeSantis, who is arguably the most effective governor in the country, has offered Florida’s assistance to California despite the fact that Gavin Newsom has repeatedly tried to use him as a political foil. Funny how none of the reporters asked about that.

FOX News reported:

DeSantis halts rivalry with Newsom, offers aid to besieged blue state governor

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has offered to assist California as Gov. Gavin Newsom is grappling with multiple fires ripping through Los Angeles County this week.

“Our prayers are with everyone affected by the horrific fires in Southern California. When disaster strikes, we must come together to help our fellow Americans in any way we can,” DeSantis posted to X on Wednesday morning.

“The state of Florida has offered help to assist the people of California in responding to these fires and in rebuilding communities that have been devastated,” he added.

DeSantis’ offer of support to California comes after he recently led his state through Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene last year. The two governors have frequently traded barbs with one another in recent years, most notably when Florida was open for business during the pandemic, and California implemented strict lockdown orders and mandates.

No, this is not all Gavin Newsom’s fault.
It is the fault of nearly all of the Democrats in California. That said Gavin is their leader so should be held as the major responsible party.

How can the climate hysteria narrative be supported if the press assigns blame to Cali politicians?

That would imply there were some actions that could have mitigated thee fires, which is not something Newsom and California Democrats want to admit.

Let’s explore that argument of ‘climate change’. Stipulate that ‘climate change’ makes wildfires more likely and we are.still left with worse than do nothing CA Leadership, we have CA leaders actively thwarting and impeding common sense mitigation measures.

So of ‘climate change’ sets conditions of increased wildfire risk then the CA Leadership should have increased the mitigation measures to match/exceed the risk level. They didn’t. No additional water storage capacity. No additional pumping capacity to go up into elevated areas nor to directly pump from ocean for beachfront areas. Didn’t hire to 100% of authorized level of firefighting personnel. Didn’t purchase additional firefighting aircraft. Didn’t heed warnings from meteorologists, didn’t have a workable evacuation plan, didn’t build additional lanes of roadway to accommodate evacuation traffic, didn’t mobilize the CA NG and get them on standby prior to the events. Didn’t perform brush clearance, removal of dead/excess ladder fuel, didn’t create adequate fire breaks.

In sum using ‘climate change’ as the reason for elevated risks of wildfire doesn’t relieve CA and LA leaders of their massive failures to prepare for this or react effectively to it.

Absolutly right. If you “know” that wildfires are more likely you should work harder on the mitigations of clearing underbrush and cutting firebreaks.

All IF there really is climate change. So Cal is essentially a desert, arid with occasional “wet” winters. Rainfall is not plentiful. LA had tapped into the Owens Valley for Sierra snow runoff. And more recently the Colorado River. That’s where the water to fuel the growth comes from. The climate is being the climate, doing its own thing. As bad as the eco-idiots, the real estate crazies and their fully-owned politicians are thinking they can change nature.

Before becoming mayor, Bass spent a combination of 17 years as a state legislator and member of Congress. Her work experience prior to that has nothing executive/in-charge-of something. When she’s speaking to the press, she’s speaking exactly how a legislator would: repeat the talking points. They’re the fallback, the security blanket. But now, when she’s in a position in which people are looking for concrete answers, for action, the fallback is shown to be exactly what it is: platitudes that ring hollow to listeners’ ears and show how out of their element she and her administration are. Even those who previously would have taken the talking points at face value see how worthless they are.

It’s big difference with her and Newsom when compared to DeSantis. DeSantis talks action., and you know the buck stops with him.

If DeSantis really wants to help the people of California he could subsidize UHaul rentals so they can get the hell out of that craphole.

Too bad Florida can’t send a hurricane to SoCal. That would take care of the fires.
