Trump Nominates Howard Lutnick for Commerce Secretary
Lutnick became president and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald at the age of 29 in 1991.
President-elect Donald Trump nominated Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, to head the Commerce Department.
“He will lead our Tariff and Trade agenda, with additional direct responsibility for the Office of the United States Trade Representative,” said Trump. “In his role as Co-Chair of the Trump-Vance Transition Team, Howard has created the most sophisticated process and system to assist us in creating the greatest Administration America has ever seen.”
Lutnick joined Cantor Fitzgerald in 1983.
Lutnick, who was 29 at the time, became president and CEO of the investment firm in 1991 and chairman in 1996.
But the CEO has a sad story. It breaks your heart.
Cantor Fitzgerald had offices on the 101-105th floors of the World Trade Center’s North Tower.
On September 11, 2001, Lutnick did not go to work right away because he took his son to his first day of kindergarten.
Lutnick was not at work when the plane hit the building. He attempted to reach the tower to rescue any employees, but the South Tower fell before he made it.
Lutnick survived by hunkering down under a nearby car.
All of the 960 Cantor employees at work died. 658 died that day, including his brother Gary.
Trump added:
Howard and the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund donated $180 Million Dollars to his 9/11 families. He remains deeply committed to philanthropic endeavors, donating more than $100 Million Dollars to victims of terrorism, natural disasters, and other emergencies around the world.
Howard is on the Board of Directors of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and Weill Cornell Medicine. He was named the Financial Times’ Person of the Year in 2001 and Ernst & Young’s United States Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010. Howard also received the Department of the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest honor granted to non-military personnel by the Navy.

Howard Lutnick sounds perfect, I am sure that he appreciates enemies of America should be treated.
Good the nation gets another competent leader and we an establishment favorite is denied an important post.
Trump is doing much better this time than last. He is making some surprising picks but also very solid ones like Lutnick.
