Girls Field Hockey Team at High School in MA Refuses to Play Team With Male Player
“there are times where we have to place a higher value on safety than on victory”
If girls want to turn this issue around, this is the way to do it. Much more of this.
The College Fix reports:
HS girls field hockey team refuses to play opponent with male player
The girls field hockey team at a Massachusetts high school has forfeited a game against a rival due to the participation of a biological male on its team.
Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School noted it will not play Somerset-Berkely Regional HS in a match slated for September 17, opting to choose “safety over playing,” according to the Fall River Reporter.
Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Bill Runey said in a statement “there are times where we have to place a higher value on safety than on victory.”
Runey added that the team realizes forfeiting may affect “chances for a league championship and possibly playoff eligibility,” but hopes “other schools consider following suit to achieve safety and promote fair competition for female athletes.”
The Sun Chronicle reports the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School Committee unanimously agreed in June to let coaches and students to back out of competing against teams with “athletes of the opposite sex.”
Committee Chair Christopher Andrade said in an email that no student athlete would be disciplined for refusing to participate in such a situation.
Andrade criticized the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for insufficiently protecting girls in sports where boys are allowed to play.
After a (female) field hockey player from Dighton-Rehoboth HS was “severely injured” in a playoff match by a male competitor from Swampscott High School a year ago, Superintendent Runey reached out to MIAA Assistant Director Sherry Bryant about needed changes to its policy, according to the Chronicle report.
Bryant told him the association’s “hands were tied because of lawsuits.”

In before a judge rules to compel the girls play the game.
I’d like to see how a judge “compels” girls, especially minors, into playing a sport. They could just quit if it comes to that.
I would love for them to do that
FORCED LABOR
It’s not mentioned in this article but the girl had significant facial injuries, lost teeth and had to be hospitalized after being hit by the male player. Those teeth will never grow back and who knows how much plastic surgery she will need, all because some guy wants to win trophies playing on a girl’s team.
I applaud those girls. Now, all school teams need to follow Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School’s example.
I went to Dighton-Rehoboth’s Facebook page to see if they had booster T-shirts for sale, but apparently only in person at their school store. (There are a lot of merchants out there that will print one for you with the school’s logo on it, but the school might see 2¢ if anything.)
Coincidentally, I was wearing my tee shirt today from Mid-Vermont Christian School. who did this last year and was banned from their state league. It’s important to show these pioneers that they have support from the people.
It’s a sad shame to see a team take the ‘L’ in order to win.
Why should hard working females sacrifice a chance at the ‘W’ because a law allowed a male to compete on a female team?
Kudos to Dighton-Rehoboth for their policy of not competing against a male infested female team.
Not the best answer but a great answer to the challenge.
If every female athlete refused it would force this issue to REALITY.
On the bright side, team loads of players and their parents and siblings are getting just a bit more conservative in outlook.
saw a meme the other day stating
girls sports are not an backup option for mediocre male athletes.
they are now
The male bully should be criminally charged with mayhem, the crime of mutilating someone else’s body.
-Doxx that male bully so people know who to shun and express their outrage.
