San Francisco Auditing 98 Monuments to Remove Those Deemed ‘Racist or Sexist’

Legal Insurrection readers may recall that the last time I reported on the Bay Area, thieves in Oakland had just stolen the “Jaws of Life” from responding firefighters.

With this in mind, you would think that regional officials might put forth enhanced efforts in crime prevention.

But this is San Francisco we are talking about . . . so woke nonsense is the priority.

A commission has been organized and funded by a progressive group to the tune of $3 million to determine which statues and monuments in the area should be removed because they don’t measure up to social justice standards.

At a meeting last week, Angela Carrier, the senior project manager at the San Francisco Arts Commission, said at a meeting that some of the city’s monuments “no longer represent the values we say the city stands for.”She added that the overall collection of the 98 city statues and monuments represent “a concentration of power, privilege, white supremacy, patriarchy, and colonialism.”Last year, the San Francisco Monuments and Memorials Advisory Committee issued a report recommending an audit. The audit will be conducted by HR&A Advisors, an independent real estate and economic development firm. The city won’t have to fund the $3 million price tag. That’s being paid for by the Mellon Foundation. The firm plans to hold three public meetings in October and is expected to make final recommendations by next January.

The entire list contains Presidents (e.g., George Washington, William McKinley, Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield), American heroes (Benjamin Franklin, Francis Scott Key, Doughbough, Gen. John Pershing), cultural icons (Leonardo da Vinci, William Shakespeare), famous Californians (Dianne Feinstein, Gavin Newsom) and Catholic saints (St. Francis).

It’s going to be interesting when those statues of St. Francis go down. Will a city name change be next? I will suggest Wokistan if that is the case.

Meanwhile, in the world of normal people, many are unhappy.

Meanwhile, progressive polices in San Francisco have fueled the drug crisis and continued crime in the Democratic-run city.

Criminal defense attorney Brian Claypool, who is the owner and managing partner of the Claypool Law Firm, told Fox News Digital that San Francisco is a “train wreck” because of Democratic leadership that has spanned the last decade.”San Francisco is a train wreck because of a combination of a couple of things; the left wing, radical Democratic leadership over the past 10 years,” he said. “You have mayors who are very liberal, prosecutors who don’t prosecute offenders and the no-bail system.””[In California] we now have very lenient laws as it relates to prosecuting homeless people and drug dealers,” he said.

And the area’s businesses continue to be targeted by criminals.

Kevin Lieu, owner of Gai Chicken and Rice, said he is an expert in glass prices because of how many times his establishment’s windows have been shattered. The most recent robbery, he said, will cost him a few thousand dollars.”In no way did I ever think I would be an expert in the quality of glass, how many protective layers there are,” he said. “These are things I had to learn through unfortunate events.”In a surveillance video, someone breaks into Gai Chicken and Rice in the city’s Castro neighborhood before looking around. The person stays in Lieu’s establishment for 25 seconds before leaving. In addition to the four break-ins, Lieu said his establishment had been damaged four other times.

Upon reflection, perhaps William Shakespeare, George Washington, and St. Francis would be happy to no longer be associated with the Sewer by the Bay and would be happy to see their images removed.

San Francisco should allow other cities to claim these monuments. After all, many of the new residents hail from the Bay Ara and might enjoy seeing the statues again in their new homes in other states.
