Chief Diversity Officer at Harvard Accused of Plagiarism

This comes just weeks after Claudine Gay resigned over plagiarism charges. Harvard is not having a good year.

Not Just Claudine Gay. Harvard’s Chief Diversity Officer Plagiarized and Claimed Credit for Husband’s Work, Complaint Alleges

It’s not just Claudine Gay. Harvard University’s chief diversity and inclusion officer, Sherri Ann Charleston, appears to have plagiarized extensively in her academic work, lifting large portions of text without quotation marks and even taking credit for a study done by another scholar—her own husband—according to a complaint filed with the university on Monday and a Washington Free Beacon analysis.

The complaint makes 40 allegations of plagiarism that span the entirety of Charleston’s thin publication record. In her 2009 dissertation, submitted to the University of Michigan, Charleston quotes or paraphrases nearly a dozen scholars without proper attribution, the complaint alleges. And in her sole peer-reviewed journal article—coauthored with her husband, LaVar Charleston, in 2014—the couple recycle much of a 2012 study published by LaVar Charleston, the deputy vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, framing the old material as new research.

Through that sleight of hand, Sherri Ann Charleston effectively took credit for her husband’s work. The 2014 paper, which was also coauthored with Jerlando Jackson, now the dean of Michigan State University’s College of Education, and appeared in the Journal of Negro Education, has the same methods, findings, and description of survey subjects as the 2012 study, which involved interviews with black computer science students and was first published by the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education.

The two papers even report identical interview responses from those students. The overlap suggests that the authors did not conduct new interviews for the 2014 study but instead relied on LaVar Charleston’s interviews from 2012—a severe breach of research ethics, according to experts who reviewed the allegations.

Rufo wrote in a post on X on Tuesday. “We will keep exposing them, one by one, until the university restores truth, rather than racialist ideology, as its mission.”

DEI?CRT is predicated on expropriating that hich belongs to others at their expense and is deeply anti American anti merit and anti Semitic

Not surprising, since most places have few actual requirements for Chief Diversity Officer:
1. Be Black.
2. Loudly proclaim far-left Marxist viewpoints.
3. Some kind of degree, preferably in something useless.

Can somebody — anybody — describe anything objectively-positive that Harvard has contributed, say, since the turn of the 21st century?

Race relations in Boston?
Child development in New England?
Economic pilot projects amongst at-risk youth?
Addiction treatment?

I recognize that Harvard is a Qatar-front organization now,

And I realize that they are good at hiring liars and cheaters,

And I realize that the Harvard name once stood for quality, like Cadillac and steam engines and MySpace

Is there anything that Harvard has done that’s worth trying to replicate?

Harvardeers are not shy telling us how we should all be

I’m not kidding: With all their brains and upbringing, and good intentions, and money, please can somebody identify any Harvard Innovation that has had a meaningful, positive impact — for citizens of Cambridge, Mass? for families in Boston? for job creation and happiness in New England?

I’d be glad to be wrong about this, but maybe these Harvardeers are just another group of self-annointed, self-proclaimed, self-satisfied fools?

Sorta like the king and the queen of the high school prom … who think that that means a thing by, say, a week later?

    For a while there it was a place to send the self-impresssed do-gooders, where they could distract themselves talking with each other.

    it was a fine plan until they got themselves installed in the real world, and tried to do — or more accurately make us do — their stoned late night bull session notions. See also, WEF.

A little digging reveals that Charleston apparently has authored just three publications. Here they are:

Exchanges of Empire: African Americans, Insurgents, and the New Birth of Cuban Freedom, Conference Paper, Jan 2013

Using Culturally Responsive Practices to Broaden Participation in the Educational Pipeline: Addressing the Unfinished Business of Brown in the Field of Computing Sciences, Article, Jun 2014

The dissertation and the article have already been dealt with. The conference paper is probably just a rehash of the dissertation. Even if she didn’t steal the content of these three publications, that is a very thin curriculum vitae to base an administrative career on. A white man with a résumé like that would have a hard time getting a job as an adjunct (gig-working) professor.
