Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Threatens to Oust Speaker Johnson Over Spending Bill

The House passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion to oust Speaker of the House Mike Johnson over the spending bill the House passed.

Greene described the motion as “a warning than a pink slip.”

“There’s not a time limit on this, it doesn’t have to be forced… But I’m not saying that it won’t happen in two weeks, or it won’t happen,” Greene added.

The House usually has 72 hours to review a bill. But Johnson pushed through the bill because it needed to get passed.

It’s so gross. STOP SPENDING:

The bills being voted on Friday would approve funding for the Defense Department and several other federal agencies for the rest of fiscal 2024, wrapping up a drawn-out, contentious process that has brought the federal government to the brink of a shutdown several times since late last year. The fight exposed deep fault lines within the Republican Party and contributed to the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) last year.

The long-awaited bill text was released early Thursday morning, and leaders from both parties said they scored wins on key issues during negotiations, even as the overall spending levels didn’t significantly budge from the totals set last spring during debt-ceiling talks. Democrats said they fended off cuts to education, labor and health programs, while Republicans said they successfully reduced spending on foreign aid and nonprofit groups that help migrants, and clawed back funding from the Internal Revenue Service.

Some Republican members protested what they called irresponsible spending levels and complained they were given too little time to read the 1,012-page text of the bills.

I hope it fails in the Senate. This is beyond ridiculous. I like stripping money from the IRS, though. That’s always a plus.

HOWEVER! The IRS said the cuts “won’t shrink plans to boost audits of corporations and high-income households.”

Good for MTG. This bill is a treasonous atrocity.

I cannot believe how terrified these cowards are of letting dems shut down the government. It’s crazy. The government SHOULD shut down for a bit … to give people a little perspective and to let the country have a rest for a bit.

Johnson is passing bills with more dems than republicans. he should be ashamed of himself and should not have to be vacated but should resign.

We are so screwed with these cowards at the helm … They have one power – and it is a massive power – and they are deathly afraid of using it … not even to save the nation. Unreal.

As of today, no less than 21 sitting House members have announced their retirement. While they’ve (largely) pledged to stay until their terms have expired, none of them are bound to do that. With four current vacancies, the GOP majority stands at an INCREDIBLY SLIM 218-213. So, if just three of those Republicans who have already announced their retirement simply leave because they’re tired of the bullshit, please enjoy Speaker Hakeem Jefferies for the remainder of this term.

What happens if Hakeem Jefferies becomes Speaker? The Senate Democrats will immediately nuke the filibuster and legalize everyone they can, which will certainly be enough to give them a permanent governing majority. Then they’ll pack the Court and will do everything they’ve wanted to do for decades.

Maybe Republicans should start spending some time thinking about how they’re going to expand their majority rather than how they can squander it.

Mike Gallagher just announced he is stepping down now and leaves the Rs with a one-vote majority.

Olinser in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2024 at 4:57 pm

No, he’s not stepping down now.

He’s intentionally waiting until the middle of April, AFTER the cutoff point at which they could hold a special election.

He’s intentionally waiting to ensure that the vacancy CANNOT be filled until the general election, like the RINO scumbag he is.

Owego in reply to TargaGTS. | March 23, 2024 at 11:54 am

Agree. The real world is has intruded into the hallowed world of our national legislators and the “nice” people are running for the exits. It is a display of cowardice; they haven’t the decency to simply stay in their seats. All they have to do is keep their mouths shut, let others like MTG do the fighting for them, then suck it up and vote the way they’re instructed,

If they can manage those small things while others carry on for the next few months, who knows, perhaps-just perhaps-the country may-just may-be able to begin to correct course. It’s going to be a close thing. But just think, if that happens they’ll be able to share in taking credit for having been a part of it all. Do they have the courage to simply cower in place for the rest of the session?

      It’s a serious question.

There are hardly ANY Republicans worth voting for, when they cave to the Progressives and pass these stupid bills they NEVER had time to read. They don’t work for us…they spit on us, every single chance they get. There is a reason they are called the stupid party, because at this point they would throw it all away…

Danny in reply to wendybar. | March 22, 2024 at 4:18 pm

Yes it is so wonderful to have Democrats in charge of 3 branches of government, spending really went down in 2020-2022 oh WAIT.

Did you know there are THREE branches and Democrats have TWO of them?

This bill was about as good as it could get without having the senate and presidency.

But please continue try to destroy and nuke any chances Republicans have at any form of influence, keep backing Joe Biden with unrealistic absurd expectations of Mike Johnson that nobody could achieve……

I want us to win the senate and the presidency, and behave with realistic expectations….but please whatever floats your boat.

Danny in reply to Danny. | March 22, 2024 at 4:19 pm

By the way for the couple of idiots who can’t detect sarcasm that agreement that Mike Johnson has to go and we need a Democrat as speaker as pure sarcasm.

henrybowman in reply to Danny. | March 23, 2024 at 1:40 pm

You’re such a tool, Danny. The only thing a Democrat has to do to get you to spread for him is wear an “R” on his lapel.

Yes, but all means, so your solution is to stay home and not vote at all? Really? That’s your plan on how to win back America? To just give up?

Ironclaw in reply to JR. | March 22, 2024 at 7:18 pm

You act as if there’s a difference, one traitor is as good as the other. You may as well just put a democratThe other. You may as well just put a democrat in that seat because they’ll just surrender anyway. While I’d love to see some spine, I’ve learned not to expect it.

Why waste the effort to go vote for people who are just going to stab Us in the back anyhow? It isn’t like we have honest elections in this country.

Lucifer Morningstar in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | March 22, 2024 at 2:44 pm

    >>The government SHOULD shut down for a bit …

The government should shutdown permanently as they are of no use to the states any longer.

She’d make Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker like this

SeiteiSouther | March 22, 2024 at 1:52 pm

Say what you will about MTG, she’s right in this instance. This bill is a slap in the face of average Americans.

No it isn’t, the average American voted for keeping the senate Democrat, and they voted Biden.

You CAN’T get everything with only one branch of government, the bill was about as good as we could get with a couple seats majority in congress,

Shutting down the government is the same thing as giving half a billion dollars to the Joe Biden campaign.

For a supposed “Trump supporter” you really don’t seem to support anything that would actually get Trump elected.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | March 22, 2024 at 1:52 pm

I hope it fails in the Senate.

Hear, hear!

Any GOPer who votes for this trash in the Senate deserves to be run out of the country. But I have so little faith left in the GOP … We are toast. If the GOP cannot even stand up to the most insane people who have ever had control of a country and cannot stop the treasonous actions the government is being used for, and cannot recognize the mortal threat that Traitor Joe and his junta of Maoists pose to America – and to civilized society, in general … then there’s not really much left. We are speeding 200 mph straight into the wall and the GOP is scared to tap the brakes or turn the wheel. It’s just straight ahead to full destruction.

inspectorudy | March 22, 2024 at 1:52 pm

The Rs in Congress are so afraid of being blamed for the shutdown that they become cowards. Unless we have a shutdown, the average person won’t even know what they have done to the future and our children’s future. I think getting elected to Congress for most of them is to make money, not serve the people that elect them.

When I first heard of this Mike Johnson he was unknown to me.
The first time I heard him speak he said some good things with a bit of self-depreciating humor that sounded weak, not to mention the sound of astonishment in his voice…like he had no idea how he ended up as Speaker.
Sure seems to be odd, as if no one wants to be the first to say our retirement accounts and social security benefits will be exchanged for a 35th floor flat in a grey slab without an elevator and two bowls of soup per day.

Maybe dial down the outrage a bit? Look, if we cared at all about budgets and deficits, we would not have nominated Trump. First, for all that he’s leading in the polls – great – he still has the greatest chance of losing this race of pretty much any Republican. Second, he’s also the one candidate we know won’t do anything about it. We know this because he’s already been President and did nothing about it, showed no interest in it, has promised not to cut the main drivers of it, etc.

No, this is just performance on Green’s part. Probably on the part of the people complaining here too.

Tiki in reply to Drewsome. | March 22, 2024 at 3:13 pm

As you no doubt know, Trumped signed the omnibus budget deal which left him zero leverage on major reform legislation – and to fund and build the border wall.

That was with a GOP trifecta.

2smartforlibs | March 22, 2024 at 2:14 pm

It was just announced another RINO is leaving next week. PUting the house in DNC control. Her hurt backside means nothing.

Trump endorsed Johnson to become Speaker of the House.

Last time they had a 6 or 8 vote majority.
Now, the majority is one.

Only a moron would attempt to depose the Speaker in this situation.

TargaGTS in reply to Neo. | March 22, 2024 at 4:01 pm

The majority is currently five and will fall to four next month. And/But, three of the current and looming vacancies are in deep red Districts will elections set in the next few months.

Ironclaw in reply to Neo. | March 22, 2024 at 7:25 pm

Do you see any practical difference if there’s a democrat in that seat or not? Cuz I surely don’t, a traitor is a traitor

    txvet2 in reply to Neo. | March 23, 2024 at 9:50 pm

Only morons would depose the Speaker under conditions extant last year. That’s why it’s never happened before.

Johnson worked to pass a spending bill that a majority of Republican House members do not support.

And it doesn’t matter, because the RINOs are continuing their plan to intentionally throw the House to the Democrats.

Now the latest RINO scumbag that was in ‘leadership’, Gallagher, is ‘resigning’, effective April 19th.

They know Trump is winning, that the majority is going to significantly expand in November, and the RINO jackholes are going to have no power anymore, so they’re throwing a tantrum, taking their ball, and going home.

Danny in reply to Olinser. | March 22, 2024 at 4:24 pm

Maybe he doesn’t want a government shut down helping Biden win re-election, and understands that we could win if we don’t ruin it for ourselves?

CommoChief in reply to Danny. | March 22, 2024 at 5:03 pm

Then why not pass a CR that expires the day prior to the existing mini sequestration that was already passed (1% cut in spending from FY23) goes into effect in April? A 1% cut ain’t much but it is a clan sight better than this AND it already was passed and signed to automatically take effect if no budget or CR was in place.

Look we know damn well that without the WH and Senate we ain’t getting major cuts BUT the HoR GoP majority does have the ability to at least offer the above CR and make the WH and Senate reject it. That’s enough political cover to risk a short term shutdown until the April deadline for mini sequestration.

Doing that would at least stop the Cray Cray expanded spending. In reality though there are enough Rino/establishment hacks to outweigh this COA by joining the d/prog to prevent it.

Folks it is time to get busy at the County level to take over your local GoP, toss out the hacks and put populists in charge at the County level. Get enough Counties and you have captured control of your State GoP. Get enough States and you capture the National GoP…..BUT it all starts with ordinary folks at the County level refusing to let the ‘same old, go along, get along’ crowd to continue to run things. Lots of hard work that will be mostly ignored by normal voters who would rather bitch and moan while waiting for someone else to do the heavy lifting.

BierceAmbrose | March 22, 2024 at 4:22 pm

I don’t get it. That’s not new or surprising. With “control” of the House, what’s it take to propose actual budgets, even individual bills out of appropriations committees?

“Hey, we’re gonna run out of the last spending bill in three months.”

“OK. So, you have a month to get your appropriations out of committee. And a month after that, have your minimum, stopgap appropriation proposal when The Screaming D’s reject the prior out of hand. Git er done, or I’ll appoint someone who can.”

inspectorudy | March 22, 2024 at 4:55 pm

I was in the Marines for five years and what do you know, I wasn’t allowed to “Resign” or “Quit” before my hitch was up. Wouldn’t it be the same for an elected person who promised his constituents that they would stay in office to represent them for a full term? I understand that the atmosphere in DC is very toxic and probably not a very nice place to work but they asked for the job and were given the privilege of serving. There were a couple of times in Vietnam when I wanted to quit and go home but I didn’t have that choice and I don’t think for other than medical reasons they should be able to either.

Olinser in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2024 at 6:26 pm

If they resign before their term is up for any reason other than being physically unable to do the job due to previously unknown medical emergency, they should have to pay back their entire salary and campaign funding that they collected.

Ironclaw in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2024 at 7:28 pm

First of all, our elected officials have nowhere near the honor of the average soldier. And if they don’t want to be there I don’t want them there they’ll just do more damage
