House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced a bipartisan task force to investigate the failed security that led to a man shooting former President Donald Trump.
The shooter killed Corey Comperatore and injured James Copenhaver and David Dutch.
“We have the utmost confidence in this bipartisan group of steady, highly qualified and capable Members of Congress to move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability and help make certain such failures never happen again,” said Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries in a combined statement.
The task force has three objectives:
The committee has seven Republicans and six Democrats.
The Republican members are:
Kelly represents Butler, PA, the location of the assassination attempt. He attended the rally and sat in the front row.
Democrats:
The task force will have all investigative authority, including subpoena authority.
“For the remainder of this Congress, it will assume control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations regarding the Trump assassination attempt,” the two added.
