Report: CIA Official Arrested For Leaking U.S. Intel on Israeli Retaliatory Strike to Iranians

NYT: The charged CIA staffer had “top secret security clearance.”

A senior CIA official with top security clearance has been charged with the recent leak of highly classified documents on Israeli war plans to the Iranians, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

A Guam-based CIA staffer named Asif W. Rahman was arrested after the Israeli plan for a counter-strike on Iran was passed on to Iranian-linked social media accounts. The leaked documents revealed detailed U.S. intelligence on Israeli military preparations in the run-up to a possible Israeli retaliation to a major Iranian aerial attack in early October.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was forced to delay its military response after the U.S. intellegence breach, The Times of London reported on October 20.

The NYT reported the arrest of a CIA official:

A C.I.A. official has been charged with disclosing classified documents that appeared to show Israel’s plans to retaliate against Iran for a missile attack earlier this year, according to court documents and people familiar with the matter.

The official, Asif W. Rahman, was indicted last week in federal court in Virginia with two counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information. He was arrested by the F.B.I. on Tuesday in Cambodia and brought to federal court in Guam to face charges. (…)

U.S. officials have previously said that they did not know from where the documents had been taken, and that they were looking for the original source of the leak.

Court documents said Mr. Rahman held a top secret security clearance with access to sensitive compartmentalized information, which is typical for many C.I.A. employees who handle classified materials.

The leaked documents, belonging to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which is responsible for assessing information collected by U.S. spy satellites, contained highly detailed intelligence on Israeli Air Force drills and weapons placement ahead of a potential counter-strike on Iran.

The U.S. intelligence documents leaked to Iranians revealed the “measures that have been carried out in recent days at several Israeli Air Force bases, including the transfer of advanced munitions which, according to the report, were intended for an attack on Iran,” the news website Axios noted October 19.

The classified document claimed that “the Israeli Air Force conducted a large exercise this week involving intelligence planes and likely fighter jets trained for a possible attack against Iran,” the U.S. news outlet added.

The intelligence leak came to light as President Joe Biden was trying to press Israel into limiting the scope of its planned counter-strike. The IDF, in late October, carried out a retaliatory airstrike against Iranian military targets, derailing the regime’s drone and missile programs, as well as blowing away the Russian-made air defense cover — paving the way for any future Israeli strike.

Trump has a lot of work to do cleaning house. Obama started the intense weaponization of the intelligence agencies and it escalated through Biden. The entire leadership should be fired and investigated on day 1. All security clearances held by former government employees should immediately recinded.

Asif W. Rahman. Asif W. Rahman. I’m shocked.

The CIA seems to have a serious problem with internal OpSec. He did this in Guam, far away from Israel and the ME. He had no Need to Know. All of this kind of intel should be compartmentalized such that only those collecting and processing it and using it have access. This is what Snowden did – he gained access to huge amounts of info he had no legitimate reason to have access to. FFS. Or it was released intentionally and he was the patsy.

One thing that Snowden, the transgender kid and the young man sentenced just yesterday should have capably demonstrated to the government is the network security controls they’ve placed on computer access of SAP intelligence is woefully inadequate. Can’t really get into it too much. But, much of the problem is rooted in administrator privilege accounts. All the people I’ve mentioned had administrator access of varying degrees. While we’ll likely never find out if that was the case here, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it was.

He actually did this in Cambodia. He was likely stationed in Cambodia. (He was only brought to Guam as the nearest US court.)

These things are supposed to be compartmentalized. And need-to-know being very strict. But if you’re an IT guy, or working on a technical program, your need-to-know can get pretty broad pretty fast.

So the Iranians knew it was coming and still couldn’t stop the Jews! 😂 Surprised they didn’t have their F14’s up in the air on patrol at the time…although is that because they are no longer air worthy?

They probably bought J35 fighters from China with a pallet of cash.

They publicly announced that the damn Americans had spilled the beans and now they had to cancel the attack and regroup, then hit Iran the next day anyway, Surprise!

Asif W. Rahman?

Well, knock me over with a feather. Those darned Amish have struck again!

Now, allow me to be a conspiracy theorist for a moment to suggest that perhaps an investigation into Mr. Rahman’s finances might reveal an unusual and unexpected income stream

I had $20 on Billy Bob doing it. I hate not being able to profile.

Yeah, somehow I wasn’t shocked either.

I first saw “Asif” and thought hmm, that could easily be Israeli. But not when I saw “Rahman”. I can’t think of a reason why a Jewish family couldn’t have that surname, but I’ve never heard of one that does.

A Guam-based CIA staffer named Asif W. Rahman
But he was charged in Virginia, It seems he was only brought to Guam to be arraigned because Guam is the closest US territory to Cambodia. Based on reading between the lines in the NY Post story (I’m not clicking a NYT link), I’m betting he was assigned to the embassy in Cambodia. And not based in Guam.

Yeah, I don’t know where Mr Unial got “Guam-based”. It’s not in any of the pages he linked to.

Just hand him over to the Israeli’s in an “apology swap.”

They’ll know what to do with him, and will extract plenty of good intel in the process.

What are the penalties for these crimes he’s charged with? Seems like the sort of thing where a death penalty might be in play, and these charges won’t get close to that.

Hopefully this won’t get settled by the time Trump’s DOJ takes over, and then if possible more charges can be added.

A Muslim “DEI” hire, of course. CIA/DoD/FBI are likely crawling with myriad of his ilk, both Muslim, and, non-Muslim, Dhimmi-crat fellow travelers. All Israel-hating and all sympathetic to Islamofascists and Muslim terrorists who comprise the “Resistance.”

A TS/SCI clearance must a lot easier to get now.
