NY Times Shocks The World, Publishes Piece Critical Of “Transgender” Medical Mutilation Of Children

“’You’re made to believe these slogans,’ he said. ‘Evidence-based, lifesaving care, safe and effective, medically necessary, the science is settled — and none of that is evidence based’.”

I saw this story about the New York Times publishing a piece about de-transitioning and actually making a solid, thoughtful, logical argument against lopping off little kids’ healthy body parts or chemically castrating/sterilizing teens in the name of “transgender medical care” and was flummoxed. What is this weird flex into actually reporting and opining on—against—the Democrats’ latest America- and soul-destroying “movement”?

So I waited, fully expecting a cabal of NY Times staffers to pitch a Tom Cotton-level fit, but it didn’t happen. Or at least it hasn’t happened as of this writing.

The NY Times piece entitled, “As Kids, They Thought They Were Trans. They No Longer Do,” makes some startling admissions. No, nothing we don’t already know, but it’s certainly information that their most loyal readers didn’t know because they have been well-drenched in Democrat lies about how important it is to lop off children’s and teens’ breasts and penises in the name of “affirming” their “true gender identity.” Thus, the startling.

The NY Times opines (archive link):

Grace Powell was 12 or 13 when she discovered she could be a boy.

. . . . Reading about transgender people online, Powell believed that the reason she didn’t feel comfortable in her body was that she was in the wrong body. Transitioning seemed like the obvious solution. The narrative she had heard and absorbed was that if you don’t transition, you’ll kill yourself.

. . . . At no point during her medical or surgical transition, Powell says, did anyone ask her about the reasons behind her gender dysphoria or her depression. At no point was she asked about her sexual orientation. And at no point was she asked about any previous trauma, and so neither the therapists nor the doctors ever learned that she’d been sexually abused as a child.

“I wish there had been more open conversations,” Powell, now 23 and detransitioned, told me. “But I was told there is one cure and one thing to do if this is your problem, and this will help you.”

Progressives often portray the heated debate over childhood transgender care as a clash between those who are trying to help growing numbers of children express what they believe their genders to be and conservative politicians who won’t let kids be themselves.

But right-wing demagogues are not the only ones who have inflamed this debate. Transgender activists have pushed their own ideological extremism, especially by pressing for a treatment orthodoxy that has faced increased scrutiny in recent years. Under that model of care, clinicians are expected to affirm a young person’s assertion of gender identity and even provide medical treatment before, or even without, exploring other possible sources of distress.

It’s absolutely unconscionable what is being done to these children and teens, many of whom are most likely just going through the same puberty that bazillions of humans have gone through since forever. Puberty is not a disease, questioning who you are and feeling sad because you aren’t in the “in crowd” or didn’t get on the cheer-leading or football team (or whatever) are all perfectly normal stages of growing up.

But Democrats don’t want grown-ups (after all, as people age and have to deal with the realities of life as responsible adults, they tend to get more conservative and vote against Democrats); they want millions of stunted adolescents, broken people they purposefully maimed and broke, voting Democrat for decades to come.

But the mere publication of this piece in the NY Times suggests that particular child mutilation party is over.

The NY Times continues:

Yet those health care professionals and scientists who do not think clinicians should automatically agree to a young person’s self-diagnosis are often afraid to speak out. A report commissioned by the National Health Service about Britain’s Tavistock gender clinic, which, until it was ordered to be shut down, was the country’s only health center dedicated to gender identity, noted that “primary and secondary care staff have told us that they feel under pressure to adopt an unquestioning affirmative approach and that this is at odds with the standard process of clinical assessment and diagnosis that they have been trained to undertake in all other clinical encounters.”

Of the dozens of students she’s trained as psychologists, Edwards-Leeper said, few still seem to be providing gender-related care. While her students have left the field for various reasons, “some have told me that they didn’t feel they could continue because of the pushback, the accusations of being transphobic, from being pro-assessment and wanting a more thorough process,” she said.

They have good reasons to be wary. Stephanie Winn, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Oregon, was trained in gender-affirming care and treated multiple transgender patients. But in 2020, after coming across detransition videos online, she began to doubt the gender-affirming model. In 2021 she spoke out in favor of approaching gender dysphoria in a more considered way, urging others in the field to pay attention to detransitioners, people who no longer consider themselves transgender after undergoing medical or surgical interventions. She has since been attacked by transgender activists. Some threatened to send complaints to her licensing board saying that she was trying to make trans kids change their minds through conversion therapy.

. . . . Parents are routinely warned that to pursue any path outside of agreeing with a child’s self-declared gender identity is to put a gender dysphoric youth at risk for suicide, which feels to many people like emotional blackmail. Proponents of the gender-affirming model have cited studies showing an association between that standard of care and a lower risk of suicide. But those studies were found to have methodological flaws or have been deemed not entirely conclusive. A survey of studies on the psychological effects of cross-sex hormones, published three years ago in The Journal of the Endocrine Society, the professional organization for hormone specialists, found it “could not draw any conclusions about death by suicide.” In a letter to The Wall Street Journal last year, 21 experts from nine countries said that survey was one reason they believed there was “no reliable evidence to suggest that hormonal transition is an effective suicide prevention measure.”

Children cannot consent to the horrific things are that being done to them, the grotesque medical experimentation being conducted by sadistic ghouls with medical licenses and political agendas: breasts removed before they’ve even fully formed, hormones disrupted for life, an inability to ever have an orgasm or to father or carry children, fake penises created from their own forearm or thigh skin that are nothing more than flopping bits of skin and fat, fake vaginas that are pencil-thin, require daily “maintenance” and often lead to infection and even death. This is what is happening to these kids, many of whom aren’t even depressed or suffering anything more than typical, biological and psychological adolescence and puberty.

We can only hope that this NY Times article is the impetus to stop this evil. If the drive behind this article’s detonating a nuke on “transgender care” is motivated by money (or politics), who cares? It has to be stopped because it is destroying lives and families.

Fox News has more:

“Powell’s story shows how easy it is for young people to get caught up by the pull of ideology in this atmosphere,” Paul said.

Another detransitioner, Kasey Emerick, age 23, who had a double mastectomy at 17, said, “I transitioned because I didn’t want to be gay…Transition felt like a way to control something when I couldn’t control anything in my life.”

As Paul explained, “But after living as a trans man for five years, Emerick realized her mental health symptoms were only getting worse. In the fall of 2022, she came out as a detransitioner on Twitter and was immediately attacked. Transgender influencers told her she was bald and ugly. She received multiple threats.”

Emerick said, “I realized that I had lived a lie for over five years.” Despite going off testosterone, her voice has been permanently changed to the deeper voice of a man.

Paul Garcia-Ryan, now 32, detransitioned after being a trans female for 15 years from the age of 15.

According to Paul, “Once in college, he began medically transitioning and eventually had surgery on his genitals. Severe medical complications from both the surgery and hormone medication led him to reconsider what he had done, and to detransition. He also reconsidered the basis of gender affirmation, which, as a licensed clinical social worker at a gender clinic, he had been trained in and provided to clients.”

“You’re made to believe these slogans,” he said. “Evidence-based, lifesaving care, safe and effective, medically necessary, the science is settled — and none of that is evidence based.”

He now supports moving away from affirmation and doesn’t believe anyone under the age of 25 should transition without engaging in psychotherapy.

Needless to say, people have thoughts (via Twitchy).

If President Trump shrewdly campaigns harping exclusively about the vile and evil Dhimmi-crats’ “trans” misogyny and child/teen mutilation/manipulation/exploitation; the illegal alien invasion and open borders laxity; crime and public safety, and, Bidenflation, he will win the election in a landslide.

jhkrischel in reply to guyjones. | February 4, 2024 at 8:04 pm

Only if the Democrats aren’t willing to cheat enough to steal the election again. The question truly is, how far are the Democrats willing to go to maintain their tenuous grip on the reins of power.

Democrats have literally normalized the idea of a US president selling out to the Chinese communist party and oligarchs in Ukraine. Add in Sleepy Joe’s child molestation of his daughter, assault of Tara Reade, and chronic sniffing of young girls, and it’s hard to imagine *anything* breaking through the bubble that Democrats live in.

guyjones in reply to jhkrischel. | February 5, 2024 at 10:38 am

Very true. The election will be a vicious fight, to the end. The Dhimmi-crats will stoop to their usual, perennially and predictably lawless, greasy and underhanded sabotage and chicanery tactics.

I’ll be cynical. Perhaps this is to defang this losing issue for the dems before election season.

Many of the trans identifying as females in sports are only transient trans and have an agenda rather than gender dysphoria.

Those type of men definitely need to be manhandled because they are weak men preying on weaker women.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Peabody. | February 4, 2024 at 10:08 am

Yeah. When I was in high school, every guy I knew including me, wanted to see girls tits and ass.

A peek in the girls bathroom, girls locker room, or any other place that gave an opportunity was prime territory. High school in the 70s made the movie “Porky’s” tame by comparison. Any partially successful attempt was handled by detention or suspension.

The current generation, with the help of school administrators, parents, government, and any other authority for guys to see all the trim they want. Any attempt to battle it is followed by screams of HOMOPHOBIA!!!!!!!!

Just remember parents. If you have a son, you have to worry about one raging penis. If you have a daughter, you have to worry about 3 billion other raging penis’.

What a world we live in. 🙄

Of interest is that the many comments are virtually 100% in support of the article. That contrasts with the usual comments in the NYT to an article written from a conservative point of view. Maybe these kids and women’s sports have a chance? Perhaps one day this will be looked back on like lobotomy, which Joe Kennedy had done to his daughter at 23.

    Paul in reply to jb4. | February 4, 2024 at 12:57 pm

If you were a Kennedy male, sport-fu*king earned you an ‘atta boy!’

But for the Kennedy girls it earned you a lobotomy.

    Camelot, my ass.

Suicide rate is about to skyrocket amongst those who go caught up in this. There was no way this party ends w/out major drama.

chrisboltssr in reply to Andy. | February 4, 2024 at 9:38 am

Not just suicides. We already have had five major shootings involving trans people. We are about to get a lot more.

But the Leftists will never be held to account for the damage they have done to this generation of youth.

Lobotomy II.

The operation was successful, but unfortunately, the patient died.

So, a collection of massive, ongoing, expensive theoretically effective interventions against a problem in the event not as severe as claimed.

Why does this sound familiar?

If I were down-ballot “Rs” looking to take over a “D” seat in congress, what I’d do is point to the votes, statements or silence of my opponent on everything from trans issues to inflation to border security to defund the police to sanctuary cities to DEI to ESG to & etc. and challenge him/her to defend his/her position.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Brian. | February 4, 2024 at 10:15 am

Wow! I am encouraged that conservatives would even consider Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules

But conservatives always want to take the high ground, and would rather be hanged by a clean rope than to soil their hands fighting back.

“I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.”

“And we’re just the guys to do it.”

They do know that Animal House was a comedy, and this bit was satire, right?

henrybowman in reply to BierceAmbrose. | February 4, 2024 at 6:55 pm

They completely misunderstood 1984 and Animal Farm, what makes you think Animal House was clearer?

BierceAmbrose in reply to henrybowman. | February 4, 2024 at 8:13 pm

Closer to pop culture. Closer to their own experience. Cartoonish version of their own flailing schemes.

Whether they get it or not, it’s still great fun watching their heads explode when I tell them “Animal House is a fundamentally *conservative* movie.”

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 3, 2024 at 11:08 pm

The article was only marginally critical of one of the most insane, perverted, deranged fads of the modern world. Anyone who advises a child to go on hormone therapy or, even worse, to start contemplating surgical mutilation in order to try and pretend they are the opposite sex, is a child sex abuser of the worst kind and needs to be extracted from decent society and kept far away from any normal people (and children) in a prison.

The utter lunacy of the whole trans-fad and the evil nature of how they prey on children with it, makes this psychotic behavior something that there is no margin to criticize. The entire enterprise is purely insane evil perpetrated by the sickest people evolution has ever puked onto the planet.

The insurance companies will stop the removal of healthy organs from children. Since children can’t legally consent to the surgeries, detransitioners will sue their surgeons for mutilating them. Then the insurance companies will stop issuing malpractice insurance for these operations, and surgeons will be forced to stop.

    TargaGTS in reply to OldProf2. | February 4, 2024 at 9:49 am

It depends on the state. Absent federal intervention, there will surely be states – likely already are states – that will mandate insurance companies cover these procedures. If/When these de-transitioners begin suing doctors, the insurers will simply pass those costs on to their other insured customers. IOW, we’ll all pay for it…and that presumes that these states don’t indemnify the doctors; I suspect they won’t because the lawyer lobby is even stronger than the medical lobby in these states. So, the lawyers are going to be the ones who end up getting paid…again, at our expense.

Keep in mind that if this simply puts insurers out of business, that’s EXACTLY what most of the blue states want. They hate private insurance companies.

henrybowman in reply to TargaGTS. | February 4, 2024 at 6:58 pm

I decline to make insurance companies the arbiters of public policy. I have seen too many examples of insurance policies being dropped after an insurer discovered the insured was a gun collector or even a gun owner. In particular, Progressive fully lives up to their name.

    chrisboltssr in reply to OldProf2. | February 4, 2024 at 9:51 am

This has been a remedy I have supported for some time. Insurance companies should either decline to insure or severely limit the scope of coverage for any individual or company who helps transition or completes a transition of a child or any other individual to the opposite sex they were born as. Once these individuals or companies know they can be sued into oblivion for supporting this evil they will begin to question the need to do it.

The evidence is steadily mounting that minor children are in fact being exploited into procedures that harm them emotionally, physically and psychologically. Exactly what those of us on opposing these things have been saying.

Even the major legacy media is unable to ignore the evidence that these procedures are harmful. IMO, we should take the W by seizing the moment to work for State level bans on these procedures for minor children. Our candidates for President, HoR and Senate must be willing to not only say these procedures are harmful but run on a plank of ending all Federal funding for them for minor children.

Some will disagree with this and say it doesn’t go far enough. These folks will demand that adults not be allowed to undergo these procedures. My response is to point out that if you are in favor of delaying or preventing legislation that protects minor children from harm by insisting on a total ban that includes adults you need to rethink your position. Protection of minor children is a W and within our grasp if we work for it but many will oppose a ban if it includes adults. Take the W to protect minor children today and we can work on total victory tomorrow.

RepublicanRJL | February 4, 2024 at 8:25 am

Democrats need to detransition from communists to being Americans again.

How can any adult with specialized medical training come to believe mutilation is the answer?

E Howard Hunt | February 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Let us never forget that it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her kind.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to E Howard Hunt. | February 4, 2024 at 10:23 am

Women. They are never happy with what they are.

    Make up
    Wigs and hair color
    Clothes
    Nails
    Breast implants or breast reductions
    Face lifts
    Botox
    Extra padding, less padding
    And so much more.

Much of this is actually a fear that men can never be happy with what they (the women) are.

And anyone who has seen photos of many of the “Beautiful People” without their cosmetic crutches can sympathize with this.

“But right-wing demagogues are not the only ones who have inflamed this debate.”

How is accepting the truth there are only two sexes and you can never change that, and you shouldn’t believe liars who tell you you can change your sex by mutilating yourself and becoming addicted to drugs “inflaming” the debate?

By the way. It wasn’t “right-wing demagogues” who inflamed this debate. It was you sorry Leftists who did, and you got mad at anyone who wanted to stop the inflammation.

It really does say something about the sad State of Affairs when it is such a surprise that a newspaper would just simply print something that’s the truth

henrybowman in reply to Ironclaw. | February 4, 2024 at 6:13 pm

What really says something about our sad state of affairs is when movers and shakers in society, government leaders, and “mainstream” journalists all take 30 years to realize a policy is a complete cluster*k — a policy that their parents and grandparents could have analyzed and dismissed in well under 30 seconds.

It child abuse, it should be illegal. Like encouraging child they can fly, giving them paper wings, and pushing them off the roof. Then when they get injured, claiming non-responsibility because they had good intentions and were trying to help them.

Why do lefties and queers want to suppress the data of higher suicide rates for those who have undergone gender re-assignment surgery? Why do they disallow and refuse to acknowledge the testimonies of those who de-transitioned?

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to smooth. | February 4, 2024 at 1:17 pm

Because it goes against every fiber of their being. Mentally ill people who can’t determine what the thing they have between their legs is used for, forcing children who can’t even get a tattoo to have a lobadickoffme, is the sacred sacrifice of the gender bender religion. All cults resort to child sacrifices, followed by virgins, then old people, to appease the gods they have invented in their minds.

They would no more admit to being wrong as a Muslim would admit that Muhammad was a child molester.

henrybowman in reply to smooth. | February 4, 2024 at 6:26 pm

I’m not sure that the suicide risk is higher. My understanding is that for those who are already at risk of suicide from their mental illness, the transitioning process does no more than delay it, if that, because it is irrelevant to what the patient’s underlying problem actually is.

There’s a famous actress Fox? with three children born male she’s rearing as female

There’s a famous actress Theron? with two children born male being reared as female

Why is this?

Why is this allowed to continue?

Statistically. The odds of having one transgender child are remote. What are the odds of having two? Or three?

Nice going, Child Protective Services

Nice going, dems.

You said it. The one thing the Left is good at is PR and spin.

“she came out as a detransitioner on Twitter and was immediately attacked. Transgender influencers told her she was bald and ugly.”

Isn’t this (gasp!) a micro-aggression?
Doesn’t this (clutch!) deny her pronouns?
Isn’t this (swoon!) online bullying?

Dear AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION,

Was this catastrophe fair?

Where have you been?

Hey thanks

Thanks again for not a thing
