This was a big win for Trump. Biden came across as weak and mentally frail.
It was so bad that his campaign is claiming he had a cold. Even Never Trumpers are seeing this as a disaster for Biden. The drum beat for Biden to drop out or be replaced is going to grow. Democrats are besides themselves.
Trump was on his game. This format worked out for him. The lack of talk-over worked to Trump’s advantage. Substantively he was on message of how the open border is destroying the country. Again and again Trump went right after Biden.

The debate will begin at 9 p.m. Eastern and will take place at a CNN studio in Atlanta.
I’m covering it for Mary, who refused a direct order. She says she is sick. Sure.
Anyway, I’m not going to try to keep up with the back and forth, but will post some highlights below as they happen.
There really is only one thing you need to know: CNN. Actually, another thing: CNN. The deck is stacked. Prediction: The Debate will be Trump v. CNN.

All I can say is Trump BETTER have his own camera running.
There’s really only 3 possible reasons for this 2 minute delay nonsense.
1) they want to censor/cut Trump off,
2) They want to be able to cut away from Biden if he has a dementia episode
3) They want to be able to put a giant ‘fact check’ on the screen while he is talking
More glad than ever that Elon bought Twitter, CNN was actually trying to tell people they weren’t allowed to stream live commentary on the debate and he told them to pound sand.
There was no 2 minute delay. That was total BS. In fact, to my disbelief, Tapper and Bash were the best two moderators I have seen in many years. They knew that they would be under a magnifying glass and they did a superb job. Not one interruption of either candidate no matter how far afield that got from the question. Trump did a lot better with his smirks this time and that will help him with the Indies. He still can’t answer a simple question but looked ten times better than Biden. It was both sad and scary to watch Biden.
Overall I agree regarding the moderators but a few notable exceptions come to mind.
The ridiculously loaded climate change and border questions as well as the childcare question to Trump which was obviously designed to put him on some sort of spot with the mommy voter demographic because nobody else would remotely consider it to be a presidential level issue.
The point when Biden brain locked and Tapper bailed him out by jumping in and directing a question to Trump.
The last one most people wouldn’t have noticed. Biden was looking at Bash while Tapper was asking him a question. She had to surreptitiously point to Tapper to direct Joe’s attention to who was talking to him.
I thought they were fair as well and the format actually worked better for Trump than Biden because Biden had no place to hide.
They hit Biden on inflation and the border. Agree the child care question was stupid.
My only real complaint is that they didn’t challenge Biden on the “very fine people” hoax. They know its a hoax and Biden’s whole narrative on Charlottesville is BS but they let him get away with it.
“best two moderators I have seen in many years” is rather faint praise but from the clips and stories I’m seeing this morning no one is talking about them. Few are really talking about Trump aside from the typical “he is a liar” stuff, all the focus is on the disaster that is Biden. Even boot lickers like Joy Reid couldn’t find anything good to say. Van Jones went on a “I love the guy and he loves the country” spiel but his main focus was how horrible that was and Anderson Cooper was stunned into telling the truth for a change

I was in your camp right up till the debate. I am only watching clips as I don’t watch debates but Trump did surprisingly well from what I’m seeing. The contrast between him and Biden was a total gift to Trump so he called it right. From what many including myself thought was a very bad call on Trumps part to do this emerged a total disaster from Biden’s camp. Its almost like Dems don’t want Biden but can’t make him leave so resorted to this sabotage. I have no other explanation as to why they let Biden on stage.

If that was the plan then the Dems shouldn’t have run their ridiculous “virtual convention” 5 days ago to name Biden their candidate in order to make the Ohio ballot deadline. Then they put him on national TV to debate as their candidate.

Not only fairness but did you notice one single interruption of either candidate? After they asked a question, which neither person answered, they never spoke again. I was so gobsmacked that I thought something was wrong. They all but disappeared after each question and to my total surprise, they did a damn good job.
I second that, Inspector. The most they did was “You have 38 seconds left; would you like to answer the question?” They did cut off Biden early on when he did a freeze; rather than letting it go on forever, they “thanked” him and closed out the answer. I count that as a “save”.

The debate was a sick joke. Traitor Joe was certainly reminiscent of some of the final Soviet corpses they used to trot out. I hope people play the buffoon Morning Joe on a continuous loop about how “this is the best Joe Biden, ever!!”
I was just a little disappointed that, 40 minutes into this farce, Trump didn’t say, “Obviously, this moron is not running the country. Listen to him. He’s gone. I want to know who is actually running this nation and that is the person I need to be debating. I don’t debate props.” And then dropped his mic and walked off.
I got off work and started seeing the reactions to the debate. wow.

This was the best Debate Performance ever for President Trump. He was controlled, concise, powerful, succinct with this hanswers, cogent in his responses, and VERY patient in answering, repeating his answers, and repeating his answers again and again to Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. There was only ONE President on that stage this evening, and it wasn’t anyone named “Biden”…
Hopefully, President Trump will take advantage of this monmentum and simply keep steamrolling his way to victory in November!
AMAZING: That was simply an AMAZING Performance by President Trump! He was spot on with his answers, and answerd the questions posed to him by a surprisingly civil and seemingly unbiased Jake Tapper and Dana Bash and the CNN crew.
President Trump answred in such a way that he had plenty of time to continuall point out the failures of Mr. Biden. This was a clear, concise, and decisive Debate Victory for President Trump.
Mr. Biden got a jab or two in, but he largely looked drugged, his answers were off, and he came across as an angry old man who was unable to get to his nap or his bedtime on time.
This performcance by President Trump was his best ever, his most Presidential.
As I stated above, there was only One President on that stage tonight, and it wasn’t Mr. Biden…
As to the moderators, I thought that Tapper did a decent and fair job but Bash was awful. Her “questions” were mostly propaganda, in and of themselves, and exactly what I expected of how this debate would be run. Her claim that 2023 was the “hottest year on record” was a joke, along with the rest of her global warming BS and the other idiocies she threw in every time she had a chance.
Tapper gets a B+ and Bash gets an F … U.

Fallout from Biden’s poor debate performance. Some predictions for Trump:
1. The probability that Judge Merchan will sentence Trump to prison has gone from 50/50 to 99%.
2. Trump could be stuck in Rikers Island for a while before an appellate court lets him out.
3. Judge Chutkan and Jack Smith will move heaven and earth for an early fall trial that will conclude with a pre-ordained DC jury conviction before Election Day.
4. Judge Chutkan will gag Trump before the trial starts.
The question is: will swing voters see through it all?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump gets indicted for Elder Abuse.
I think Trump’s win last night was so decisive that his chances of imprisonment have shrunk. That’s precisely the sort of ham-handed tyranny that would touch off CW II. If they want to put him in prison, they will have to exercise a great deal of diversion and finesse. It’s not that I don’t think Democrats are capable of that, it’s that I think that there isn’t enough finesse in the world to pull it off. Even successful cheaters hit a wall of overreach, and I think the Democrats are running at ram speed.
Who needs finesse? As Stalin or Putin would tell you, if you want to take your enemy out, you take him out. Period. You don’t do anything half-ass or cute. If Merchan follows his inner Putin, he will sentence Trump to 100 years at hard labor in a supermax in upstate NY, neat the Canadian border, and direct that he be forced to break big rocks into little rocks 16 hours a day with a 40 pound sledge. By the time an appeals court stays the sentence, Trump will already have died of a heart attack from the exertion.
Totally missed it as was way past my bedtime.

The curtain the legacy media and WH staff had drawn around Biden to shield him was definitely pulled back yesterday. Biden’s performance met the prediction of those of us who have pointed out he is/has been in rapid decline physically and mentally.
Trump showed he has grown as a conventional candidate. He was able to stay focused on his message of tying most of the problems we face as Nation back to the disastrous open border policies Biden implemented. Trump returned to this again and again underscoring the message. That took discipline and a determined focuses not just on stage but in his prep.
IMO the d/prog have really bad choice. Stick with Biden (ultimately I still think they do) or try and replace him. Replacing him if he (read Jill) is unwilling is gonna be an internal battle between the Clinton wing and Obama wing. Even if he stepped aside they gotta pick Harris (a horrible retail and wholesale politician) or they risk an internal civil war a!omg the various ‘tribes’ of the d/prog coalition. They did this to themselves and now the bill is coming due.
We don’t know, they may have some tricks up their sleeve. Trump should not have given them this datapoint before they had nominated Biden. CNN helped by exposing Biden’s weakness, and CNN can help push their new standard bearer.
I don’t want to get too greedy, but I’m looking down-ballot. Dems are going to need to distance themselves from Biden quickly. Republicans should blister the media with evidence of all those who have been running cover for Joe. That’s most of them.
How long until the Hunter pardon? This is going to hurt the Democrats. It’s a wonderful moment. May it last a long time.

2. Trump to swing left. He no longer needs his base. What he needs is to throw a wrench into Dem plans to replace Biden with a farther left candidate.
The Uniparty could decide to remove Joe from office via the 25th Amendment, allowing Harris to become the interim/first female-black female president (throwing her a bone), but not giving her the candidacy.
They may as well just buy billboards saying,
