Israel: Reports of Large Explosion, Possibly From Drone, Near U.S. Embassy Branch In Tel Aviv

Medical personnel took at least seven people to the hospital.

Videos and pictures have emerged of an explosion near the U.S. Consulate in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A preliminary investigation from the IDF:

A preliminary investigation shows that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the fall of an aerial target, which did not trigger a warning. The matter is under in-depth investigation. Many forces are now operating in place. The Air Force will increase the patrols of the planes operating to protect the country’s skies. There is no change in the directives of the Home Front Command.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supposedly canceled his trip to America. [Update: This claim does not appear to be true.]

Ambulance service said 8 hospitalized in Tel Aviv. One died from the drone’s shrapnel.

Translation: “Crazy! Documentation of the UAV explosion in the city of Tel Aviv, you can hear a hum and then a huge explosion.”

I had a satellite earth station install just outside Tel Aviv 13 years ago. I had a gorgeous 20 year old female IDF handler that was with me every minute I was not on site building the satellite dish. Four weeks in, the coffee shop we frequented on the way into work got rocketed by Hamas 10 minuets before we got there. Israel was suddenly like Afghanistan but with pretty women. My IDF handler treated me like a platonic sugar daddy as I was 29 years older than her. That was my best install. Hamas needs to die.

U.S. Consulate….. U.S. Embassy Branch Office… nice to see that the real Embassy is now in Jerusalem.

I was in Tel Aviv 20 years ago when a suicide bomber hit Mike’s Place, right next to that US consulate.

Why are we focusing on the Embassy? It was a lot closer to Original Thai Massages than the Embassy.

Maybe Hezbollah doesn’t like happy endings.

The fact that a UAV (of modest size or more) can launch from Yemen, fly presumably undetected either through Saudi and then through Jordan or up through the Red Sea and then over Egypt to eventually make it into the Med to then cross into Israeli airspace and strike a target in Tel Aviv is hugely troubling. Israel will likely not publicly comment on what went wrong, for obvious reasons. But, whatever it was, I hope it a failure of automated defense system (which can be corrected) rather than a generational improvement in Iranian tech.

What I heard today (unverified, take it with as much salt as you like) is that they spotted it but mistakenly calculated that it was going to hit an empty field so they decided to let it through.

This must be a mistake.

I know this because Ben Stiller said this war must end.

And Bill Burr said he’s concerned about the children.

And Thomas Friedman said that there’d be peace in the Middle East and in Dearborn if only the Jews would get massacred and raped and kidnapped.

And Antony Blinken learned a new cord on his guitar.

So again, this must be some kind of a mistake.

So when we will see Iran’s karma come home to roost?
