This is all about pandering to a certain voting bloc in Michigan that Biden is terrified of losing in November.

The Detroit News reports:

Harris mourns Palestinians killed in Israeli hostage rescue during Detroit speech

Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday night at a Michigan Democratic Party fundraiser lamented the civilian death toll in Israel’s morning rescue of four hostages abducted during Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attack that triggered the conflict.

Harris was welcomed at the Michigan Democratic Party’s annual Legacy dinner in Huntington Place by cheers and applause before addressing the now eight-month-long conflict in Gaza and the four hostages who were rescued by Israeli Defense Forces.

“On Oct. 7, Hamas committed a brutal massacre of 1,200 innocent people and abducted 250 hostages,” Harris said. “Thankfully, four of those hostages were reunited with their families tonight. And we mourn all of the innocent lives that have been lost in Gaza, including those tragically killed today.”

At least 210 Palestinians, including children, were killed Saturday during the Israeli military’s air and ground assault in Gaza, The Associated Press reported.

As Harris was commenting on the civilian death toll, her speech was briefly interrupted by a female protester. The words “44,000 killed” and “it’s a genocide” could be heard before the protester was removed from the ballroom.

“I am speaking right now. I value and respect your voice, but I am speaking right now,” Harris responded to the protester.

Poor Kamala. Four years handpicked for a top government job, and all she has to show for it is the passage of time.

She did acknowledge the Sept 7 massacre. I think we all regret the human shields and other noncombatants killed while Israel hunts the war criminals, so I think Harris got a better speechwriter than usual. What she could have said better is that _all_ of Hamas should die for their crimes, but you’re criticizing the wrong part of that speech.
