ABC’s Jon Karl Calls Out Harris for Using Trump’s Border Wall in Immigration Ad

Remember when Harris denounced the wall? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Kamala Harris can literally get away with anything. Some journalists will slip in real journalism at times…not much, though.

ABC’s Jon Karl discussed immigration with Bernie Sanders on Sunday, noting how Harris has supposedly changed her mind about disbanding ICE and decriminalizing illegal border crossings.

Karl showed parts of Harris’s latest immigration ad because it showcases Donald Trump’s border wall.

Matt Whitlock posted a video with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz denouncing the border wall:

Harris: We don’t need to build a wall. And by definition just plainspeak basic English language definition it is not an emergency.

Walz: You know he talks about this wall I always say “let me know how high it is.” If it’s 25 ft and I’ll invest in the 30 ft ladder.

Harris: To suggest that we have to build a wall across our Southern border because there are terrorists who are trying to invade the country…it couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Here’s part of the Karl interview with Sanders:

JON KARL: And on immigration, when Harris ran for the Democratic nomination against you and others in 2020, she said she favored decriminalizing illegal border crossings. She even suggested she was – she would be in favor of abolishing ICE. Now, of course, she’s taking, at least rhetorically, a much tougher line on border security.

Take a look at this – one of her very first ads as the presidential nominee.

HARRIS CAMPAIGN: Kamala Harris has spent decade fighting violent crime. As a border state prosecutor, she took on drug cartels and jailed gang members for smuggling weapons and drugs across the border. As vice president, she backed the toughest border control bill in decades. And as president, she will hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris.

KARL: What do you make of her transformation on this issue?

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS: Well, I don’t think it’s a question of transformation. We have a crisis at the border. We’ve got to make sure that fentanyl does not get into this country. We have to crack down on illegal immigration.

But what we need is comprehensive immigration reform. I mean you’ve got God knows how many young people in this country as a result of DACA who deserve to gain citizenship. We need skilled workers and we need workers in this country. A lot of labor shortages all over America where immigrants can play an important role.

So, keeping people from illegally entering the country, obviously, is the right thing to do. But we need comprehensive immigration reform. And I suspect that’s what the vice president supports.

KARL: But – but if you take a look at that ad, and one thing that I found striking is, if you look – and I think we have the – the images here, there are at least three points in that ad that show the border – the border wall. Donald Trump’s border wall. Is it now the position of the Democrats that they favor the border wall?

SANDERS: Well, you – you can ask the Harris campaign about that ad. That’s the first that I’ve seen it.

Maybe? Just… maybe? Some of the mainstream media is finding Mrs. Emhoff to be SO bad that they are becoming… news reporters?

HOW high were those Walz at the dnc in chicago???

“I mean you’ve got God knows how many young people in this country as a result of DACA who deserve to gain citizenship.”

Why do they deserve citizenship? Because a “promise” was made to them by someone not authorized to deliver on it? It was a false promise. Republicans need to lean into this. Instead of allowing the Dems to hammer them on this issue, they should put the blame where it belongs, on Barack Obama for lying to these people and creating false expectations. The country owes these people nothing. They can take whatever education and experience they’ve gained while here back to their home countries and probably do very well for themselves. If they decide later they’d prefer to live in the US, they can come back – the legal way.

The U.S. is either a nation of laws, or a nation that has surrendered to anarchy.

Harris says illegal immigrants are not illegal. Yet they break our laws with impunity and without consequence. If they can ignore our laws, why can’t the “average” citizen? Why can’t I drive 90 in a 40 zone? Why can’t I rob banks? Oh, “those laws will be enforced”. If that’s the case, enforce them ALL, or abolish them all.

There is no middle ground. Every immigrant who enters this country illegally has violated the law and they are criminals. Instead of catch and release, let’s go with catch and deport. The illegals can wait out their court date in some other country, not in the U.S.
