The Late Republic

The Late Republic

“The Late Republic, between 200-27 BCE, was defined by the collapse of the system of government.”

“The Late Republic, between 200-27 BCE, was defined by the collapse of the system of government.”

I wondered what John Fetterman was referring to when he apologized to The Jerry Springer Show for comparing it to the U.S. House.

In the past, I’ve described the U.S. House as The Jerry Springer Show.

Today, I’m apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show.

Then I found out.

Marjorie Taylor Greene: “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up”

AOC: “That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person”

Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Why don’t you debate me?”

AOC: “I think it’s gonna be self-evident”

Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence”

James Comer: “Miss Greene, do you agree to unanimous consent to strike your words?”

Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Yes, I’ll strike my words but I’m not apologizing”

Jasmine Crockett: “I’m just curious to better understand your ruling. If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde, bad built, butch body… that would not be engaging in personalities correct?”

James Comer: “Uh, a what now?”

LOL, looks like MTG triggered a few. Too funny. Could make watching Congress a little more fun.

Conservatives have sensibilities that are precious and not to be offended.

Johnny Cache in reply to Paddy M. | May 18, 2024 at 12:04 am

What’s the M stand for? Mistaken? Misguided? Mediocre?

Two thirds of this cat fight were Democrats. Who among them was truly offended? Did you watch the video? Rhetorical question.

The most thin-skinned, humorless snobs in the world are on the left.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Johnny Cache. | May 18, 2024 at 6:54 am

That is because humor is [take your pick]-ist.

Paddy M in reply to Johnny Cache. | May 18, 2024 at 9:55 am

I don’t disagree that the left are humorless scolds, but conservatives have their fair share as well, especially when it comes to policing their own side.

caseoftheblues in reply to Paddy M. | May 18, 2024 at 5:26 pm

YOU are the humorless scold here…,EXACTLY what did you read or see in that exchange that brought about your original comment re conservatives can’t handle being offended. There is nothing and I mean nothing in that exchange OR in what occurs on a daily basis to anyone remotely conservative to support your idiot blathering comment. You leftists can ALWAYS be counted on for your projection…. Every…single.,.time

          Paddy M in reply to Paddy M. | May 18, 2024 at 8:49 pm

          Lolz…caseoftheblues thinks I’m a leftist. 😄

LOL, I saw that. Strange, but what can ya do?

          Obie1 in reply to Paddy M. | May 19, 2024 at 12:04 pm

Therein is the problem. You suggest that those who act as individuals and have opinions that may differ from their “leadership” need to be policed (as any good marxist would), and that there are two competing sides, as in a football game. I submit that most of these folks never played sports and were always picked last in gym class. They never learned to compete fairly and to win and lose with grace or understand that there will always be another day. This is their game, these are their teams, and they are learning how to compete at our expense.

It was the liberals that were offended. Get your facts straight.

Get back to me when either

“butch body” Isn’t that homophobic?

got to love how the racist poc are the most offended when someone might be playing their game

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | May 17, 2024 at 9:48 pm

It’s a shame that all the news coverage of this skips the most important part – MTG’s initial query of the members as to whether any of them have “Judge” Merchan’s daughter on payroll. I’m willing to bet that more than a few have financial ties to the Biden-Bragg New York case and various dirtbag democrat players involved. RICOs for all of them, the lowlife traitors.

I agree, but offhand it would seem that MTG drove it in that direction.
I don’t follow things to have much more to say.

Why do you think all the usual suspects are ignoring that and concentrating on the eyelash thing?

      CommoChief in reply to diver64. | May 18, 2024 at 6:39 am

The public will watch the mean girl/cat fight dynamic and drive traffic, eyeballs and ad revenue. The lawfare angle would get less attention, less revenue and then there is the obvious point that legacy media is in the tank for the d/prog. IMO this was a dumb thing to do by Greene. She chose to create a diversion of ‘owning the libs’ but that ended up derailing the question and the wider public almost certainly is focusing on the catfight and not the actions of the Judge’s Daughter, her potential employment by d/prog politicians and the potential bias of her Father. There’s a time and place for everything but IMO this was not the time/place to go mean girl/catty.

Nobody can do an argument.

Argumentum ad hominem was good classically when it meant tailoring the argument to the interests and conceits of the opponent.

Mauiobserver | May 17, 2024 at 10:32 pm

We have always had buffoonish behavior in Congress. What bothers me much more are the blatant lying like Schiff in Russia Gate or Biden’s vindictive behavior in Judge Thomas’s confirmation.

*yawn*

Any legislative body that has Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a member is by definition a garbage institution.

Mauiobserver | May 17, 2024 at 11:21 pm

What is worse than any of the stupid or vindictive behavior of Congress critters is the blatant use of our security and regulatory agencies to crush opponents of the democrat party or their agenda. Compound that with the utter partisanship of the DOJ and much of the Federal judiciary (DC circuit for example) and we sadly have a situation where individual rights enshrined in the constitution no longer exist. What we currently have are tribal privileges as determined by democrat party elites.

Another Voice in reply to Mauiobserver. | May 18, 2024 at 4:10 pm

“What we currently have are tribal privileges as determined by democrat party elites.”

The old guard of “Constitutionalist’s” vs the last 20 years of the current progressive of “Originalist’s” who want to technically re-write by interpretation the founding document our Constitution of the United States based on the Bill of Rights.
Where the Constitution has been changed it has been done by democratic procedures laid out in the founding of the original document. The progressive left wants to abandon this by SCOTUS appointments to have rulings litigated by interpretation by expanding the meanings to fit the agenda of the day. If those sitting on the bench at SCOTUS were to adopt and/or follow the intent by “Originalist’s”, we would end up like so many other failed countries. As it stands, we as a Republic are in the last 3+ centuries have the longevity by holding on to the Declaration of Independence and the Document of Laws in the Constitution of the United States of America.

Simply Put: Don’t throw it away if ain’t broken.

T’was ever thus:
(During the Lincoln administration)

Cameron’s corruption became so notorious that Pennsylvania Representative Thaddeus Stevens, asked whether there was anything Cameron would not steal, said, “I don’t think that he would steal a red hot stove.”

Cameron demanded Stevens retract this insult, and so Stevens said to Lincoln, “I believe I told you he would not steal a red hot stove. I will now take that back.”

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Hodge. | May 18, 2024 at 7:05 am

A variation on that was done about 40 or more years ago. There was a heated battle in the Knesset, and one member yelled out that half of the Knesset were idiots, or some such insult.

Much hubbub ensued, and an apology was demanded. In perfect Jewish humor mode, he said on television that in fact half of the Knesset were not idiots.

I wonder how long it took the other half to figure it out….

Tolkin did it so well in the Fellowship of the Rings in the words of Bilbo

“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

I almost have to use paper and pencil and math symbols to figure out if the above was a compliment or an insult.

Comer often losee control over his committee

And it’s usually the same handful of members involved

For context, I present ‘The World’s Biggest Political Brawls’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NlqhEeK1iw

I’d buy tickets to see our congress really throw hands again. If only to get it out of their systems.

Then, there was the princess of darkness carrying on for all the world to see . . .

Next, we will hear Nadler and Whitehouse making braying-sheep noises like in Britain’s House of Commons.

Our Capitol Building is impressive, as it is able to hold so many massive egos within its walls.

I still want an answer to “MTG’s initial query of the members as to whether any of them have “Judge” Merchan’s daughter on payroll. ”

Have all the fun with the catfight you want, I’ll wait.

MarkSmith in reply to Valerie. | May 19, 2024 at 3:52 pm

It goes deeper. They are trying to distract for the audio that likely does not match the transcripts that were provided. I think they are caught with Goldman’s funding the Trump hit trial and the Hur mess. Watch the whole cspan episode and it is eye opening the distraction they are doing. They probably spent 2 hours of Trump, Trump, Trump trying to cover up Goldman and the Biden audio.

I’m a big fan of bringing back pistol duels to restore honor and civility as the highest moral value.

If it was good enough for Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Hart Benton, why not?

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Groty. | May 19, 2024 at 5:13 am

You have to admit. Chicago has continued pistol duels to this day. But it’s relatively one-sided.

Anyone think that black ghetto Congressman, AOC, or even Marjorie Taylor Greene are happy women?

thalesofmiletus in reply to chrisboltssr. | May 19, 2024 at 10:04 am

Trump and MTG are symptoms of an elite that does not represent the constituency. If the government represented and worked for the American nation, they would be minding their own businesses. But it doesn’t, so there they are.

We’re not too far from the scenes we’ve seen of the parliaments in small Eastern European countries where the fists start flying every couple of months or so. I’m betting on Jim Jordan’s team.

The Gentle Grizzly | May 18, 2024 at 12:46 pm

“I’d like to have an argument, please…”

We have the government we deserve.

Watch the whole CSPAN episode. It is one huge deflection of the Dems to avoid the hearing of the Biden audio. I suspect that the audio does not match the transcript and Biden sounds like a coached Alzheimer.

The Dems love to cover things up and say hey, look at squirrel Trump.
