JD Vance laughed at CNN’s Alayna Treene after she fact-checked a joke he made about Tim Walz and Democrats choosing Chicago to host the DNC.
On August 20, Vance said:
“My little theory about why they decided to have the convention in Chicago: Tim Walz has been going around saying that he served in war and maybe they did it in Chicago so he could accurately say he visited a combat zone.”

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale debunked the lie that Donald Trump wrote Project 2025.
However, Dale didn’t debunk the lies spread throughout the convention connecting Trump to the Heritage Foundation project.

Notice the fact check didn’t say that Chicago wasn’t a combat zone. Nor did it say Walz wouldn’t claim it as such. Just that they picked Chicago in 2023
