Anti-Israel Columbia Graduates Tear Up Diplomas, Flash Palestinian Flags
Man, my Italian mom would have stormed the floor and kicked my butt if I pulled any of the antics the Columbia graduates pulled.
After this weekend, you could consider my Oklahoma State University 2003 graduation dull.
Graduates walked across the stage with their hands in zip ties, waving Palestinian flags, wearing the kaffiyeh scarf, and some even tore up diplomas.
It was a protest against Israel and the school calling in the police to end the pro-Hamas encampment and occupation of Hamilton Hall. The police arrested over 200 people. The majority of them don’t have any affiliation with Columbia.
My goodness. My Italian mother would have stormed the floor and kicked my butt if I did anything like those people, especially tearing up the diploma.
I know I would if my children did anything like this.
What a bunch of entitled, privileged…people:
In one of the most belligerent displays, Tarsis Salome — a Columbia social work graduate — charged forward with her zip-tied hands above her head as those in the audience cheered her on.
Another social work grad, Maliha Fairooz, appeared to have the name of a Hamas leader — Mazen Jamal Al-Natsheh — scrawled across her cap as she accepted her degree with her zip-tied hands.
Meanwhile, a Keffiyeh-clad Veda Kamra and Hilary Margaret Elizabeth Ludlow received particularly raucous applauses while showing off a “Free Palestine” sign and handcuffed hands.
Others, too, followed suit as they paraded in the front of the audience as apparent prisoners.
One student wore a keffiyeh scarf around her neck and put “Acknowledge the class of 2024 of Gaza and those who will never graduate” on her cap.
PhD students walked out, leaving most of the seats empty.

Different take, she May have realized how worthless that masters in social work is.
Either way, it’s what future employers should do with her resume upon delivery.

Tearing up a paper diploma is a meaningless act. Unless and until these students contact Columbia and have their degrees rescinded, we will know that they are just children throwing tantrums.
If Columbia had any integrity they would now stamp their records “no replacement diploma to be issued”.
If Columbia had any integrity they would now stamp their transcript records with “Degree Refused – No Replacement Diploma or Transcript to be Issued For This Person” and then send a “Degree Refused – No Transcript Available” notice to any business or educational institution that might request a transcript for these people.
Of course, if Columbia had any integrity, those idiots would have been expelled long before they got to the stage.

The reason these Columbia students are not expelled, is because the administration agrees with every single word of their anti-Jewish pro Islamic screed.
I think they’re still entitled to the transcript, but I would add a note to it: “Completed studies but no degree awarded because student declined it”.
If they’re smart they will have brought along a fake diploma to rip up, while keeping the real one, just as John Kerry did when he pretended to throw his medals over the White House fence, but later admitted that they weren’t his.

I agree with the ripping of the diploma especially for the social work student after all your degree is worthless.
That is an understatement, a degree of entry to deep state.
The real diploma is not given at the ceremony. They tore up a blank page.

There are a lot of good conservative social workers from
Christians who are doing all that they can to help. They are not all Karens.
There are good social workers, but they have to lie to get through college. It’s basically impossible to graduate from a modern social work school without pretending to believe in the woke standards of the day.
Fair enough one of my closest friends is a social worker, and despite her insane liberal views she has a heart of gold.
Aren’t those selfish students just taking away an opportunity for some poor unfortunate DEI type person who really wants to go to school and use their diploma for a good job? I mean they’re occupying a place at the university that only has so much room for x number of students.
I suspect that Columbia will have a heard time attracting good students.

In high school, we would have been kicked out of commencement and denied our diplomas (the real ones, in the system, that a college would check for admission) if we had done that. And rightly so.
If I were in charge there, I wouldn’t have had to do that, because those particular students never would have gotten that far. They’d have been expelled long before for monotonous stupidity. And probably from not being able to pass a math course.

The candidates on the Senior Class Committee’s initial list included Harvard dropout Matt Damon, a former member of the Class of 1992, 15-time NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal, former U.S. president Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and Canadian rapper Drake. Damon, O’Neal, and Drake were contacted but declined the invitation to speak.
According to Zafar, the HAA has now reached out to several people beyond the original list, including former Massachusetts Governor Charlie D. Baker ’79, comedian Bill Burr, and Golden Globe-winning actors George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Somehow I don’t think she feels much for all the Israeli kids who will never graduate HYD.
Perhaps the colleges and universities around here are anomalous, but when I graduated and when my children graduated, during the ceremony were were only handed a “placeholder”, not our actual diplomas.
Our diplomas were mailed to us a few weeks later after they had finished closing out the semester and they were sure we didn’t owe them any additional money for tuition or fees or housing or whatever.
Basically, the diploma was held hostage until they were completely sure they’d eked every last possible penny out of you.
If that holds true for Columbia they weren’t even actually tearing up their worthless diplomas, they were tearing up an entirely meaningless piece of paper.

I think it’s fair to hypothesize most of these protesters are female and will never actually attempt to work. They’re the children of rich families whose parents will continue to support them in comfort until they finally marry to escape the pressure of living with mom, or throughout their lives into fashionable Lesbian Spinsterhood.
Their diplomas are as meaningless to them as the Constitution. “ Like it’s just a piece of paper, man.” It has no connection to earning a living or impact on their future quality of life.
Tearing up their diplomas is just as well. They obviously didn’t learn anything while they were there.
