The White House announced Vice President Kamala Harris is the future of the Democratic Party.
“One of the reasons why he picked the Vice President… President Kamala Harris… is because she is indeed the future of the party,” said Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
I see people saying KJP said “the quiet part out loud,” but if you watch the video she tripped on her words.
If she didn’t say Vice President and only President, then yes, I would agree. Here is the entire exchange.

However, if you listened to the exchange, KJP agreed that yes, Biden is a “transitional” president.
That gives more credence to my thinking the man behind the curtain runs the show. I doubt it’s Harris, though.
People keep talking about California Gov. Gavin Newsom. But am I the only one who thinks he thinks he’s part of the “in” crowd, but he’s really not, and they only tolerate him because their moms told them to include him?

I think Kamala plays three dimensional intersectionality.
But she’s clearly a dope, there’s no doubt about that.
1. She is black. Her father is black, and that makes her black too.
2. She has slave owners in her ancestry, just like most black Americans do. Being descended from slave owners is pretty much an inherent condition in being descended from slaves. So, like most black Americans, it’s more accurate to say that some of Harris’s ancestors owned others of her ancestors.
Yes and no. Sure she is of both African and Punjab descent. However when most folks (at least in my circles so mileage may vary) use the term ‘black’ that usually excludes more recent immigrants and their offspring b/c ‘black’ is also a cultural reference rooted in at minimum pre end of Jim Crow experience and/or defendants of slaves in the US. Someone who came or whose family came to the US after the end of the Civil rights era lacks that cultural connection.
Sure some guy from Nigeria is ‘black’ but he doesn’t carry the same cultural baggage both +/- as some guy from Mississippi whose family has been in Mississippi for 200+ years. I hesitate to use the word ‘authentic’ but it might fit for this context. Perhaps there’s a less loaded word that I can’t summon on one cup of coffee.

There is large statistical difference in lifetime outcomes between Caribbean immigrants who are also of African descent and those native born in the USA who are descended from/products of slavery in the USA. Some of the differences are likely the result of some successful slave revolts (earning v being granted) and majority population that post WWII independence and /or home rule put that majority population in control of their own political and economic destiny. The mindset and outlook of one with a dependent/victim v independent/responsible for one’s own fate mindset looms very large.
Thomas Sowell has written extensively on the issue of differences between these both equally African in descent, both equally descended from slavery, both equally exposed to ‘western’ language/dominant culture but differing in very statistically significant ways in terms of outcomes.

I think the two are largely compatible.
There is no way to get Harris out of office outside of impeachment that doesn’t require her agreement, however grudgingly she agrees. There is, however, nothing that guarantees her spot on the 2024 ticket other than Biden’s word. The easiest way to fix the Kamala problem, if it is perceived by the Democrats to be a problem, is replace Biden and allow his replacement to pick a new VP.
The flip side of that means Biden and Harris could have a certain interest in hanging together. So long as Kamala refuses to go quietly the Dems have problems replacing Biden and so long as Biden isn’t replaced Kamala’s position as VP is more secure than not
The two are sometimes described as being unfriendly but I think this is a case of “the enemy of my enemy is my ally”

Kamala is the ideal Joe Biden replacement for Joe to many Democrats because she too is incompetent. She will control nothing, change nothing. This is appealing to those who have prospered under Biden’s
ruletime in office.. Those who support illegal immigration; loose policing; drug legalization; the sexual transformation of the nation; the anti-oil people.A vote for Kamala is a vote to allow these factions to keep doing whatever they want… and that is appealing to them.
The question is the same as ever: do these factions have enough voting density in the major cities to control their parent states?
Take a look at this map from 2020 – you can see that, by county, the majority of areas voted for Trump. However the majority of cities voted (or reported votes for) Biden.
