For crying out loud!
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, announced his office will investigate former President Donald Trump’s comments about Liz Cheney.
“I have already asked my criminal division chief to start looking at that statement, analyzing it for whether it qualifies as a death threat under Arizona’s laws,” Mayes said on Friday.
Trump literally called out Lizzy and her family for being war hawks. As I said earlier, the Cheneys love war. It makes them and their buddies rich.
I just cannot.
KPNX reporter Brahm Resnik told MSNBC:
I just spoke to Attorney General Kris Mayes about 2 hours ago for the taping of my Sunday show. She told me she just gotten off the phone with her criminal division chief, and she was investigating whether what Donald Trump said about Liz Cheney constituted a death threat under Arizona law. I’ll tell you, under Arizona law, it is illegal to make threats or intimidate someone…can be charged as a class one misdemeanor, class six felony. Kris Mayes told me they’re looking into it. I asked her whether this is just political speech, free speech, she said, we’re checking to see if across that line. But she also put it in the larger perspective. If you’re here right now, you begin to understand how this place is ready for a high security event on Tuesday, an election. Our sheriff’s office is talking about a no tolerance policy for protests. Kris Mayes is activating all her agents. Every law enforcement agency in the state is involved with protecting the vote, protecting voters. So Kris Mayes brought that into the conversation that for Donald Trump to make these kinds of remarks at this time. Such a really fraught and tense moment. Here in Maricopa County is just bad.
Infuriating.
Of course the media has been parroting the clipped remarks.
“She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”
Trump called Cheney “a deranged person” and added, “But the reason she couldn’t stand me is that she always wanted to go to war with people. If it were up to her we’d be in 50 different countries.”The former president continued: “She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with the rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. OK, let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.“You know they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, oh gee, well, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy,” Trump said.
