It’s one thing for most folks to say ‘let LEO handle it’ when it is a rare event. When confrontations become commonplace or the political leadership declines to keep basic civil order that’s when folks stop being willing to allow the ‘authorities’ to have room to fail. That will come at some point just a question of when and how widespread. Will it be a sole actor such as Bernie Goetz? There was a case some years ago, where a young man defended himself and his younger brother against day mugger in Baltimore. They were identifiable, Jewish. The mugger was, shall we say a minority youth. The young man received a pretty stiff sentence for hurting the mugger & the judge said she was enhancing the sentence because the defendant was an IDF veteran.
