President Joe Biden has said he wants to campaign for VP Kamala Harris.
Well, some sources told Axios the campaign has responded, “We’ll get back to you.”
I usually take anonymous sources with a grain of salt, but…we haven’t seen Biden with Harris.
We’ve barely seen Biden since the Democrats kicked him to the curb.
I guess Biden is a liability:
Why it matters: Harris’ team believes Biden is a political liability at a crucial time in the campaign — but is reluctant to directly say they don’t want him to campaign for her.
- It’s the latest example of Democrats, and even some of Biden’s staff, tiptoeing around the 81-year-old president’s ego and feelings.
- One person familiar with the situation compared it to a slow-moving break-up: Harris’ team and allies respect Biden’s service, but are wary of further tying Harris to the unpopular president on the campaign trail.
- Biden’s approval rating is 39%, according to FiveThirtyEight‘s average.
- “He’s a reminder of the last four years, not the new way forward,” said another person familiar with the situation, in a nod to Harris’ campaign slogan.
Biden’s team has cleared his schedule on certain days to campaign for Harris, but the team never takes up the offer.
Harris’s schedule does not have Biden with her between now and Election Day.
Biden’s team considers him valuable since he “outperformed Hillary Clinton’s 2016 numbers with” some of the voters in the Rust Belt, including Pennsylvania.
It’s a good idea for Harris to stay away from Biden since she is literally part of his administration.
Then again, does that mean Harris and her team knows us normies are not better off than we were four years ago?
Biden has called Harris an integral part of his administration. Harris even said she’s been “a part of most of the decisions that have had an impact.”
Harris told The View that “nothing comes to mind” when it comes to doing anything differently from Biden.
When Stephen Colbert asked her the same question, Harris gave him one of her infamous word salads.
It seems like Harris wants to have her cake and eat it, too. She helped make decisions, but totes obvious not the ones that have a negative impact on people.
