The Pentagon released more details about the Gaza pier President Joe Biden wants to build to send in humanitarian aid:
– Over 1,000 U.S. military personnel
– Weeks to plan & execute (~60 days)
– U.S. Army 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) from VA tasked
– “Maintains the ability to provide unique capabilities from offshore without a U.S. military presence within Gaza”
– U.S. Navy will not play a role because it doesn’t require “combat capability”
– Working with Military Sealift Command & logistics support vessels (LSV) involved; multiple ships “from across the world will come together”
– JLOTS (joint logistics over the shore) operation confirmed; employed last year in Ex Talisman Sabre in Australia
– Aid will be loaded from Cyprus ➙ floating pier ➙ LSVs (or barge) ➙ causeway ➙ ashore ➙ partners ➙ Gaza
– Working with like-minded countries & partners, who will provide security & assistance on the ground
– Sending out prepare to deploy orders (in process)
– Provide up to 2 million meals/day
– Under CENTCOM command

Officials have stressed that no soldier will enter Gaza:
None of the American forces will enter Gaza at any time, including to deliver aid or build the temporary pier, he said at the Pentagon. Ryder said the pier should be operational within about 60 days.
“We’re working to set this up as quickly as possible, but we expect that it will take several weeks to plan and execute,” he said. “Once operational the actual amount of aid delivered will depend on many variables and will likely scale over time. However, we expect that deliveries via JLOTS could provide more than 2 million meals to the citizens of Gaza per day.”
Not all the forces to be used in the operation had been selected as of Friday, Ryder said. However, the Army’s 7th Transportation Brigade based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia had already been notified it would be deployed, he said. That unit is described by the Army as its JLOTS experts.

As long as the US troops are gone from Israel (Gaza is still part of Israel and the territorial limit is still applicable), the IDF is free to eliminate the pier without any legal claim of attacking the US. And Israel certainly can order the removal of the troops and pier from its sovereign territory.
The Gaza Strip is not part of Israel. Israel is currently the legal authority by reason of military occupation, but that’s all. It could certainly claim the right to destroy the pier if it saw it as a threat, but that would be an attack on the USA, and the USA would certainly take it that way. No Israeli government, of any political stripe, would dare do that, and certainly not the weak-kneed Netanyahu.

Israel has to allow it to happen. So long as it insists that its war is only against Hamas and not against the civilian population, it can’t object to the USA feeding that population. Otherwise it’s admitting that its military objective is to starve the population into submission.
On the first day after the attacks, Israel announced that not a drop of water, not a watt of electricity, not a scrap of food would be allowed in to the Strip until the hostages were released. And it should have stuck with that. Unfortunately, it backed down almost immediately, and thus conceded that it is not at war with the population. Big mistake.
IMO Israel had no choice but to relent, because it knew that Hamas would not care if a million Gazans died; and Hamas would get the last scrap of food/water. The numbers “slaughtered” would become too unbalanced.
Hamas wouldn’t care, but the people would. Get them hungry enough and they might take matters into their hands and return the hostages.
But regardless of that, what Israel had was a completely defensible and understandable position, and if it resulted in a million people starving to death, tough luck. That would clearly have been on Hamas, not on Israel.
Here’s what’s gonna happen – Americans are going to be attacked, and killed. Either it will be Hamas directly, or an IDF false flag, or a Hamas false flag of an IDF false flag. Turtles all the way down, everyone will point fingers at everyone else, and American soldiers and sailors will die for no good reason.
At this point, best case scenario is Israel simply ethnically cleanses out Gaza and the West Bank, and only lets christian palestinians live there. The world will hate Israel the day after, just like they do today, so they might as well take the hit and force all the islamic palestinians to emigrate. Send them all to Germany if the Jordanians and Egyptians won’t take them.

Actually Army Engineers do a very creditable job. In 1964 my Combat Engineer Bn. bridged the Rhine River with an Infantry assault bridge in 45 minutes and a Class 60 floating bridge (tank capable) in four hours. Obviously that wasn’t “under fire”, but neither is this effort.
