Gov. Gavin Newsom Wants $25 Million from CA Taxpayers to Engage in Lawfare against Trump

There are already many Newsom-created failures and controversies, and targeting Trump in an expensive #Resistance campaign will add to an expansive list.

As the 2024 presidential race fades from memory, potential candidates for 2028 plot their course.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is high on the list of potential candidates now, but he is term-limited out of office in 2026. Therefore, he is acting to ensure his relevance by being a General in the War Against Trump.

And he wants $25 million dollars from the state’s coffers to fund it.

California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday announced he is seeking up to $25 million in additional funding for legal fights with the incoming administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

The announcement came on the first day of a special session of the California legislature dedicated to preparing the liberal state for the second term of conservative Trump. If approved by the legislature, the California Department of Justice and state agencies would get the extra funding for court battles in areas such as reproductive rights, environmental protection and immigration.

“The new litigation fund will help safeguard critical funding for disaster relief, health care, and other vital services that millions of Californians depend on daily”, the governor wrote in the proposal. He added the state plans to “defend against unlawful federal actions that could jeopardize not only tangible resources and the state’s economy” as well as protection of reproductive health care and civil rights.

The fights could also force the federal government to pay needed funding, Newsom said in a statement, citing successful legal skirmishes with the federal government during the first Trump administration.

While this approach may appeal to Trump-hating progressives, many wish to Newsom-proof the state at this point.

There are already many Newsom-created failures and controversies, and targeting Trump in an expensive #Resistance campaign will add to an expansive list that includes:

  • Homelessness Crisis: Despite spending over $20 billion, California’s homeless population has increased by 31.6% from 2007 to 2022, while it decreased nationally by 10%.
  • Crime Wave: Newsom’s policies, including early release of felons and prison closures, have contributed to a significant increase in crime across California.
  • Education Failures: Two-thirds of California students failed to meet Math standards, and more than half did not meet English standards.
  • Business Exodus: Businesses are leaving California at twice the rate of previous years, taking jobs and revenue with them.
  • EDD Fraud: The Employment Development Department sent out $33 billion in fraudulent unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • French Laundry Scandal: Newsom attended a dinner at an expensive restaurant during COVID-19 restrictions, violating his own guidelines.
  • Wildfire Prevention Overstatement: Newsom exaggerated the number of acres treated for wildfire prevention by 690%..

While $25 million may seem like chump change to a state that has squandered billions, the expenditure will be another “L” in the column as 2028 heats up, given California’s current budget deficit problems.

Last month, California’s Legislative Analyst’s Office, or LAO, which is the nonpartisan state department that advises California’s policymakers on the state’s fiscal issues, increased their estimate for the state’s 2024–25 budget deficit to $73 billion. This estimate substantially exceeds Gavin Newsom’s estimate of a $38 billion deficit. Both estimates stand in sharp contrast to the state’s $100 billion surplus from two years earlier.

One last point: Newsom assumes the media conditions are the same as during Trump’s first term. They are not.

Between “X” and podcasts such as Joe Rogan, the Trump team has a broader array of venues to get their messages out and undermine Newsom’s #Resistance movement this time around. The “L’s” could get a lot bigger for Newsom in the wake of critical media attention and losses in court.

As I have said, the smart play may be to act as a “centrist” in the next election cycle. But Newsom clearly has more beauty than brains.

Should have added in he just bought a new home for $10 million. If it’s so important he could stayed in his old house and donated that $10 million to the Fight Trump Fund.

Reject

What good is 25 million against Trump? Kamala had over a billion and ended up another day older and deeper in debt.

California voted for this advocacy for illegality. Yes, yes, many did not, but not enough. The voters are the problem.

The five Bay Area counties, Sacramento County, and the SoCal coast are the problem. The central valley voters, the voters in the Sierras are not the problem, and anyone north of wine country are not the problem.

The solution is at least two states. West California for the Newsome types, and California for the conservative state it once was.

The money will be used to pay for flights on chartered jets to DC and back so that he can remind members of the credentialed Media Mafia that he is the true and only heroic leader ot The Trump Resistence (and also to ask them to stop putting an ‘e’ on the end of his name).

Gavin Newsom’s $3.7m estate was gifted to him in 2019; 3 months later he got a $2.7m tax free cash-out. Who paid the original $3.7 million on Newsom’s Fair Oaks home?

Newly formed […] MHBD Farms LLC purchased the Kentfield home from Daniel Pritzker, cousin of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker […] Newsom has additional laws that pertain to his finances and transparency because he’s the governor.”

“While the reported sale price is $9.1 million, it was listed at $9.5M on 9/10/24. Then 15 days before this sale closed the price changed to $8.5M, but for an ordinary sale they would have already been in escrow”

[…] related to his family living at Kentfield. Since they allegedly don’t own the home […] if they’re not paying rent they have to count the fair market value of the rent as a gift from whoever owns the LLC.

Gift for lawyers and bureaucracy

“Despite spending over $20 billion, California’s homeless population has increased by 31.6% from 2007 to 2022, while it decreased nationally by 10%.”

So now instead of a $73,000,000,000 deficit, CA will have a $73,025,000,000 deficit. Well done Gruesome.

If nothing else, Newsome is amusing.
