Medical Journal The Lancet Abandons Science, Tells Authors to Use ‘Sex Assigned at Birth’

“…the terms ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ can be ambiguous…”

The prestigious medical journal The Lancet‘s guidelines encourage writers to embrace gender identity instead of biological sex.

“Sex and gender are often incorrectly portrayed as binary (female/male or woman/man), concordant, and static,” says the guidelines.

Therefore, those submitting articles “should use the term ‘sex assigned at birth’ rather than ‘biological sex,’ ‘birth sex’ or ‘natal sex’ as it is more accurate and inclusive.”

Inclusive for whom? (Rhetorical question. I know the answer. The men pretending to be females)

The Lancet claims “there is no single, universally agreed-upon set of guidelines for defining sex and gender or reporting sex-based and gender based analyses.”

The XX and XY chromosomes set those guidelines, The Lancet.

The guidelines get worse because, apparently, “sex” has many definitions concerning humans.

“In human research, the term ‘sex’ carries multiple definitions,” according to the guidelines. “It often refers to an umbrella term for a set of biological attributes associated with physical and physiological features (eg, chromosomal genotype, hormonal levels, internal and external anatomy). It can also signify a sex categorisation, most often designated at birth (“sex assigned at birth”) based on a newborn’s visible external anatomy.”

My body parts do not make me female. My XX chromosomes make me female.

The Lancet then conflates those with chromosomal disorders with those who identify as non-binary.

For crying out loud. Those born with XXY or XYY didn’t have a choice (emphasis mine):

However, these constructs exist along a spectrum that includes additional sex categorisations and gender identities, such as people who are intersex/have differences of sex development (DSD), or identify as non binary. In any given person, sex and gender might not align, and both can change. Sex and gender are not entirely discrete concepts and their definitions continue to evolve. Biology and society influence both, and many languages do not distinguish between them. Since the terms “sex” and “gender” can be ambiguous, authors should describe the methods they use to gather and report sex-related and/or gender-related data (eg, self-report or physician-report, specific biological attributes, current sex/gender, sex assigned at birth, etc) and discuss the potential limitations of those methods. This will enhance the research’s precision, rigor, and reproducibility, and avoid ambiguity or conflation of terms and the constructs to which they refer.

There are no constructs because sex is binary. You are either a female or male.

You cannot change your sex. It is scientifically and medically impossible to change your sex, no matter what surgeries you have or how many hormones you pump into your body.

This language change will ruin science and medicine in the future, as well as research and studies. Diseases and illnesses affect females and males differently.

Imagine thinking this type of inclusivity will “enhance the research’s precision, rigor, and reproducibility” when you include a male in a female-only study or research.

There’s the DEI:

When ascertaining gender and sex, researchers should use a two-step process: (1) ask for gender identity allowing for multiple options and (2) if relevant to the research question, ask for sex assigned at birth. In addition to this defining guidance and the SAGER guidelines, you can find further information about reporting sex and gender in research studies on Elsevier’s diversity, equity, and inclusion in the publishing author guide available here.

The link provided in the paragraph does not work.

It’s not the first time The Lancet has erased women.

In 2021, The Lancet apologized for referring to females as “bodies with vaginas.”

Stop reducing females to body parts and hormones.

“the terms “sex” and “gender” can be ambiguous,”

Is it ambiguous for studies of cats, or amoebas?

Or is there only one type of creature where we create confusion?

Britain has fallen

No one should be surprised that vile Leftists and Dhimmi-crats would gleefully sacrifice and subvert objective and rational biological/medical/scientific truths and facts in service to their wretched and evil “trans” narcissism, misogyny and fascism.

That said, it’s still disturbing to see the alacrity with which supposed vanguards of scientific/medical knowledge, such as the Lancet, happily convert to these evil orthodoxies, without proffering a scintilla of protest or resistance. Such feckless reprobates and ideologues.

I can’t even imagine the insanity that I’ve read about — new parents being asked/interrogated by physicians and hospital staff as to what gender they want to “assign” to their newborn baby/babies.

This is beyond the Orwellian and dystopian subversion of reality. The Leftists and Dhimmi-crats are hell-bent upon ushering in something truly evil.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a little verbal jiu-jitsu.
“I’m not assigning him anything. I’ll let him decide when h’s older. If there’s some form you have to fill out where you have to choose right now, sorry, that’s not my problem, YOU HATER.”

Avoid Woke hospitals like the plague. Their management is infected. They only know evil slogans and literally are unable to comprehend basic medical concepts. .

All the more reason to stop capitulating by using “preferred pronouns” and nonsense terms like “transman/-woman.”

This isn’t merely an exercise in pedantics – it is war, and we have to stop fighting these lunatics on their own terms and the battlefield they have set up to their own advantage.

Mary Chastain in reply to nordic prince. | June 2, 2024 at 3:09 pm

It is the hill I will die on. I will not stop fighting. I have young females in my life, and I will not abandon them.

      Me too

nordic prince in reply to Mary Chastain. | June 2, 2024 at 6:50 pm

Some normies seem to think that going along to get along is a virtue, and hence pronouns are “no big deal.” But it truly is a “big deal,” as evidenced by all the rainbow-haired freaks who squeal like stuck pigs if you don’t “respect” their pronouns.

All the more reason to push back good and hard.

More to the point, pretending that sex is optional is disastrous for medicine and medical and pharmaceutical research.

I do not want to treated by those who adhere to this ideology.

henrybowman in reply to Dolce Far Niente. | June 3, 2024 at 1:13 am

No matter. Soon you will be treated by those who adhere to even more transient and irrational ideologies, as well as those whose only real qualification is a piece of paper that lies about them having learned things.

    Exactly

I actually thought Britain was moving back to sanity after outlawing the trans “care” for youth
    Goes not
    Breitbart was right

    WAR

    Prepare accordingly

I actually quit a job as a nurse at a hospital near Austin, But saw this crap coming and knew I would
Be fired cause no way was I ok with the crazy trans crap
Its amazing how many perverts came out after they believed it was politically correct and advantageous in medicine

An ER near my house, multiple husband needed care and when they took us back, a Dr was prancing at the nurses station and a Tech was singing and shaking it next to him
I wanted to leave , but damn, it’s freaking everywhere

      That never happened.

I first wrote of this very concept back in 2017.

“One can dominate the intellectual battlespace by redefining words and concepts, thereby excluding definitions and ideas that one otherwise doesn’t have the weapons to overcome.”

Germans are still astounded that in French predicate adjectives agree with the substantive in gender.

Women balance all the feelings in the air and men abstract from those details and go for structure and stability. That seems to survive even all the identification nonsense.

Denying women the vote was not a plumbing issue.

It’s not enough for the left that they have destroyed the medical profession in the United States. Now they want to do it worldwide.

drsamherman | June 2, 2024 at 3:37 pm

Okay, even where to begin?! They can’t be frickin’ serious?! XX/XY chromosomes determine so many things in medicine it’s beyond count: drug response; organ function (kidney, liver, heart, lung—the entire gamut); disease state susceptibilities and so on. So does race, ethnicity and whole host of other factors that are all GENETIC. Those things can’t be changed by hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery. If anything, those exacerbate underlying predisposing genetic risk factors. There’s nothing we can do about it. Nothing at all. If Dudette wants to become Dude, Dude will still have the kidney function of Dudette and will require a kidney function dosing adjustment for being originally Dudette when dosing a drug like certain antibiotics, for example. And Dude will still have risk factors for diseases that Dude would otherwise not have. Chromosomes will not be denied, and they have this funny habit of overruling human emotions.

Are we all seeing it for what it is? Man is drawn initially to entropy in an attempt to set things in order and once order has been established Man reverts back to self-gratification as he is pleased in what he has created and the subjucation that comes with order.
That was the reason for separation of power, to prevent the inherent misuse by man.

gonzotx in reply to scooterjay. | June 2, 2024 at 4:08 pm

I think it’s more demonic than that

henrybowman in reply to scooterjay. | June 3, 2024 at 1:18 am

“Man is drawn initially to OPPOSE entropy” I think you meant.

      -If he meant anything

DaveGinOly in reply to tbonesays. | June 3, 2024 at 9:23 pm

Oh, he did. I recognize it as a re-statement of something I observed years ago – Intellectuals, and liberals more generally, are always against the status quo. If the status quo is in need of changing/improvement, intellectuals and liberals are right there, trying to make changes. The problem is they don’t know when to stop, because when things are running well, they continue to insist on changes, that for something already running well are almost certainly deleterious. And their attitude isn’t one of “let’s help,” it’s more usually “let’s destroy.”

the world is NOT falling apart.
it IS falling into place …. time is short.

I rebel at the nonsensical phrase “assigned at birth”. To assign connotates a decision based on non-obvious information. (Joe is assigned to work in department x for the following reasons …) At birth, there is no decision but rather a simple observation and recording – male or female. I have noticed, however, that Websters and OED are now incorporating this awful language in their definitions. This language implies that one could assign a baby exhibiting male genitalia to be a female. It also leads one to suppose quotas for specific assignments might be in store if say there are two many boys born on any given day. If assignment at birth is a task to be performed by the attending medical personnel, shouldn’t the medical profession have a decision tree for the assignment? And what about those babies born without the benefit of any medical professionals? Can we trust ordinary people to make the correct assignment?

Sorry but God already assigned all available genders. The matter is now closed.

destroycommunism | June 2, 2024 at 5:46 pm

dont forget the goal

now one can or will be allowed to question what the real gender at birth was

therefor

women are equal to men as trans men to women are “REALLY” women

The Lancet is a trash rag. I assign it so.

Embracing evil leads to stupidity. This is why we’re seeing all this irrational nonsense these days.

    CapeBuffalo in reply to D38999. | June 3, 2024 at 3:31 am

Equally, embracing stupidity leads to evil. Stupid, evil people have turned the slippery slope vertical.

So the baby designates its gender? How.? So the ..er…parents will tell?

There are rare intersex uncertainty but those can be dealt with. Lancet can’t even pop a pimple.

If the Taliban became pro-Tranny, this is exactly how they would roll out their ideology.

Lancets are small needle-like medical supplies. With a lancet, you can make a tiny prick in your skin. The Lancet —severely infected by the Woke Mind Virus—needs to pop its bulging mind-boil.

Men wearing sundresses to get into women’s bathrooms to be alongside young girls is a “social construct role” according to the Lancet…

It’s a mental illness to the rest of us.

There are two sex chromosomes. Two.

That means no human can be anything other than ‘binary’.

No matter ho many extra chromosomes you pile on unfortunates those chromosomes will be either X or Y.

There is no Z.

The Lancet has abandoned all pretense at science.
