Anti-Israel Protesters at Columbia University Face Disciplinary Hearings

Since this is Columbia University, I doubt these students will face any real consequences.

The Columbia Spectator reports:

University Judicial Board holds disciplinary hearings during winter break for student protestersThe University Judicial Board held disciplinary hearings during winter break for student protesters who participated in the April 17 “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on South Lawn, according to a University official. The University official confirmed to Spectator that the first set of disciplinary hearings took place during the weeks of Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 through the University Judicial Board, a five-member panel which pursues disciplinary action against students accused of breaking the Rules of University Conduct.Disciplinary hearings for participants in the second “Gaza Solidarity Encampment”—which started on April 18 after the New York Police Department’s sweep of the first encampment—and the occupation of Hamilton Hall have yet to take place.“Under our statutes, we rely on the University Judicial Board to conduct these disciplinary processes, which are ongoing, pursuant to the Rules of University Conduct,” a University spokesperson wrote in a statement to Spectator. “The hearings related to the events of last spring are ongoing, and to protect the sanctity of our processes, we will not comment on ongoing hearings and processes.”Columbia University Apartheid Divest wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday that the board gave students two weeks’ notice before their hearings. They encouraged users to send an email to the University through a template linked in their Instagram bio, outlining demands for Columbia to drop its charges against protesters who participated in the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment.”As of Saturday, over 51,000 individuals have sent emails to the University, according to Action Network, the platform used to distribute the email template.“The aforementioned disciplinary cases have remained in progress for two hundred and sixty-two days after the protests in question, a gross violation of the Rules of University Conduct,” the template reads. “Through this drawn-out and bigoted process, the university has not been able to produce ANY individualized evidence against the students charged while simultaneously attempting to use SEALED legal records in direct violation of NY state law.”
