Will Harvard President Claudine Gay STAY or Will She GO? (Reader Poll)

Will Harvard President Claudine Gay STAY or Will She GO? (Reader Poll)

Harvard’s brand is taking a massive hit as conflicting reports emerge of pressure on Gay or the corporate Board to resign.

It’s hard to describe what a disaster the Claudine Gay situation is becoming for Harvard. There are competing interests, as I wrote about in It’s important to Harvard that its brand survive Claudine Gay. It’s important to America that it doesn’t.

But it’s beyond that. Assuming the goal is to salvage Harvard’s brand, there is no easy path. Bill Ackman, who has called a lot of things right about what was happening at Harvard, tweeted last night unconfirmed reports that the Harvard Corporation has asked her to resign and she is refusing and threatening to sue:

I have heard from a source that is reliable but a step or two removed from the situation that the @Harvard Corporation has asked President Gay to resign and she has refused.

Gay has apparently said that if she is fired, she will sue. Gay has retained her own counsel.

I can’t 100% confirm the above is true, but if it is, I am sure the Board is concerned about what may emerge in legal discovery in the event of litigation.

At this point, however, what choice does the Board have?

If the Board makes an inappropriate deal on severance or gives Gay a guaranteed position at Harvard, it will look like a payoff to keep her quiet. I can’t see how she stays at Harvard in any capacity.

President Gay’s performance and her academic record issues provide plenty of cause for termination without compensation.

But at every step so far, the Board has made the wrong call and dug a deeper hole for themselves and Harvard.

As we all know, the best time to start making good decisions is now.

The sooner Gay is gone, the sooner repairing the damage can begin.

There is no confirmation as of now, and it may be more wishful thinkning than an actual resignation request.

On the flip side, there is pressure from her supporters for the corporate Board to resign. The Wall Street Journal reports:

In the wake of calls for the resignation of Harvard President Claudine Gay, a growing number of faculty members are turning their focus to the other 11 members of the powerful governing board that runs the school.

Some faculty are calling for members of the Harvard Corporation, the university’s board, to resign or apologize and one professor has even floated to the governor of Massachusetts a new governance structure for the school that would give lawmakers the chance to appoint a board member to represent the public interest.

Kit Parker, professor of bioengineering and applied physics, said the school is at an inflection point and to change the trajectory members of the corporation need to step down. “The big question now is, how arrogant is Harvard? And when I say Harvard, I mean the Harvard Corporation. Do they think this is going to go away?”

One faculty member, citing a carve-out in the Massachusetts Constitution that reserves authority over Harvard to the state legislature, has urged Massachusetts lawmakers to install a government official on the board to provide more transparency and public accountability. A spokeswoman for Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said the governor is aware of the proposal and looks forward to reviewing it.

Harvard Spokesman Jonathan Swain said in response to a request for comment about faculty criticism of the corporation: “I’ll refer you to the Corporation’s Dec. 12 statement of unanimous support for President Gay.”

So will Claudine Gay stay, or will she go? Remember that’s the question, not what you want to happen, but what you think will happen.

Since this situation could change quickly, I’ll close the poll if a result happens, otherwise it’s open until midnight (Pacific) on Wednesday night, December 27.

Gay has a guardian angel: Obama. She stays until Harvard produced a ridiculouslylarge severance package

she stays …. Obama will make sure of it. hopefully it burns Harvard down.

they started as a college to train pastors … look what they have become.

    A college to train posers.

      Poseurs

      A college to train posers/poseurs

Consider this Harvard Law graduate reflecting on his time as a student at Occidental College, showing that he was a poseur before he even got to Harvard. From Dreams from My Father:

To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.

Obama was a poseur before it was hip to be a poseur. Obama’s crafting of his image began early.

My my, exactly the sort of “pseudointellectual” that all our 1960s high-school literature courses informed us the trendy Existentialists hated with a passion.

Obviously she must go, but is positioning herself for a big payday to cooperate.

She’ll sue? For what? Counter sue the lying hack into bankruptcy. She misrepresented herself and damaged the brand massively. It’s time to stop cow towing to the race hustling grifters. Grow a sack

Doesn’t matter because although he specializes in civil rights, catastrophic personal injury, and wrongful death cases, you can bet Ben Crumb is waiting in the wings to come to the aid of a sister in distress.

Heard him singing his favorite song,

      Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, Zip-a-dee-ay!
      Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!
      Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, Zip-a-dee-ay!
Plenty of moola b headin’ my way,
My oh my what a wonderful day!

healthguyfsu in reply to Ghostrider. | December 26, 2023 at 1:51 am

This is not Crump’s specialty…in fact, his only real specialty is not actually stepping foot in a courtroom.

The lefty loony students will cry raciss if she is pushed out, and the faculty are afraid of the students (the animals run the zoo) so she will stay.

What I want to know is how Gay managed to buy a 3 bedroom place in Hawaii for $80,000 – I read that somewhere. And I also read that her salary from Hah-vahd is $970,000, so what’s she doing buying an $80,000 property, at all? I also saw that she bought 20 acres in Hawaii from Oprah.

Not bad for an 83 IQ.

Wow, that’s one lucky (or shrewd) broad. It’s like Hillary turning $10,000 cattle futures into $100,000. Wish I had that kind of “luck”.

That’s like Barry Soetero buying his mansion in Chicago on the cheap.

The offer was arranged as a political favor.

Pardoned him, I think he has a podcast

I was hoping for big revelations from him, but I guess he enjoys living

Sorry lol wrong perp, here I was talking about the governor Blagojevich. He did serve 8 years

4 out of the last 10 governors of Illinois has served in prison.

          Really, that’s amazing

From what I’ve read, there are no $80,000 three-bedroom homes in Hawaii. If in fact she did, then it is a set-up gift like the one obama got in Chicago on the “Vacant” lot next to his home there.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | December 26, 2023 at 10:53 am

That’s an awful lot of “I read somewhere”.

I am the furthest thing in the world from defending this awful woman, but a lot can be written or said about people that is – at bottom – not true.

Also, what is all this Obama this and Obama that? I trend to go for “the simple explanation is the right one”. Gay ticks many boxes. Homosexual, Negro, degrees in nonsense subjects, “published”, and highly visibile.

So, she stays, at least until a replacement that ticks as many or more boxes than she does.

    Nice and simple.

Because it was obamas arm twisting the board that they came to the conclusion that they would support her

Otherwise, she would be out, done….

Apparently she has lots of “black” friends in high places, like Oprah

Think Oprah would sell me 10 acres of Hawaiian re estate for $80,000?

Money talks, and when billionaires pull over 100,000,000 dollars from hhaarrvvvddd and they don’t bat an eye….

Deep throat has nothing on this deep pockets bs. Probably mucho denaro from the ME

    $80,000 unbelievable

People can be low IQ and still be very effective schemers.

She stays and rides it out. The public will lose interest in time. An entire ideology rides on her status. There are other “Harvards’ at risk if she leaves.

0% Chance she’ll get fired for being a Genocidal Anti-Semite

0% Chance she’ll get fired for allowing supporters of Muslim Terrorist groups like Hamas assault Jewish students on campus.

0% Chance she’ll get fired for being an incompetent diversity hire who’s never done anything of note in her completely irrelevant field of study.

90% Chance she’ll get fired for being a plagiarist. WAPO and Boston Globe already sent the orders. Lib institutions rarely defy orders from the leaders of the D Party.

I like how WAPO, NY Times, Boston Globe, and all the lefty talking heads on TV have no problem at all with her racism or the fact that she’s allowed anti-semitism to overwhelm her college’s campus. But, crib entire paragraphs from some other diversity hires nonsense publications in her made up field? That’s beyond the pale.

And that’s exactly what I think of these worthless degrees. 😛

Joseph K in reply to Aarradin. | December 26, 2023 at 4:49 pm

I think you are correct. The academic charges will stick and will be the path out for the Board. They may buy her out; but she is leaving. There are now reports that she won;t release data from a “research paper” for examination. It is being reported now that the paper questioning her results has been scrubbed from the intertubes and that the conference schedule where it was discussed has been deleted in its entirety.

When obama is quoted saying how important it is to “get the right people on the job”

this is apparently the quality of individual he is talking about.

Now extrapolate to

—judges,
—spies,
—military officers,
—cabinet secretaries,
—diplomats,
—vice-presidents
—etc.

She’s obviously not going to resign, and I don’t think the wokesters at Harvard can take the fallout if they actually fire her.

As I’ve said before with a lot of this stuff, it stems from personal cowardice and utter lack of loyalty to the institution that they supposedly represent.

If they do nothing, ‘Harvard’ as an institution is the one that gets the blame.

But if they fire her, the board members will be PERSONALLY targeted by the woke mob and by Gay for ‘discrimination’.

They are cowards who can’t take personally being involved.

So they will not take the personal risk of ordering her firing.

She’ll receive a huge payout (discretely, quietly, indirectly)

and she’ll leave Harvard administration.

She might get some kind of appointment at a place like Howard or U Hawaii or in Illinois. She can really write her own ticket. Didn’t cnn hire Andrew McCabe?

But the main thing is that all of this will get weapon used— to wit, her supporters will be certain to immortalize her demise just as accurately as “Hands up don’t shoot”

She’ll have her autobiography ghost-written and her persecution by powerful forces/whiteness etc will get turned into netflix special , children’s books, she’ll be a highly paid speaker at certain types of events

Etc

I think they’ll cut her loose to eventually cut her losses. Might take a few more days though.

JackinSilverSpring | December 26, 2023 at 12:12 am

Besides Gay’s being a plagiarist, evidence has emerged that she falsified data in one of her papers. I wonder if the data falsification will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

There is a way that Harvard Corporation forces Gay to resign or be terminated, but it is a black swan-type of situation.

God forbid, but if a Jewish student is harmed (or murdered) on campus by pro-Palestinian activists, then she will lose any power/control she may have had,

The lawsuits will follow, and donations will evaporate as a result. At that point, the House GOP will bring her back to testify and Gay will fail miserably again

Not a good poll. Make it much clearer about whether you are asking about what we think will happen or what we would like to see happen. I believe that’s the reason the results are so muddy.

CommoChief in reply to healthguyfsu. | December 26, 2023 at 8:09 am

Yeah. Short term she stays for sure the actions of the Board make that much very clear. Long term? Call it 70/30 she goes. There’s too much potential for undermining whatever remains of Harvard’s tattered brand/reputation if the board lets her stay. DEI fallout, plagiarism, lawsuits by those Students/Faculty and applicants disciplined or rejected for similar circumstances all on top of her feckless response to rampant antisemitism and unsafe campus conditions.

I got hung up on the words.. Of course I want her gone, I want her humiliated, I want her held accountable, but then reality sets it. What do I think will happen? Nothing. That is the cynic I have become..

This fool/tool will stay as long as she wants. Then she’ll resign and get a couple of well paid board positions to supplement her too ample pension, then live out her existence in luxury.

I don’t think they’ll back down and fire her because they are still under the mistaken impression that we are required to back down and be obedient to their every crazy theory and demand.

I doubt they will fire her or get her to resign

Obama won’t back down, so Gay stays. Woke Harvard is Obama’s Triumph. Even a partial counterrevolution will be a defeat intolerable. He’s a petty, weak, sulky man, with a fragile ego. In other times, and other lands, guillotines would be rising and falling day and night.

I don’t see them making her leave and she won’t willingly go. Saint Obama is pressuring them and after worshiping him for 8 years they can’t cross him. Finally, she is their brand they are exactly what she stands for that toxic mix of elitist persona verified by identity politic. she isn’t backed by an real scholarship or truth just , “the optics” ( to coin an Obamaism) and she really is a symbol of all that Harvard stands for :DEI is better then truth for them. DEI is their guiding light and she is the ultimate product of that system.

Or, to put it more succinctly, it’s all crap, and it will likely remain crap.

jakebizlaw in reply to schmuul. | December 26, 2023 at 11:51 am

When Gay wrote of “my truth”, nothing remained to be said. That encompasses plagiarism, false data, as well as the DIE ideology. The ends justify the means. QED.

Obviously this fraud is way more important than a POTUS with forged selective service card and birth certificate, and invalid social security number. Let’s not forget altered international travel documents, ghostwritten books, sealed academic records, name change, altered variations of changed name, hidden homosexual background, and household surrender of law licenses.

jakebizlaw in reply to E Howard Hunt. | December 26, 2023 at 11:55 am

Agree with all but the last example. If a lawyer fails to pay bar dues or take required continuing legal ed courses, eventually his/her license will be administratively revoked, rather than disbarment for bad conduct. They didn’t need law licenses to live off the fat of the land.

E Howard Hunt in reply to jakebizlaw. | December 26, 2023 at 4:38 pm

You fell for that tripe. Ivy law school grads living the life DO NOT let their law licenses expire to help with the grocery money. You must not run in professional circles. Both Moo- shell and Barry got caught with their pants down concerning their right to continue to hold their licenses and the circumstances surrounding their surrender was hushed up- just like everything else with this gay, dope smoking third rate actor.

freespeechfanatic | December 26, 2023 at 8:13 am

She’s dead woman walking. Only questions are when and how. They can’t cashier her without a golden parachute, otherwise they risk sensational and protracted litigation.

The Massachusetts Governor is getting involved? Lower your expectations my friends. Another left wing Harvard type…

Like many others here, I think she’ll eventually leave. But, it won’t be until a moment in time that allows Harvard to save some face…and, it’s only going to happen after they make Gay a very, very rich woman.

Fraud in academia can often be very, very lucrative, particularly if the fraudster is BIPOC, just look at Kimberlé W. Crenshaw and Ibram Henry Rogers (Ibram X. Kendi) as two examples of this dynamic.

will she go, who knows

will Harvard change their trajectory, absolutely not

MoeHowardwasright | December 26, 2023 at 9:53 am

Harvard is just trying to have space between her testimony, plagiarism revelations and her leaving. However her background and outright academic fraud leaves many at Harvard past and present open to investigations. In fact, if the R’s had a set of balls they would start an investigation of all dissertations for Masters, PHD’s to find out how much plagiarism is really being allowed. Might be a whole boatload of people in jobs without the real qualifications. Just sayin. FJB

From Gay’s original work:

“I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

Unfortunately, I doubt she will take the road less travelled by acknowledging that she is where she is because Harvard needed her to check certain boxes, regardless of insignificant contribution to the scholarly record.

She is, perhaps, more value there as a constant reminder of the idiocy of the DEI religion than she would be as a martyr.

Gay belongs to that ultra-left-wing religious cult, “Dopeus DEI.

I think Claudine Gay’s future in the Progressive political constellation is bright. She has it all: victimhood, racial/ethnic divisiveness, woke enlightenment, Ivy League support, …. With her stellar “credentials” she could be the next Gov of California or POTUS.

How is harvard going to off-ramp Gay? Harvard is going to have to find her highing paying job in private sector, and make it look like she got promoted? Otherwise, harvard could look like they are raaaaaaaacist.

Then harvard can let her go, and build statue of her like Laika the soviet space dog, and teach all the school kids her name, to squeeze some leftie propaganda value out of it.

poll maybe should have read will she go willingly, IE resign.
she won’t. and she will cry racism if the board does anything.

retiredcantbefired | December 26, 2023 at 11:22 am

Unfortunately, golden parachutes have become routine when university presidents are pushed out.

She’s black. She’s a woman, I think. Barack the traitor has her back. Not only will she survive this she will receive a huge pay raise to make up for the “humiliation” that ensued. Count on it.

Dolce Far Niente | December 26, 2023 at 12:54 pm

Their ideology is unconcerned about her anti-Semitism (which the bulk of non-Jewish leftists share) or her lack of academic qualifications, since progressives also believe blacks are incapable of excellence without cheating of one kind or another.

Harvard can certainly identify the monetary threat, if alums and donors back away, but no matter what, Harvard will remain at the pinnacle of neoMarxist achievement.

The firing or retention of Gay may, however indicate whether the left as a whole feels they have achieved enough of their cultural goals to brazen it out.
If she stays, it will be because they feel that the smelly peons and their Judeo-Christian value system no longer applies in any way to those in the parasite class.

It has the melanin shield, and maybe has the proper intersectionality junk. But she is doing a lot of damage to powerful people.
I do enjoy watching these creeps tear and eat at each other.

Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

She’ll be gone, soon. I’d prefer she stay and keep harvard down in the mud.

She will stay until the time is ripe for her to leave sometime after or near the next school year. And in the leaving when her name can be invoked as a martyr for the Pro-Palestinian cause with a goodly amount of money and a position to justify a life time of income.

Darling negress is the poster of Harvard, everything it ever was, has been or will be is evidenced in her/his appointment.

Deep State Ugly, to the bone.

Not only will she stay, she will be given a large raise and her contract will be extended.

Will Harvard President Claudine Gay STAY or Will She GO?

Will a pig in s–t ever willingly leave?

What do *I* think “is going to” happen?
Harvard will “stand by” Gay with a vengeance.
Three months from now, Gay will get nominated for a coveted position as “first black female” in the newly formed Justice League of The United Nations.
Naturally, she will have to accept the offer to represent her intersectional spreadsheet box, to much fanfare and tickertape.
And Harvard will find a new president.

Bill Ackman was blasting it all over that his “reliable source” said that Gay had one foot on a banana peel while yelling at her attorney on her cell phone while sailing out the door. Then the four faculty members who attended the dinner at some swanky Boston eatery who attended a dinner with some members of the mysterious cabal known as the “Corporation” (Oh PUHLEEZE stop, Ivies, with the stupid exclusivity crap!) said Gay’s departure was never discussed but the NYT stood my reporting Gay’s dismissal. Who’s to know at this point?!

Quite frankly, that plagiarist brought down the institution faster than a bulldozer.

The school that gave her the doctorate needs to resend the degree due to the plagiarized papers and dissertation. That would make her no longer qualified for the president’s job. It would hopefully nullify any contract or golden parachute.

Another case where an under qualified Diversity Hire weakened the organization.
