OPEC Pushes Back on Globalist Fossil Fuel Phase-Out Policies at UN Climate Summit

The OPEC stance is harshing the vibe among the eco-activists at the conference.

It turns out that the meat industry wasn’t the only group to stage a narrative intervention at that UN climate conference in Dubai [Conference of Parties 28 (CoP28)].

As the conference enters its last few days of climate crisis narrating, eating a selection of gourmet food items that are at least 1/3rd mean-sourced, and 70,000 planning their departures (many on private jets), the conference goers are getting a reality check from representatives of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Countries clashed on Saturday over a possible agreement to phase-out fossil fuels at the COP28 summit in Dubai, jeopardising attempts to deliver a first-ever commitment to eventually end the use of oil and gas in 30 years of global warming talks.

Saudi Arabia and Russia were among several countries insisting that the conference in Dubai focus only on reducing climate pollution – and not on targeting the fossil fuels causing it, according to observers in the negotiations.

COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber told nations late on Saturday to speed up their work to find a final deal, saying there were “still more areas of divergence than agreement”.

“The window is closing to close the gaps,” he told the summit.

This stance is harshing the vibe among the eco-activists at the conference. The hyperbole level is set to maximum.

Germany’s climate envoy, Jennifer Morgan, suggested any call for blocking a fossil fuels deal would hurt smaller countries, vulnerable to sea level rises caused by global warming.

“Right now, countries here are fighting for their lives. The small islands, and most countries here, are engaging very actively on this discussion in a real way,” she said. “And I think it is not responsible to have a position that could mean would mean the life and death of many million people.”

…OPEC’s opposition to any fossil fuel phase-out deal drew a furious response on Saturday from French Energy Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher and Spanish Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera.

“I am stunned by these statements from OPEC. And I am angry,” Pannier-Runacher said from the climate conference, adding that “OPEC’s position endangers the most vulnerable countries and the poorest populations who are the first victims of this situation.”

Pannier-Runacher said she was “counting on the presidency of the COP not to be influenced by these declarations, and to reach an agreement which affirms a clear objective of phasing out fossil fuels.”

The best part of today’s recap is the news of where the next climate conference will be held…in the petro-state of Azerbaijan.

Svitlana Romanko, an environmental lawyer and founder of Ukrainian campaign group Razom, which calls for a full embargo of Russian fossil fuels, said: “We are not surprised at all that oil dictatorships have created a bloody trade union trying to sustain their fossil fuel regimes… We are upset how the democratic leaders and UN institutions let them do so.”

“Azerbaijan is a small scale Russia,” she added, pointing to the former’s war against Armenia and gas trade with Russia’s Gazprom.

Christian Kroll, CEO of green search engine Ecosia, said: “Yet another authoritarian, undemocratic oil state running Cop. We’ve seen over the last few years total devaluation of this climate conference and with it the UN’s role as a meaningful arbiter when it comes to abating the worst consequences of the climate crisis.”

The only civilization-worthy fuel source besides fossil fuels is nuclear energy. Until nuclear power is more widespread and available, I am happy to see OPEC representatives not backing down from this fight.

As a fan of light, warmth, energy, and the benefits that those three resources bring to my life, prosperity, and health, I am delighted to see the petro-states are now taking on the globalists…and winning.

As a reminder about the realities of climate and carbon dioxide levels, I turn to geologic history.

People should not fear a life-essential gas present in 0.0412% concentration in the atmosphere. What they should fear are moral scolds influencing policy on significant issues with little thought on the consequences to humanity.

I never thought I would be a fan of OPEC…but here we are.

OPEC pushing back against fossil fuel phase out? Filed under whoddathunkit.

Last year, Mother Nature saved Europe’s butt with a record warm Winter. This year the continent is already freezing in. We will soon see if they can survive without Russian Gas and Oil. Look for a push for a ceasefire and an end to the embargoes.

My husband is a hydro- geochemist. He said the big oil companies are currently buying up the small ones in this country; this will keep our oil under our control. Lots of recent activity. He’s very encouraged.

Of course they did.

Without petroleum profits, Arabs would be back to nomad status, roaming the desert on camels. Gone would be the ultra modern buildings in yabba-dabba-doobie-do, the expensive autos in Saudi Arabia, and the terrorists who reap the benefits of countries like the United States paying outlandish prices for a barrel of oil, just to finance said terrorists.

If only Dubai had said to the conference “Ok, we actually started phasing out fuel yesterday. There is no aviation fuel at any of our airports and we won’t have any fuel for any but our national airline for about a month”.
All trains and ships have been halted until we can get them emission free so as not to pollute out air.
