Kamala Harris’s Embrace of Liz Cheney May be Hurting Her With Progressives

Kamala Harris’s Embrace of Liz Cheney May be Hurting Her With Progressives

“Joseph Geevarghese, the executive director of the progressive group Our Revolution, told the AP that 10% of progressives might not vote for Harris and warned some might vote for Trump.”

One of the most amazing aspects of the 2024 election has been watching Democrats embrace and campaign with Liz Cheney, not to mention their boasts about the endorsement of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Apparently, there are some people on the progressive left who are not happy about this and it could be hurting Harris.

FOX News reports:

Progressives upset Kamala Harris is campaigning with Liz Cheney: Report

Some progressive Democrats are upset with Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to lean on Liz Cheney in the weeks ahead of the election, suggesting the vice president should focus more on her Democratic base.

“The truth of the matter is that there are a hell of a lot more working-class people who could vote for Kamala Harris than there are conservative Republicans,” Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT., told the Associated Press.

Cheney, an anti-Trump Republican, has appeared on the campaign trail with Harris several times. Other progressive leaders, such as Sanders or Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have been “relegated to low-profile roles,” according to the AP.

“She has to start talking more to the needs of working-class people,” Sanders told the AP. “I wish this had taken place two months ago. It is what it is.”…

Joseph Geevarghese, the executive director of the progressive group Our Revolution, told the AP that 10% of progressives might not vote for Harris and warned some might vote for Trump.

“We just want to raise a red flag. Don’t take the progressive movement for granted,” Geevarghese said. “There’s got to be an economic argument at the end of the day. That’s the No. 1 thing that matters to voters.”

Progressive hero Jon Stewart actually brought up this issue during a recent conversation with Kamala’s running mate Tim Walz. Watch:

Trump is capitalizing on this, naturally.

The Hill reports:

Trump lashes out at Cheney, calls her a ‘Muslim-hating warmonger’

Former President Trump lashed out at prominent critic former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), calling her a “Muslim-hating warmonger” during a campaign event in Michigan on Saturday.

“Kamala is campaigning with Muslim-hating warmonger, Liz Cheney, who wants to invade practically every Muslim country on the planet. And let me tell you the Muslims of our country, they see it, and they know it,” Trump said at a rally in Novi, Mich.

“Her father was responsible for invading the Middle East, killing millions of Arabs – millions – and this is the one that Kamala is campaigning with,” he continued, referring to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Here’s the clip:

It’s unclear how Democrats think any of this helps Harris.

You’d have to have the brains of a thanksgiving turkey (that’s pretty stupid, folks) to think that bringing aboard a woman who lost her *primary* by 30 points would help you appeal to undecided voters.

Harris has to be the most inept candidate for president ever. Let’s just make sure she never gets the chance to show us what a lousy president she’d be.

    Is it?

I suggest that it’s the opposite.

Whereas Cheney has no support within rank & file R’s (thus her removal from office) Kennedy had a small but loyal following in his bid for president. Those voters have been invited quite warmly into the Trump tent. Other Democrats see what Kennedy and Gabbard are doing (which is moving the Overton Window rightward), together with the dismal (and that’s being generous) performance by the woman selected by one, voted by none and you gave a decent chance of a huge landslide victory come a week from Tuesday.

Which is what I predict will happen.

      It’s a fractious coalition.

That gets us across the finish line in first place. And since Trump is now a single-termer by default, all of them will be knifing one another in anticipation of the 2028 primary season. But the first two years will be off the charts fun watching as they dismantle the administrative state.

The “knifing” may not be a bad thing, as the old GoP is now a dead man walking.

Exactly correct about Cheney’s ‘base.’ I’m not sure who do they think she appeals to?

Slightly off topic, but I wonder who Jimmy Carter actually voted for?

Liz Cheney is a toxic traitor who belongs in prison with the rest of the illegitimate Jan 6 committee and all the scum who built it and worked for it.

Dick Cheney is just a real disappointment. He was a great man and he was a sober figure in foreign policy. It was not Dick Cheney’s idea to muck up the post-Iraq War situation – that was all Bush’s fault and his idiocy in listening to real morons like Condi Rice and Colon Powell – people who know absolutely NOTHING about anything.

I disagree with what Trump said about Dick Cheney’s record … but it’s a campaign so all’s fair. Liz Cheney is beneath pond scum and deserves to arrested and charged with a whole litany of serious criminal offenses, both at the federal and state levels. It’s a shame her father let himself be dragged into hell by her. Sad. But … he’s an adult and he chose this, so the stain is on him, too.

Frankly, Liz Cheney fits in perfectly with Komrade Kamala. They are made for each other. I’d donate money to keep Liz Cheney on the Kamala campaign trail.

For a party so enamored with their Hollywood enablers, they still can’t grasp the concept that in the unlikely event you do turn Darth Vader into a good guy, it’s mandatory that he die almost immediately after his redemption. If you don’t do that, you’re guaranteed to lose all credibility with your audience.

Democratic Socialists of America use Jacobin .com as a place to air their grievances – and it has a 10 Oct 2024 Cheney piece up.

This year, the Democrats have been making great hay of Green Party candidate Jill Stein being endorsed by David Duke […] Somehow, though, Harris and her surrogates can justify bragging about the support of one of the most consequentially vile war criminals [Cheney] of the twentieth century.

Harris’s rehabilitation of Dick Cheney’s reputation is an obscenity.

It’s not about undecideds. The Dems must figure there’s a pool of anti-Trumpers to be tapped as potential Harris voters. “See, we have a rabid anti-Trumper on our side! A vote for Harris is an anti-Trump vote! Liz Cheney agrees!”

They must also reckon the anti-Trump Republicans they can bring to their side outnumber the loss of Dems who hate people from the old guard Republican establishment. Good luck with that, but this seems to be the gambit.

Even d/prog know they only get the net after subtracting the votes lost….which seems to suggest they view the ‘progressive’ vote as already gone. IMO I don’t think there is as much difference as there is overlap between many Bernie Bros and MAGA voters on economic issues and this election is mostly about economics.

The most inept campaign in the history of the country.
Appealing to the most inept bloc of voters in the history of the country.
Any showing of more than 10% for this inept hairbrain makes you begin to understand why “cleansing” is such an attractive concept to political leaders of desperate nations.

Politics makes strange bedfellows……

Liz and Kamala
Liz and Hillary
Liz and Big Mike

On second thought try and erase that from your memory.
