Sen. Manchin Says He Won’t Launch a Third-Party Presidential Run

Manchin says this on his “listening tour.” He could still change his mind.

There have been rumors of retiring Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) launching a third-party presidential run.

Manchin smushed those rumors today:

“I will not be seeking a third-party run, I will not be involved in a presidential run,” Manchin said.

Manchin made the announcement during a speech at West Virginia University as part of his “listening tour” that kicked off last month with his daughter’s campaign group “Americans Together” — a movement that touts itself as the “moderate majority” that rejects the “extremism in politics.”

“I’m working with my daughter, working with people that we have around Americans Together and putting all my efforts toward that,” he said Friday.

Manchin previously said he would not make a decision on whether he would run until after Super Tuesday on March 5.

“People are looking for options,” Manchin said at the time. “And we’re going to be looking at that, too.”

Manchin can still change his mind. On Thursday, he suggested picking Mitt Romney or former Sen. Rob Portman for a running mate.

‘Alright guys, after publicly threatening to tank the election by running, the Democrat party has agreed to my blackmail demands and assures me that I will be properly taken care of, so I won’t be going through with my threat.’

Manchin cannot be trusted to stay the course. What makes him qualified anyway? His judgment does not seem so great and he was sure played the last time. He does not inspire confidence.

I admit that when I saw the rumors of a Manchin-Romney ticket yesterday, I was hopeful. The concept of all of the GOPe passing out from the drainage of the blood from the brain to their erections at the news was . . . amusing.

yeah Romney running again … that would b sweet
how much of his money will he put into it now that
his niece is out at the RNC …

Go away. Nobody wants you.

Speak for yourself about not wanting a way to take moderate voters from Biden.

Trump’s record for elections outcomes is a horrible one, we need all the help we could get for 2024.

I think Biden has given Trump all of the help that he really needs. Look at the economy and what a mess that is.

We already have RFKJ for that.

How much broad appeal does RFK have to the center.

Actually does RFK have any appeal?

Joe Manchin’s ability to continue winning West Virginia long after it journeyed into red state territory and turned into a ruby red state shows he does.

I know of no evidence RFK has any appeal to anyone (which is needed to act as an effective spoiler).

I doubt any moderate would vote for Manchin. Most in the center are looking at Kennedy at this point. Manchin or Manchin/Romney would get very little support. Dems don’t like Manchin and Republicans don’t like Romney.

Which one has a history of winning over centrists as his path to electoral victory against all odds?

Manchin of course wouldn’t get that many leftist voters, he would get centrists who have a chronic and recent history of picking Dems over whatever they perceive to be Trump related, but are very open about not liking Biden or his policies.

Romney would be there to add to the perception that Joe Manchin is a man of the center by giving an R to the ticket as well as a D, the purpose of acting as a spoiler to Joe Biden is of course not to take votes from Trump.

Wow, how underwhelmed I am that “Que le moron Joe Manchin!”, who was not going to get to reelection, decided to get out before he was kicked out badly, decided to run like diarrhea for the borders opted not to go for a third party? Especially because his scandal-plagued family would have been cannon-fodder for both parties, won’t run?

What a maroon!

H/T Bugs Bunny

Say what you will about Manchin: he is smart enough to know that not only does he have no chance of being President on a No Labels ticket (or another leftist party), he is unlikely to get enough votes to even be a spoiler. The latter would be a major embarrassment for a someone like him with a galaxy-sized ego. Better to bow out now and let his fanbois (all two dozen of them) speculate with tears in their eyes about What Might Have Been.

Well, considering he picked Progressive Democrat Mitt Romney to be his Vice, he wouldn’t have gone far anyways. There is NO WAY in HELL, Mitt should be let ANYWHERE near the Presidency….EVER!!

Joe Manchin, always there when you don’t need him.

Seems like Joe is all ears these days. Does he travel blindfolded and gagged?

Looks like Joe got a check to stay out, just like Bernie Sanders did before when running against The Pansuit Drunk.

Who?
