Foo Fighters To Donate All Royalties From Trump Use Of “My Hero” To Harris-Walz

Foo Fighters To Donate All Royalties From Trump Use Of “My Hero” To Harris-Walz

Such a self-own. Sigh.

This crap happens all the time. WHY isn’t the Trump campaign getting approval before playing songs?

Billboard reports:

Donald Trump may consider Robert F. Kennedy Jr. his hero, given he played the Foo Fighters’ 1997 anthem “My Hero” to welcome him to the stage at a rally Friday (Aug. 23) in Glendale, Arizona, after the independent presidential candidate suspended his campaign and endorsed the Republican nominee — but the band is calling the move a big zero.

“Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it,” a spokesperson tells Billboard of the unauthorized usage. Furthermore, “appropriate actions are being taken” against the campaign, the spokesperson continues, and any royalties received as a result of this usage will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.

Bill Clinton called and asked for his genre to come home.

“WHY isn’t the Trump campaign getting approval before playing songs?”

Oh, stop. The Trump campaign should continue using the song and any song it likes for its campaign.

Why do conservatives have to continue acting like punks when it comes to the Left?

NeverTrumpers gonna NeverTrump. Concern trolls gonna Concern troll. Pay it no mind.

How about the Trump campaign not donating money direct to Biden-Harris?

This was the definition of a self own. Not only would any lawyer have told Trump no, any 1st year law student would.

If you want to see Trump as president his scoring goals for the other team should bother you a lot.

Instead of paying bands HE KNOWS backs Harris, how about he pays for some dam adds already to define Harris?

How about showing the clip of her being outraged that people could celebrate Christmas? How about some of her threats to confiscate patents? How about showing her declaring everyone systemically racist? All of which would have been a better use of money instead of sending it to her campaign.

Right now Democrats have not won but they are ahead.

Those ‘royalties’ would be measured in dimes, maybe pennies. When venues buy ASCAP public performance licenses, those licenses really aren’t that expensive even for giant venues like Trump is selling out (think several thousands of dollars annually, at most). That money is then divided up among all the ASCAP members using a complicated formula. Of the thousands in royalties the venue pays, the Foo Fighters are getting pennies.

Here’s the best part: There’s NOTHING the Foo Fighters or any ASCAP musician can do to stop Trump from using their music so long as he’s at a venue with a license (or the campaign could have bought their own license). When artists sign with ASCAP, they allow the license holders to use their music in public performances, just like Trump is doing. If Trump, or anyone, wanted to cut a commercial and use Foo Fighter music in it, that’s a different license that generally would require artist approval.

The Trump campaigned confirmed that they (predictably) have obtained their own music performance license through BMI.

It just does his campaign no favors to have groups constantly come out against him using their music. They did the same thing to Romney, so it’s not just Trump. But it’s worse for Trump because it just reaffirms what too many low-infos believe: that he’s hated by everyone. He’s not, obviously, but this is bad optics. And yes, optics matter in politics. Always have, always will.

Voted for Trump before, voted against him in primary, donated to his campaign and intend to vote for him again, but are alarmed when Trump does major unforced errors and say so?

        You are a Never Trumper

Support Trump but wondering where the hell your donation is going when the web is Trump add free and inundated with Kamala propaganda?

        You are a never Trumper

The people using that term like the people using the term “establishment” just means “anyone I don’t like”.

They do it to every Republican, and there’s almost no way to avoid it. They did it to Bush (both of them), they did it to McCain and Dole, they did it to Reagan. In fact Foo Fighters already did it to McCain for the same song!

Trivial poop, as Frank Zappa used to say.

So, the Foo Fighters have become the Woke Fighters?

Oh no! Anyway….

every time the left in any form uses the term MAGA

they must pay the Trump campaign

WHY isn’t the Trump campaign getting approval before playing songs?

1. Because they wouldn’t get it.

2. Because they don’t need to. As TargetTS says, if they buy a license they can use anything in the ASCAP catalog for the same price. (However the venue’s license is only valid for events held by the venue itself, not for third-party events that hire the venue, so they can’t rely on that.)

The Boo Hoo Fighters!

Dave Grohl: Decent musician, incorrigible political idiot. His former bandmate, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide injecting heroin that was undoubtedly smuggled across the U.S. border. The same border that Harris and Walz want to erase.

So easy for Trump to just have some rapper/hip hop guy or gal write a song for him like 50 cent; that dude loves him. Honestly it would make him appear cooler and drive Democrats crazy that a popular Black artist supports him.
