New York Magazine Hit Piece on Young GOP Influencers Cuts Black Conservatives From Cover Photo

If there’s one thing that’s unquestionably true about the media in 2025, it is that it learned absolutely nothing from the 2024 presidential election.

We saw this, for instance, in a recent article from the New York Times, which tried to erase former President Joe Biden’s obscene wokeification of the United States military while bashing President Trump for having the nerve to try and put an end to it.

There was also MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell, who attempted to smear veterans for allegedly being a bigger threat than illegal immigrants.

And let us also not forget the Associated Press story that conveniently tried to bury the fact that Laken Riley’s murderer was an illegal immigrant.

The latest example comes courtesy of a hit piece on young, Trump-supporting conservatives/influencers published by New York Magazine and which featured a cover image that gave the impression that not a single person of color was at an inauguration eve “Power 30 Awards” party that was held in Washington, D.C.:

The article itself made sure to throw in the suggestion that “almost everyone” who was part of the young conservative influencer movement “was white” and quoted a woman from another gathering who allegedly said to the reporter covering the various inauguration-related events, “Have you noticed the entire room is white?”

From an aesthetic standpoint, this new class of conservatives is willing to top off a perfectly stylish outfit with a MAGA hat, which now comes in lots of colors: red, yes, but also yellow, green, orange, or black, the “dark MAGA” kind that Elon Musk wears. Almost everyone is white. The men look like Pete Hegseth, in bow ties and black suits, with clean-shaven faces. The women are almost all out of their league.[…]“Have you noticed the entire room is white?” an older woman in an updo and a silver sequined gown asked me, though it wasn’t entirely clear whether she thought that was a good thing or a bad thing. The Laken Riley Act was a popular topic of conversation.[…]On my last night, I got to smoking with a model type in a fur coat with a vaguely European accent. I’d later discover she’s married to an alt-right activist with ties to white nationalists.

Conservatives, including C.J. Pearson, a co-chair of the GOP Youth Advisory Council and who co-hosted the “Power 30” gathering from which the cover photo was taken, took notice of the differences between the cover photo and the photo used inside the magazine:

Some of the black conservative attendees also weighed in:

On a much more humorous note, Vice President J.D. Vance also had thoughts:

No one should be surprised by any of this – after all, according to the woke left if you are a minority and you support conservative public figures and causes then you are a sellout. But it’s still maddening all the same, and further proof not just that the press hasn’t learned anything since November but also that all their talk about supposed support for “diversity” in viewpoints comes with an asterisk attached to it.
