Virginia Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears Files Paperwork to Run for Governor in 2025

Earle-Sears will hold a rally this evening.

Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears has become the first Republican to file paperwork to run for governor in 2025.

The Virginia Department of Elections accepted the paperwork on September 4.

Earle-Sears will hold a rally this evening.

Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger launched her campaign in November. She is the only one for the party.

In 2021, Republicans won the top statewide offices. Earle-Sears won by 50,000 votes, Glen Youngkin won the gubernatorial race by 60,000, and Jason Miyares won the attorney general race by 26,000.

Virginia only allows the governor and lieutenant governor must step aside after one term “or run for a different position.”

Earle-Sears made history with her position as the “first woman of color, and only the second woman, to hold statewide office in the commonwealth.”

Earle-Sears is also the first woman to hold the lieutenant governor position.

I would have been ecstatic to see Trump choose her as his VP, until I learned she’s not eligible (immigrant).

I felt the same, regarding a VP slot that couldn’t be hers, by dint of her Jamaican birthplace.

I love Sears. She is formidable. A passionate conservative. One of the GOP’s brightest stars.

Her motivation for tossing entering politics was basically bemoaning another inevitable loss by the Virginia GOP, due to a lackluster candidate slate, and deciding to get into the ring, herself. Shades of Mark Robinson’s turn from frustrated citizen to successful politician.

I hope she won’t be a Big Do-Nothing like the current spineless governor.

Can’t wait to vote for her next November, a business owner and licensed electrician, pro-life and Second Amendment, a U.S. Marine before becoming a U.S. citizen.

How are the Democrats going to counter a black female immigrant?

from what I know about her

Good on her. Unless Superman or Jesus Christ comes along, I’m going to be voting for her (like I did before).

I should check the Fairfax County rolls and see if I’m still registered to vote there. After all, I have a constitutional right to cast my vote before the Democrats do!

She is great. If I were a Virginia voter I would vote for her, and volunteer for her campaign. I know Miyares (the AG) is likely to run, and he is more a Trump supporter than Winsome Sears, but I don’t care. She is great and everyone should get behind her, in my opinion.

Any Virginian who votes democrat in the 2025 governors election is a racist.

So, does Trump, if elected, at some point consider Youngkin for a post in his Administration or do they run Youngkin against Mark Warner in 2026 to capture his Senate seat?
