Report: Trump Will Pick Kristi Noem for DHS Secretary
He might make the announcement today.
President-elect Donald Trump supposedly has chosen South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to lead DHS:
The Department of Homeland Security oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
If selected, Noem would work with Tom Homan, who was announced as Trump’s “border czar” on Sunday, and Stephen Miller, who was announced as the White House deputy of staff for policy on Monday.

Weird choice. Noem had a year that was full of unbelievably stupid self-owns, to the point that she became a meme. Not sure what he’s thinking here. His first miss.

Don’t think it’s weird at all. When it comes to security, need someone who’s loyal. I think we’ll see a lot of trade-offs between experience and trust in these appointments.
I like her. She didn’t panic during COVID and destroy her state’s economy like most the Democrats did. She understood that the Bureaucrats were ‘lying to look like they were doing something’ when there was, actually, nothing they could do since containment was lost months before we understood what was going on.
FWIW, I lived through the 1968 Hong Kong Flu which was almost as deadly and we didn’t panic, live in bunkers and shut the country down. Our parents went to work, we went to school and life went on.
That’s a good point about her response to Covid. DHS is gigantic job but with Homan walking point on border security and interior enforcement the scope of the day to day mission set shrinks a bit. She’s been a successful Gov so has experience dealing with bureaucracy especially since so much of SD Gov time is spent wrangling federal bureaucracy.

Either Trump is trolling or these reports are generated inside the intelligence agencies and floated in an attempt to promote Noem to that position.
Ditto for Rubio at State, Patel at CIA and Waltz at NSA. The bureaucratic state agencies would love nothing more.
The Rubio and Waltz pics seem to be done-deals. With respect to this ‘report,’ I’m not sure what to believe. If it’s true, it’s very troubling to me that the story was first reported by Kaitlin Collins at CNN and not one of the more typical Trump-friendly outlets or personalies. That would mean someone very high in Trump’s inner-circle is leaking to CNN or (more likely, IMO) the ‘leak’ was delivered to CNN by Noem herself. Either one is not good sign.

The better place to relocate DHS is the dumpster. It’s an abomination that was created in a misguided, knee-jerk reaction to 9/11. Almost a quarter-century later, the root cause of that horrific event, which was incompetent enforcement of our immigration policies, is arguably even more dysfunctional than it was pre-9/11 and pre-DHS. The agency employees 250K and we’ve seen through the last 4-years, many of them are wholly incompetent

The DHS is the home of Secret Service. Trump’s objective here is to have someone at its head he can trust with his life. Noem is a supporter, who also kept her state open during the covid inanity. Solid pick, if it turns out to be true.

I am in agreement with others that this seems to be a little (or a lot) weird.
Be nice to have someone with at least some experience in security issues, besides shooting your dog (various Feds seem to know all about that already).
