MSNBC’s Ratings Have Gotten So Bad That Joy Reid and Others Are Facing Pay Cuts

Since the election in November, ratings have crashed at MSNBC and CNN. Many of their regular viewers felt duped by their insistence that there was no way Trump could win and just walked away.
At MSNBC, things are so bad that Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle are facing pay cuts if they want to keep their jobs.
The New York Post reported:

MSNBC’s Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle will reportedly need to take a pay cut if they want to remain in their anchor chairs as the struggling cable network continues to cut costs.
The left-leaning news channel — which recently gave star anchor Rachel Maddow a $5 million-a-year haircut from her annual $30 million haul — has been negotiating with Reid and Ruhle on new deals at reduced salaries, according to the Ankler newsletter.
The controversial Reid is believed to be earning $3 million a year to host her nightly 8 p.m. show, “The ReidOut,” according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Reid, who has been with the network since 2011 and in primetime since 2020, recently raised hackles again with a pre-Thanksgiving rant in which she accused Republicans of worshiping Donald Trump “instead of Jesus.”
Ruhle, host of “The 11th Hour” at 11 p.m. weeknights, is thought to make $2 million a year, the Free Beacon reported.
MSNBC is just a far left echo chamber. There isn’t a single pro-Trump voice on the entire network and their employees lost their minds when NBC News tried to hire former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel as a contributor last March. At least CNN has Scott Jennings.
Changes could be on the horizon, though.

The new boss of the media firm that oversees MSNBC wants more Republican voices on the network – and to move more opinion content out of primetime along with cuts to some high-profile presenters’ pay.
SpinCo CEO Mark Lazarus expressed his desire for the new direction multiple times over the past month, seeking to shed the perception of liberal bias at MSNBC.
To accomplish this, insiders said he is mulling running opinion programming during the day, The Ankler reported.
The changes may come with pay cuts for longtime opinion hosts like Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle, who are discussions about their future at the network.
This comes weeks after the CEO is said to have slashed Rachel Maddow’s pay by some $5 million, after she agreed to stay with the network for another five years.
It’s amazing that Joy Reid has been making $3 million a year. There are amateurs on YouTube who get more viewers than she does.

I’m as happy as anyone to see MSNDNC suffer. On the other hand, I would love to be in the position of having to negotiate my salary down where my starting point was $3 million a year.

The beauty of capitalism is that corporations get to put their money where their mouth is. Rachel Maddow is “worth” $25 million a year because that’s what a willing buyer is willing to pay her. With any luck, that buyer will go out of business, but you pay your money and take your chances. As Gordon Gekko memorably said, a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place! Someone must think that the likes of Joy Reid is worth the money–the fact that I don’t isn’t relevant. As long as they’re using their own money, they should go for it.
Why are their ratings tanking after the election? Presumably, the only people watching those noxious networks hated Trump, and they still do, as do those noxious networks.
Are their watchers just too depressed after cutting off their hair and giving up sex to tune into Joy and Madcow?
So before the election all the MSNBC hosts cherry picked the polls and told their viewers it was very close and Trump will most likely lose. Then when he won and they found out that nearly every other network had predicted it they decided to watch the networks that were slightly more honest about it.
OK – let me get this straight
Maddow, earning $30,000,000 takes a 16+% pay cut is trying to negotiate with a $3,000,000 (1/10th or 10% of Madow’s pay) and another earning about $2,000,000 (a 6+% of Maddow’s pay)?
Really???? If Maddow wants to help these two maybe she could give them an interest free loan of say, $5,000,000 each and never collect.
Spare me.
Better yet, if Maddox believes in “equity”, she should share her pay to bring the others (ALL MSNBC hosts) to the same salary.

They pay her to spout nonsense to those who would believe it. None of them are there to make money for the network, IMHO. My guess is that income from commercials is only there as a distraction from the likelihood that 90% of their operating budget comes from donations for the cause. Think of them as being as legit as a “book deal” They are paid to say things that the dem base can then refer to as a fact because it were on TV.. That, I believe, is their job. As JR Ewing put it, “once you lose your integrity, the rest is simple.” If they are getting pay cuts, it is a reflection that they are not carrying their weight in the indoctrination game. They are given their marching orders. They don’t need to be smart as long as they are consistent.
