GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher Resignation Effective Today at 5 PM

The House Republican majority dwindles to two votes when Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher’s resignation becomes official at 5 PM ET.

The ever-excellent Chad Pergram breaks it down for us. The Republicans can only lose two votes now:

House:429 members217 Republicans, 212 DemocratsSix vacancies: Late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-NJ) died. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) along with former Reps. Bill Johnson (R-OH), Brian Higgins (D-NY), Ken Buck (R-CO) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) resigned.

The Republicans could gain another chair next week in a special election to replace New York Democrat Brian Higgins.
