Elected Jewish Chicago Leaders Scorch Brandon Johnson in Letter Declining ‘Roundtable’ Meeting Invite

“Before calling for a roundtable on antisemitism, a true leader should begin by demonstrating a modicum of empathy for the Jewish community — we have seen none of that.”

Like many woke Democrats, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has been no friend to the Jewish community in the aftermath of the October 7th Hamas terrorist attacks, something that was confirmed when Johnson cast the deciding vote in favor of a meaningless ceasefire resolution from the Chicago City Council in February.

There have been many other issues with his lack of leadership as well, something that was explained in a scathing letter written by three elected Jewish leaders Friday explaining why they were declining a meeting invite for a Monday roundtable discussion on antisemitism in the Windy City:

In a letter sent Friday declining the invitation, Chicago Ald. Debra Silverstein, 50th Ward, state Sen. Sara Feigenholtz, and Rep. Bob Morgan pointed to Johnson’s tie-breaking vote in support of a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the ongoing war in Gaza as one example of Johnson’s “stunning failure in leadership.” The letter went on to cite Johnson’s support for Chicago Public School students walking out in support of a cease-fire, among other reasons, as more evidence of their dissatisfaction with Johnson’s support of the Jewish community.

“True change can only start at the top. Before calling for a roundtable on antisemitism, a true leader should begin by demonstrating a modicum of empathy for the Jewish community — we have seen none of that,” the letter read.

Here’s the full letter:

Silverstein, Feigenholtz, and Morgan are all Democrats, which just further demonstrates the way that the issue of the Israel-Hamas war has deeply divided their Party.

In addition to their decline of the invitation, two Jewish groups also confirmed they had turned down the offer:

Representatives from multiple Jewish groups were also invited to the meeting, and we’ve learned the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish United Fund also declined the invitation.

ADL Midwest Regional Director David Goldenberg pointed to a video showing anti-Israel activists who gathered for a meeting on how to disrupt the upcoming Democratic National Convention cheering Iran’s attack on Israel as another example of why the ADL had no interest in the Johnson roundtable:

Jewish United Fund executive Vice President Jay Tcath explained that he felt the meeting was more about Brandon Johnson wanting to claim he was trying to do something about the rising antisemitism in Chicago without actually having to do anything about it:

Goals of the roundtable include informing the mayor’s policies to address antisemitism and for the Johnson administration to share its approach for engaging the Jewish community, Tcath said. But he said his group was concerned the invitation was not sincere, and that the meeting would have been used to “simply check off that he reached out and had this meeting and that business would continue as usual.”

“Based upon our experiences the last six months, there wasn’t trust that it would be a productive use of our time,” Tcath said, “and that we wouldn’t be exploited for his own political posturing.”

That’s an incredibly important point to make in all of this.

We’ve seen Democrats like Reps. Jamaal Bowman (NY) and Summer Lee (PA) pay lip service to supporting Israel and the Jewish community, but when they think no one is paying attention, they stand shoulder to shoulder with antisemitic groups and figures who would love nothing more than to have Israel wiped off the map.

Talk is cheap, and if all elected officials are doing is talk the talk about supporting Israel without walking the walk, then as far as I’m concerned, they should be given their pink slips by voters. Because until voters in these deep blue cities/states have decided they’ve had enough, none of this will change. None of it.

The vile Dhimmi-crats are gonna dhimmi, as sure as the day is long. They’re incapable of expressing even a scintilla of sympathy for Jews’ suffering and persecution, and, are incapable of cunequivocally condemning goose-stepping, genocidal Islamofascists and Muslim supremacists. Nothing new under the Sun.

…we have seen none of that,” And you won’t. Choices have been made as to who stands where in the Dem hierarchy.

Totally missing from that ‘scorch’?

Any actual indication that they won’t vote for Democrats in the future.

Well, Trump did write a lot of mean tweets. To a lot of people, that’s worse than hamas.

Frankly, I didn’t find that letter remotely scorching. It actually appeared weak and pro-forma. Yeah, they turned down his invite, I bet he doesn’t sleep for a week over that one.

“Silverstein, Feigenholtz, and Morgan are all Democrats.”

I’m not surprised. Here’s another reason why they may have refused to attend that meeting – If they had they may have been forced to actually publicly fight for their people or publicly admit they weren’t willing to fight the party agenda to defend them.

I gave you an uptick. I wanted to give you more.

Especially for, “Here’s another reason why they may have refused to attend that meeting – If they had they may have been forced to actually publicly fight for their people or publicly admit they weren’t willing to fight the party agenda to defend them.”

Exactly. When will they see the light and abandon the woke idiots.

He might be better off having a round table as to why black gang bangers are killing each other and numerous bystanders. Foreign policy is not his forte. FJB

“He might be better off having a round table as to why black gang bangers are killing each other and numerous bystanders.”

    That would be racist.

When, in fact, it is race realism.

I am so old that I remember that the reason for “defund the po po” was to save black lives. Funny how that turned out. I am sure that 30% uptick was well within the margin of error. /s The half dozen or so actual “white supremacists” are now wondering why they didn’t come up with that idea. Lord, protect me from liberals and their good intentions is my nightly prayer.

The Democrat/Marxists have been tolerant of black and Muslim Jew-hatred for more than 40 years.

Does the name Louis Farrakhan ring a bell?

I imagine LBJ had some interesting things to say about Jews behind closed doors. I’ve no proof, but he just seems like the type.

My guess is that this amounts to a lot of “blah, blah, blah”, and the Chicago Jewish community will continue to vote for this and every other Dem candidate available.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Q. | April 15, 2024 at 6:49 am

Of course they will. They are still angry with Republicans about restricted country clubs.

They chose poorly in their vote for the current mayor. I can’t wait for the Dems convention. Shades of 1968?

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to jb4. | April 15, 2024 at 6:52 am

I believe the 2024 convention will put the 1968 convention in the shade, not the other way around. I believe it will be VERY nasty.

I wonder also if the GOP convention in Milwaukee will be bad. Will local law enforcement keep things under control, or, do the local police “have their orders”?

Chicago black mayor gives himself pat on back and raise.

How’s that defund the police been working out for you, chicago?

Steven Brizel | April 15, 2024 at 6:08 am

These Democrats should be applauded for refusing to meet with a mayor who supports terrorists

Gosport in reply to Steven Brizel. | April 16, 2024 at 1:51 pm

If you don’t go to the meeting you give up the opportunity to publicly call him out for it to his face.

You give him the chance to spout his racist, antisemitic drivel undisputed and that’s not what you were elected for.

Hopefully this is the start of awaking, blacks have been badly abusing Jews for some time.

Dolce Far Niente | April 15, 2024 at 11:52 am

And yet… secular Jews will continue to support even the vilest of Democrat politicians and policies. in overwhelming numbers

Self-gassing Jews, as someone called them..
