Report: Trump had More Secret Service Protection on Saturday Due to Iranian Plot to Assassinate Him

CNN reported that former President Donald Trump had more Secret Service protection on Saturday due to an Iranian plot to assassinate him.
Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump on Saturday.
The DHS sources told CNN no one had evidence that would-be assassin Thomas Crooks had connections to Iran.
If Trump had increased security on Saturday, I cannot imagine the security he usually has around him.
A US national security official said the Secret Service and Trump campaign were made aware of the threat before Saturday’s rally.
“Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat stream,” the official told CNN. “NSC directly contacted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat. In response to the increased threat, Secret Service surged resources and assets for the protection of former President Trump. All of this was in advance of Saturday.”
The Trump campaign would not disclose whether it was made aware of the Iran threat. “We do not comment on President Trump’s security detail. All questions should be directed to The United States Secret Service,” the campaign said in a statement.
The Secret Service recently “added protective resources and capabilities to the former President’s security detail,” agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement on Sunday.
Secret Service officials have warned the Trump campaign repeatedly against holding outdoor rallies, which pose greater risks than events to which the agency can better control access, people briefed on the matter said. The warnings have been more general in nature, the sources said.
Security concerns forced Trump’s campaign to halt spontaneous events where the Secret Service couldn’t sweep guests.

The letter by 51 former officials did not say that the laptop was a Russian hoax; it merely said that it was consistent with such a scenario, i.e. it was the sort of thing the Russians might easily do. NPR interviewed him, and he did not mention this claim. Therefore there is a presumption that he has not made this claim anywhere. If he had, why would he not mention it to NPR?
In any case, you are the one making the claim, and you are citing him as your source, so the onus is on you to prove he said it. I am not your clerk. Until you show me where he said it I am entitled to assume he did not say it at all, and that you are attributing it to him in bad faith.

What protects people like the President is the aura and idea that it’s simply impossible to successfully kill him, or has such a low chance that its not worth the attempt, because the consequences for a failed attempt for any country/organization are too much.
IF you believe that Saturday was the result of complete incompetence, rather than malice, it means that a whole lot of unsavory people are going to think that they actually have a chance to start killing politicians they don’t like, because they think it might actually work.

Unbelievable. Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle now admits that the USSS knew the building 125 yards from President Trump was a huge vulnerability, but didn’t station an agent there because it had a “sloped roof.”

Three law enforcement officers were stationed inside the building where a gunman shot former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday.
Two days after the failed assassination attempt, BeaverCountian.com reported that an officer confirmed “there were three counter-snipers” stationed underneath the same roof where the assailant blew off part of President Trump’s right ear. Officers notified the “command center” about the threat before the gunman fatally shot a rallygoer and injured three others, including the Republican presidential nominee.
“A Beaver County police officer warned a command center of seeing a man with a rangefinder before former President Donald Trump was shot on Saturday,” reported the website. “The officer had also warned the man was scoping out the roof of the building he was stationed in as a counter-sniper, and that the man returned with a backpack before ultimately scaling the building.”
According to CBS, law enforcement even took a picture of him before the gunfire.
“Contrary to reports in national news outlets, officers say the building just outside the security perimeter established by Secret Service was in fact occupied by law enforcement,” added BeaverCountian.com.
Federalist CEO Sean Davis summed up the situation on X: “Who gave the order to do nothing until after the assassin shot Trump, killed an innocent man on that stage, and fired round after round after round after round?”

According to sources who spoke with the Post, Crooks was literally climbing on top of the building where the “watch post” for the sn*pers was located.
“The building, the AGR International Inc. factory in Butler, Pennsylvania, was being used by local police as a “watch post” for sn*pers to scan for threats as the former president spoke onstage only 130 yards away,” the Post reported.
Crooks was reportedly spotted at the building 26 minutes before the incident.
But remember, Kim Cheatle had her eyes on the real priority — protecting her DEI Retard Squad from slipping off a roof with a vicious, widow-maker “slope.”

As the presence of the shooter was being reported up the chain of command or onto the USSS/LE radio net, was there anyone who had responsibility to report it up the chain who did not?
Alternatively, if the reports did reach someone with the authority to order the removal of the protectee to safety, but he did not, who was that person?
Ditto this with respect to an order releasing the snipers to engage.
This is the person or persons who deserves a hard look. It’s obvious the snipers were aware of the shooter but did not engage timely and the protectee remained exposed. Who caused these two failures? Were reports intercepted and not passed up? Were orders given and not passed along? If either (or both) of these things happened, who was the weak link or the intentional roadblock?
With the addendum that you start there and follow the orders – upward.

Does anyone know what ammunition caliber the murderous thug used? I thought I saw .22LR mentioned somewhere, but, I’m not certain.
If a standard AR platform, some flavor of 223/5.56 ammo. Someone mentioned 22LR which was totally wrong. The cheap stuff is 55 grain whatever, next up would be 62 grain including green tip for the mil spec type. Civilian style can be anything from 52 grains or so up to 90. My guess is either 55 or 62 mil spec. No picture of the rifle yet as to whether any low profile optic.
On Saturday I wrote that it sounded like .22LR. The earliest video I saw had really poor audio quality and I didn’t hear the ‘crack’ of the rounds going supersonic. The echoing noise also sounded (to me) like the clacking of a .22 semi-auto action. Anyway, I was clearly wrong.
One thing I learned late in my military career (when cellphone video became ubiquitous) is that it’s incredibly difficult to reliably predict the caliber of a weapon firing on video. I’ve filmed/watched all kinds of video at rifle ranges and other live-fire ranges and during actual firefights while deployed and have realized that acoustics can vary wildly. Depending on phone it’s physical relationship to the weapon, terrain, nearby objects like trees or buildings, the sound profile of the same weapon can be drastically different from one video to the next.
The more urban the setting, the more difficult it is to predict. In person, it’s not difficult really at all. You can easily identify the difference in a rifle or pistol as well as the differences in caliber, particularly in non-suppressed AR variants. They generally have a very distinctive audio signature, or ‘report’ as it’s called in the biz.
Most audio devices will “clip” the sound of something like a gun firing. They are just incapable of recording it with sufficient fidelity to produce an accurate sound on playback. And as good as cell phones are, and even professional broadcast mics, they’re not made to handle the dynamic range of such sounds, and will inevitably clip them to a greater or lesser degree.
They generally have a very distinctive audio signature

There was a mass shooting in spring 93 with what I understood to be 22 LR. Very close to home…like ground zero. A few died. Another fellow with a .357 returned fire. I worked with the police sniper (briefly before he was a cop)- who took him down with a .308. For reasons never told the police sniper didn’t double tap him as trained so perp got the pleasure of a life sentence.
My take away:
-Don’t doubt the .22 LR
-.308 from a decent rifle with a skilled shooter is probably not going to miss.

We’re beyond 48 hours now and I expected to be in a place where we had concluded that a lone gunman that had consumed too much leftist media decided to take matters into his own hands and got lucky by getting off eight rounds.

There was no need for a reason to “deny” him protection; he was not entitled to it and normally would never even be considered for it. He is not a major candidate, so he needs a reason why he should get it, and the mere fact that his name is Kennedy is not enough. The last time a Kennedy was assassinated was over 50 years ago. Now he’s getting it only because the public focus on assassination makes it look bad if he doesn’t get it, especially if something does happen to him.
