I am mad that people clipped Kentucky Gov. Any Beshear’s comments on Morning Joe.
1) He said Vance should “go through” the trauma of having a family member getting pregnant by rape.
2) Then Beshear claims the raped woman has no options if she’s denied an abortion.
3) The host and Beshear LIED about Vance’s 2021 comments.
What a sick and cruel man.
Vance responded: “After speaking on the DNC main stage last night, Harris campaign surrogate Governor Andy Beshear went on national television this morning and explicitly called for a member of Senator Vance’s family to be raped. His comments are disgusting, vile, and should not be tolerated in American politics. We call on Kamala Harris to immediately repudiate Governor Beshear’s comments and demonstrate that regardless of partisan disagreements, this kind of violent rhetoric has no place in our public discourse.” – William Martin, Vance Communications Director.
I found the whole video. Yes, the Vance comments are horrendous. Saying abortion is the only option is just as bad (emphasis mine):
HOST: You have Republican candidates talking about babies being aborted at 9 months. Can you even make sense of their argument because half of it’s not even trueBESHEAR: It’s just fear tactics and it’s just lying to people. I mean, think about what some people have had to go through because of these laws. I mean, JD Vance calls pregnancy resulting from rape inconvenient. I mean, inconvenience is traffic. I mean, it is…make him go through this. I mean, it is someone being violated. Someone being harmed and then telling them that they don’t have options after that. That fails any test of decency of humanity. But here’s the thing. It also shows that they don’t have any empathy at all. In a president and vice president has to have empathy. You gotta be able to put yourself in a position you’ve never been in to try to understand somebody else because you’ve gotta be a president and a vice president for all of America. Not just from where you’re from. Not just for your friend group but for all of America. That’s why Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are the right ticke. They’re the right people. I’m really excited to support them and this is one crucial reason.
