Wesleyan University President Calls Trump a ‘Threat to Higher Education’

“As one of the most consequential elections in American history approaches, we must do everything we can to help students work on campaigns and facilitate voting”

He says this as if it’s a bad thing. Trump should take a wrecking ball to higher education.

The College Fix reports:

‘We must not be neutral’: Wesleyan president slams Trump as ‘threat to higher ed’

Wesleyan University President Michael Roth calls Trump a “threat to higher education” and urges schools to avoid being “neutral” this election season in a new op-ed.

Many universities have recently embraced “institutional neutrality,” but “this is exactly the wrong time for such a retreat,” Roth states in an op-ed Wednesday.

“As one of the most consequential elections in American history approaches, we must do everything we can to help students work on campaigns and facilitate voting,” he states.

Roth urges academic leaders to oppose the Trump campaign, stating:

Although academic leaders usually stay neutral about a candidate’s political statements, today’s campaign rhetoric is not politics as usual. The threats to higher education made by former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance are not subtle.

Although for decades schools have interacted well with Republican and Democratic representatives, the brazen VP candidate has declared that “universities are the enemy.” The Trump agenda promises to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion departments and to punish those schools who do not live up to a right-wing version of civil rights standards.

Trump has promised to close down the Department of Education and fire the accreditors who now certify which schools are eligible for governmental support…We must not be neutral about this.

Roth also urges “institutional leaders” to condemn the “mass deportation the Republican nominees threaten,” as “schools have made a place for Dreamers.”

He further calls on educators to “give up the popular pastime of criticizing the woke and call out instead the overt racism that has rippled through the Trump campaign over the past few months.”

What a pathetic display.

Ten years from now:

Any American teen who goes abroad and becomes fluent in almost any foreign language

will be doing better than any American teen who spends 4 years at this self-aggrandizing fossil.

The era of places like Wesleyan has come and gone.

You and your family want to live in denial ? Go ahead.

That is the threat, No more scholarships, loans or Pell grant funding for Affirmative-DEI classes. Bring cost of higher education down by closing all non academic (DEI) departments. Get rid of highly paid administration. Make Academia Great Again. Clean house.

Anyone who doesn’t forgive student loans is a threat to higher education.

John Wesley is spinning in his grave. The Methodists had a nice run. It’s over.

So anyone who doesn’t support Far Left indoctrination of the next generation is a threat to higher education and must be opposed?

Ever consider there’s a reason folk oppose such higher education?

Nah, must just be bad people (/sarc!)

A threat to higher education?” The President of Wesleyan can give not higher recommendation to a Presidential candidate. What’s wrong with being a threat to a morally and intellectually bankrupt corrupt industry filled with mediocre careerist with little to offer their students? Higher education has become and organized grift betrayed its own ideals and students. It needs to be threatened if we ever hope to see it fulfill its obligations. Indeed, it would be unethical not to threaten the self-aggrandizing, feckless dweebs claiming to be scholars and teachers while destroying their students minds and futures..

According to CollegeScorecard.Ed.Gov,

Wesleyan accepts less than 1 in 5 who apply..

Total enrollment is ~3000 students, so it’s the size of a large high school.

And these are bright kids, no question. Not the brightest, but bright.

In order to graduate, it costs about $300,000. (You can buy a lovely house for $300,000)

Less than 1 in 4 take out federal student loans.

So these are not just bright kids, they are kids from wealthy families.

And they like it there – 90% return after freshman year.

The top majors are Economics, Psychology, and Political Science. And English. English Literature.

Of those who do take out loans, ~10% are NOT paying them back (not “making progress.”) How can 10% of those provided an elite education be unable to repay their loan? Idk

So — basically Wesleyan is a protected enclave for bright suburban teens most of whom were prolly rejected by the Ivy League.

And how do they spend their four years? They major in fields that anyone could master at a fraction of the cost … by listening to audiobooks, by reading in bed, by watching lectures on YouTube or other widely available free or low-cost internet sites.

Is this rational?
Is this not madness?
How can a society survive this indefinitely?

These “institutions of higher learning” in America have been peddling a Group Masturbatory Experience and calling it higher education.

The gig is up.

If you or your family want to persist in the belief that these emperors are wearing beautiful new clothes, you go ahead.

The rest of us do not want to pay for it.

Hey Mr President of Wesleyan: Learn a real skill. Get a real job.

Roth was installed as Wes prez shortly before Obama’s first campaign. He promoted him openly while engaging in his trademark straddling on campus free speech issues. He seems to find that justifies his open partisanship in his official role. This campus was the setting for the comedy film “PCU” in the 80’s; it has continued to veer away from its classical liberal heritage. (Class of ‘73).,

All taxpayer funds need to be removed from the institutions of “higher leaning”. Let the employees of such endeavors compete for the students via actual verifiable results of their product. Such as success rates of their graduates. Yeah, right.

I guess Mr. Roth doesn’t realize he gave us another reason to vote for Trump
