Israel Launches Retaliatory Counterstrike On Iran

Multiple reports indicate that Israel has launched strikes on Iran in retaliation for the Iranian ballistic missile attack a month ago. The timing and extent of the counterstrike has been the subject of intense speculation.

CAUTION – As in all these situations, initial reports can be wrong, sometime intentionally. There is a long history on the internet of images and video from other conflicts being posted. We will try to rely and post sources who usually are reliable. If it turns out that an image/video/report is fake, we will remove it.

The IDF Spokesman has confirmed:

In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel—right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran. The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th—on seven fronts—including direct attacks from Iranian soil. Like every other sovereign country in the world, the State of Israel has the right and the duty to respond. Our defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized. We will do whatever necessary to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel.

ANALYSIS – As of this writing, 8:30 p.m Easten, it appears that the strike was limited, but that could change, particularly if Iran fires more ballistic missiles. The Israelis (I think Netanyahu, not sure) have been saying that the fight with Iran could go on for a while, so this may just be the opening salvo limited under Biden/Harris pressure, with the bigger attack coming once Iran responds. Just a thought.
