NIH Spending Millions of Tax Dollars on Racism and Medicine Studies

“Black Hazardous Drinkers: Ecological Momentary Assessment of Racial/Ethnic Microaggressions”

What a joke. Why are we even funding this institution?

The College Fix reports:

NIH spends $136 million in taxpayer funds on racism and medicine studies

A study on black drinkers and “microaggressions” is just one of the 267 research projects from the National Institutes of Health focusing on racism and medicine.

In total, the taxpayer-funded entity has spent $136 million on racism-focused studies so far during the 2024 fiscal year, according to a College Fix analysis.

Some focus on race and racial disparities from an observational standpoint, such as research from the University of Colorado Denver which looked into the relationship between “food insecurity and cardiometabolic health in diverse children and adolescents.”

But others were more upfront about their belief that racism drives healthcare disparities, such as a Louisiana State University study titled “Black Hazardous Drinkers: Ecological Momentary Assessment of Racial/Ethnic Microaggressions.”

Its abstract states the goal of the research is “to elucidate the role of MAs [microaggressions] in hazardous drinking and alcohol use motivation among Black individuals.”

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism granted $176,740 to the project in fiscal year 2024.

The researchers did not respond to two emailed requests for comment on the study, sent by The Fix in the past month. The Fix asked for clarification on the role of systemic racism and the study’s potential application to other minority groups

The NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences provided $10,140,000 to the University of Michigan. The money went to the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research. The goal, according to the abstract, includes “achiev[ing] greater innovation, diversity, efficiency, equity, quality, inclusion, and reach.”

A spokesperson for Michigan Medicine said the money will be used for “the advancement of research to improve the lives of humankind.”

Mary Masson told The Fix the goal of the “translational science research” project is “to provide health solutions to all people more quickly.”

The National Institutes of Health did not respond to two emailed requests for comment sent in the past month.

Another study from Columbia University looks at “Epigenomic Pathways from Racism to Preterm Birth.”

The study will “examine the multilevel (the interaction of individual and structural) racism… to determine if racism explains the excess [preterm birth] observed in [non-Hispanic] Black and Hispanic women.”

This is yet another argument for smaller government. When the government has an essentially bottomless pool of money and a vast number of people thinking up new ways to spend that money, you get things like this that are intended more to advance an agenda than to learn anything real.

Take away 99% of the money, lay off 99% of the people and most (never all) of this kind of silliness will vanish.

It was NIAAA who years ago funded a study on place prefernce of alcohol consumption in mice which concluded that consumption increased in dark quiet environments. Apparently the principle investigator had never been in “every bar everywhere.” My comment did not make me popular with that particular journal club.

When DEI allows you to hire vast numbers of the incompetent and otherwise unemployable, they have to do SOMETHING.

And the NIH knows that many of these mediocre DEI hires can’t be expected to do significant research, but it wants to be able to say that they are succeeding. So the NIH and its minions are careful to award enough race-based grants required for “equity.” Most of these “projects” will end up publishing the same old racist BS in specialty racist journals that nobody reads. A lot of it will be or seem plagiarized, since there are only so many excuses you can make.

The worst effect of this scam is that it causes people to wonder about the competent Black scientists, not knowing whether they succeeded on their own merit or on a DEI scam.

The results of these studies will be useless. We have got to change the mindset of unlimited funding to spending on necessities.

Unfortunately, virtue-signaling has taken priority over necessities. And virtue-signaling is VERY expensive. The good projects will suffer while DEI recipients churn out repetitive, mostly preachy and complaining, junk.

the one study they wont do is

why are black households fatherless ( the welfare state)

and 6% ( of the total 13%) population of the black community is responsible for over 50% of all violent crimes in the usa …again,,,the welfare state

NIH is known to fund some pretty stupid studies, some of which get prioritized above far more critically needed research. For example, one study received $5 million to get “hipsters” to stop smoking by bribing them. Why they just could not tell them to stop smoking I don’t know, but there you have it. This was in 2011, when that money really could have been used for a far more important question, like antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative infections. This is the kind of crap NIH funds. And of course who was Preezey back then? Obatshit, of course.
