NYC Mayor Adams Thinks Illegal Aliens Could Be Lifeguards Since ‘They’re Excellent Swimmers’
“How do we have a large body of people that are in our city, our country, that are excellent swimmers and at the same time we need lifeguards.”
A reporter asked New York City Mayor Eric Adams about the lack of lifeguards for the city’s beaches and pools.
Going off on a tangent, Adams indicated that Gotham’s lifeguard shortages could easily be fixed if migrant work visas were being expedited for those jobs that needed to be filled quickly.
“How do we have a large body of people that are in our city, our country, that are excellent swimmers and at the same time we need lifeguards — and the only obstacle is that we won’t give them the right to work to become a lifeguard,” the mayor said.

The man didn’t stop. Apparently, Democrats think the people can only do certain jobs:
“If we had a plan that said, ‘If there was a shortage of food service workers and those who fit that criteria, we’re going to expedite you,’ if you have experience that you are a nurse and we have nursing shortage, we would expedite you,” he said.
“It’s the same for lifeguards. We have all these eligible people waiting to work, with the skills we need to do the jobs, but we are unable to allow them to work because bureaucracy is in the way.”

As far as I can tell he didn’t say that all illegal immigrants are good swimmers, or that being illegal immigrants makes them good swimmers, just that there exists in the city a significant number of people who are excellent swimmers, and thus qualified to be lifeguards, and the city needs lifeguards and would like to hire them, but the law prevents it, so they should be given work permits. And that the same would apply to any other skills that are in demand and there are a significant number of people with those skills here and willing to work but can’t because they’re here illegally.
Your desire to explain what he said in more words than Adam’s actually used tells us everything we need to know.

One can assume that many of the illegals are engineers because a number of them rode a train in Mexico during their trip to the border.

(1) As far as I can tell he DID say that. He said they’re excellent swimmers, not some of them are. There’s some special swimming talent they have that caused them to ride buses and do a bit of walking and then splash across a river to dry land. They usually take boats or bridges across the wider river at Mexico’s southern border.
(2) Lifeguarding generally requires passing skill certification. These skills don’t just come naturally, they are taught. Who do you think taught them, the coyotes? All those terrible people in their home country who were so terrible to them that they had to go to a country thousands of miles away and beg for asylum?
Pretty sure that lifeguards not only have to be “excellent swimmers” but they should know CPR as well. Doubt that illegals picked up that training as they waded across the Rio Grande.

And there is the small matter of rescue techniques in the water, which is the main part of the old course at least, that and just making sure you have a lot of endurance and enough strength.

Sounds like Adams is taking Cesar Chavez’s reference of ILLEGAL ALIENS as WETBACKS a little too literally.
What does “expedite” mean? Presumably they don’t have to pass the Red Cross Lifeguard course, which was nontrivial back when I took it long ago. I got to do many laps of cross-chest carry on a fellow student in the class, a girl with big boobs. These were techniques (also the hair carry where you grab a handful of hair and pull them thru the water) designed so that the panicking person could not drown you.
But now they’ve changed it and the lifeguards just hold out those “sausages” which you’d better grab. They don’t even get in grabbing distance of the distressed swimmer. Maybe it’s easier now, so just any random who can make it across 50 feet of a river is deemed a good enough swimmer. Rather than 50 laps, which is more like the old standard.
Also I don’t want illegals as lifeguards. They broke into our country. Do they care enough about us to save us the best they can when it matters?

Aren’t there any white New York youth left? Whites are often quite good swimmers, and they already have permission to work in NYC. Would he consider hiring a lot of them? It must be embarrassing that for this teenage summer job, whites are overwhelmingly more skilled than blacks, most blacks are lousy swimmers or scared of the water. So rather than hiring whites, Mayor Adams wants to bypass all qualifications and put illegals in those jobs.
