ABC’s Rachel Scott Opens Trump’s NABJ Interview Over Supposed Attacks on Black Journalists

ABC’s Rachel Scott Opens Trump’s NABJ Interview Over Supposed Attacks on Black Journalists

Dude. Trump criticizes everyone.

Did you watch former President Donald Trump’s segment at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention?

Could ABC’s Rachel Scott be more condescending and off-topic? She immediately started the panel with a rude and loaded question about supposed attacks on minority journalists and the community.

Except, you know, Trump criticizes everyone. I put the transcript below the tweet.

Scott asked:

Mr. President, we appreciate you giving us an hour of your time. I want to start by addressing the elephant in the room, sir. A lot of people did not think it was appropriate for you to be here today. You have pushed false claims about some of your rivals, from Nikki Haley to former President Barack Obama, saying that they were not born in the United States, which is not true. You have told four congresswomen, women of color who were American citizens, to go back to where they came from. You have used words like “animal” and “rabid” to describe Black district attorneys. You’ve attacked Black journalists, calling them losers and saying the questions they ask are “stupid” and “racist.” You’ve had dinner with a white supremacist at your Mar-a-Lago resort. So my question, sir, now that you are asking Black supporters to vote for you, why should Black voters trust you after you have used language like that?

Trump answered just like Trump would, immediately calling out Scott for her behavior.

I mean, body language and tone are everything. Scott was defensive and uptight the whole time.

Trump:

Well, first of all, I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner. The first question. You don’t even say hello or ask how I am. Are you with ABC? Because I think they’re a fake news network, a terrible network, and I think it’s disgraceful.

I came here in good spirit. I love the Black population of this country. I’ve done so much for the Black population of this country, including employment and opportunity zones with Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, which is one of the greatest programs ever for Black workers and Black entrepreneurs.

I’ve done so much, and you know, historically Black colleges and universities were out of money. They were stone-cold broke, and I saved them and gave them long-term financing when nobody else was doing it. I think it’s a very rude introduction. I don’t know exactly why you would do something like that.

Let me go a step further. I was invited here, and I was told my opponent, whether it was Biden or Kamala, was going to be here. It turned out my opponent isn’t here. You invited me under false pretenses. And then you said you couldn’t do it with Zoom. Well, you know, where’s Zoom? She’s going to do it with Zoom, and she’s not coming. Then you were half an hour late. Just so we understand, I have too much respect for you to be late. They couldn’t get their equipment working or something was wrong. I think it’s a very nasty question.

I have answered the question. I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln. That’s my answer.

Scott asked if he thought he was better than LBJ due to his Voting Rights Act.

Trump: “For you to start off a question-and-answer period, especially when you’re 35 minutes late because you couldn’t get your equipment to work, in such a hostile manner, I think it’s a disgrace.”

I feel 50/50 on this.

I’m glad he didn’t do what most attacked conservatives do and try to play sheepishly nice and unnecessarily apologetic…fence sitters aren’t usually convinced by such behavior. However, I wonder how dodging the question and not breaking down the inaccuracies and loaded points one by one plays with the audience he is trying to court.

The audience was laughing out loud. Just play the video.

I would like to see the camera on the video because I suspect we would seen what we see everywhere else in America: that is a huge male-female divide on Trump, with especially the single females being reliably leftist and ant-Trump.

Add that Trump facing an all female panel supposedly representing black journalism. Why were they all female?

I would not be surprised at all if the men were getting a kick out of Trump while the women were frowning.

Sorry, but offering himself up to black journalists is just poor judgment. What was the point? What was he thinking?

He’s toying with the idea of fighting in blue turf. He even had a rally in NYC.

Because he’s not a pussy like career politicians are. Also shows he’s happy to get in to situations like this and take it by the scruff and get it on.

That’s the kind of person who should be in the White House, not someone who hides and only ever goes places that are ideologically safe.

Trump has tremendous confidence. He’s not afraid to talk to anyone. And he was right that this first question was rude and obnoxious. Scott threw in enough accusations as to make the question impossible to answer in any serious manner.. Her accusations were not specific, but a laundry list of generalized complaints. Not very professional.

Do you know the percentage of the black voting community that votes Blue EVERY election? It is safe to characterize it as “overwhelming.” It doesn’t change. There is simply no point in DJT doing what he did. It was worse than a waste of time. Don’t you think being productive is a better idea than wasting time, energy and money?

Q, you could have said the same thing about Pennsylvania up until 2016. And one part of one day for free was not a high expenditure.

Blacks are slowly weening themselves off the Democratic plantation.

Democrats have come to just expect Blacks to vote for them just because someone’s got black skin. But slowly those same dependable black votes are moving away from Democrats.

Now this won’t be a fast process and Republicans HAVE to earn those votes. The best way of earning those votes is Trump going to places where Blacks get their information and challenge the narrative, like he’s done perfectly here.

Also, in the last election Trump received the highest black vote ever by a Republican Presidential nominee. He keeps that going this election and that change is going to cause REAL trouble for the racists in the Democrat party.

He was probably thinking that if he can get just a small percentage of black voters thinking, just 5% or 10% of them, even if they don’t come over to him but at least they don’t vote for Harris, that’s a win.

Yep. Polling shows black Men moving towards DJT in higher numbers than black.Women. IMO, the audience he’s trying to reach is black Men in particular and non hard lefty black Women in general. He’s appealing to them by not really running a subset of ‘black’ campaign issues and instead using the same general campaign message across the board to all potential voters. Gonna be quite the contrast with the goodie bag/ID politics of the d/prog.

Surprised she didn’t ask, “ So, Mr. Donald, when did you stop whipping your slaves?”

Probably should note that Kamala just skipped her first opportunity to debate Trump – as she said just yesterday in Atlanta

“So he won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure have a lot to say about me..”

“Donald…if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”

After stating there would be no Zoom Ins, NABJ announced 60 minutes prior to Trump’s in person appearance that Kamala would be doing a Zoom later.

Reaching out to the black community in their churches or civic gatherings is smart. Black churches overwhelmingly support Democrats. But, there might be a few people sitting on those pews who aren’t crazy about men in girls’ bathrooms and illegal aliens displacing black students nor paying 50% more for groceries than they were the last time Trump was president.

Reaching out to the community of BLACK JOURNALISTS is not smart. No person of color who might be tempted to vote for any Republican is going to pay attention to one of the most INSANELY leftist professional organization in the country.

Maybe those “persons of color” would check in to see how DJT handled his visit to the lions’ den. All knew it would be a hostile group. Nonetheless, he showed up, on time, and dealt with the hostility. As noted, he did not grovel and try to mealy-mouth his way around confrontational questions.

Perhaps he should have answered questions with questions, like “why don’t you ask confrontational questions like this of President Biden, or VP Harris, or even Blinken, or anyone in the administration?”

Of course, the elephant in the room is: why is there an association of black journalists? …. What difference does it make what color the journalist is? Nothing says “recist” like segregating by race.

Normal people who are largely disconnected from the day-to-day political happenings (but who often decide elections) will NEVER see any of the highlights of that event that paint Trump in a favorable light. But, every moment that is damning will be amplified by the media and find itself into campaign commercials in battleground states.

If they see it at all it could be a net positive. I mean that quite literally; a persuadable voter passing by a screen where suited Trump is talking to a room of black journalists.

“Scott asked if he thought he was better than LBJ due to his Voting Rights Act.”

I do not have a Ph.D. in 20th century American history but even I know that LBJ was a stone cold racist. He *hated* blacks as did most white southerners of his vintage.

That quote attributed to LBJ upon signing the civil rights act sums up the overarching attitude of the democrats towards blacks.

It’s a shame they can’t/don’t see it.

How he felt isn’t really relevant. If the VRA were a good thing for black people (it wasn’t) then he would have been a good president for them regardless of his motive or his “mean tweet”, so to speak.

Nixon didn’t like Jews, but he saved Israel in the Yom Kippur War. That counts a lot more than his feelings.

How he felt is entirely relevant. Racists who truly hate someone is entirely relevant to any conversation on that persons history.

Nope. Acts matter. Feelings don’t. I’ll take an antisemite like H. L. Mencken who stood up for Jews despite his dislike, over “philosemites” like Joe Biden, or actual “semites” like Schumer, who put their own career ahead of doing the right thing.

If Kamala Harris were an antisemite she would not have married a Jew, however assimilated. Clearly she is not one. But she is not good for the Jews, and a Jew would have to be crazy to vote for her. Meanwhile there may well be Republicans who don’t like Jews; so long as they vote the right way, and act in ways that are objectively good for the Jews, I don’t care.

Trump took her on and defeated her. He didn’t get raving lunatic upset. He just pointed out how rude she was and how much of a loser she was. He goes to people and places the demonrats won’t. LBJ was an unrepentant racist. The only thing missing was a white sheet with a hood. The exact quote after passage of the Voting Rights Act was “we will have those N*****s voting Democrat for the next 100 years”. Even Bill Moyer admitted that. FKH

I bet she didn’t know any of the facts he related. Trump is fact checked for every comment. I would have loved to have seen her face when she later tried to prove him a liar.
