Israel has assembled a system of large pumps it could use to flood Hamas’s vast network of tunnels under the Gaza Strip with seawater, a tactic that could destroy the tunnels and drive the fighters from their underground refuge but also threaten Gaza’s water supply, U.S. officials said.
The Israel Defense Forces finished assembling large seawater pumps roughly one mile north of the Al-Shati refugee camp around the middle of last month. Each of at least five pumps can draw water from the Mediterranean Sea and move thousands of cubic meters of water per hour into the tunnels, flooding them within weeks.

I saw someone suggest this over a month ago and thought it genius. Flood them with a foot or two of water and they are unusable. Also gets the rats to jump out of the holes for quick disposal. What do you think the chances of Hamas planning to get the IDF to come in after them then hearing about this causing the sudden let the hostages go cease fire? Didn’t go as planned so back to this. Eliminate them all.
Agreed – a few feet of water makes movement inside the tunnels almost impossible and will ruin any electric lighting or communications wiring and will likely damage munitions and supplies as well.
Get ready though for the ‘fellow travelers’ to start complaining about people being drowned in the tunnels. It’s absurd of course if you think about it for more than 10 seconds…. but most of the supporters of the Hamas movement don’t ever think for 10 full seconds in a row.
This will give *_everybody_* time to react in whatever way they choose. A wise choice would be bailing out (punny) while the water isn’t yet high. If they choose not to, well, watch the level slowly rise.

The pressure of falling water will bypass any doors. No point in having a tunnel systemnif they are not connected. While 300+ miles is A LOT their interconnectivity will make this short work from just a few location. Drown the rats
If they want to completely destroy the tunnels they should completely flood them, to the top, and keep adding water. Salt will cause the cement to completely disintegrate.
Considering Hamas conduct, both flamethrowers and Napalm should be on hand to give them instant justice.
Maybe pump in diesel fuel over the top of the water and light it up. Given the extent of the tunnel network that would be a lot of diesel, well beyond gallons and into acre feet territory of measurement so might not be practical.
LP tankers with the correct fuel air mixture. That would be a fitting end for them, and it would be far quicker than water. LP which Gazans usually use for cooking. they will not need it.
I thought they should do it with Nitrogen to ensure they suffocate everyone.
They (Israel) are playing the Long Game.
Not only is seawater free (outside of movement costs) but it will corrode the tunnels and tunnel infrastructure – with no lights and no air fans even a partially flooded tunnel is degraded.
Nitrogen, fresh water, etc., can be pumped out later and leaves the tunnels intact for the next attack.
Also, note that every bit of tunnel excavation work, concrete slurry, power, wiring, and mechanical support was stolen from moneys and supplies supposedly for civilian infrastructure. Cash and supplies for 300 mikes of tunnels would have made a LOT of infrastructure, possibly more hospitals, housing, good roads, and desalination and power plants so Gaza COULD have been self sufficient instead of dependent on Israel for water and electricity.
It’s no mystery why no adjacent Arab country wants Palestinians to move there, their neighbors are not total idiots – and the Palestinians basically are. Every one that let Palestinians in regretted it. Remember the ones living outside Israel are the ones who obeyed the Grand Mufti of Jerusalems order to evacuate so it would be easier to kill all the Jews and believed his promises that afterwards they would be rewarded with the possessions of the dead men, women, and children.

Yep the tunnels don’t need to be completely flooded to make them unusable as an effective refuge and stronghold for Hamas.
They wanted to kill IDF soldiers so now is their chance. This will force them above ground with an opportunity to confront the IDF. I would wager that most will run and hide with only a minority seeking combat.
Fill them with water. Do it now.

Some of the hostages will likely be drowned. I’d give the captured Hamas fighters a better chance …. drop them off 20 miles into the Med and bid them fair seas and a following wind.
Alaska, I don’t think the hostages will drown unless they are restrained or locked up when Hamas flees. Of course, deliberate murder of the hostages by drowning is certainly possible.
Hamas will not stay until the bitter end and will likely take any live hostages with them. That does not mean that Hamas won’t murder some or all of them and holding them under water is certainly within the realm of possibilities for the terrorists seeking some type of PR cover for their atrocities.
I think you’re giving them too much credit for taking the hostages with them. I’m not sure they consider their shield value above their own cowardice. But they might.

By now, Israel probably has a pretty good map of the tunnels in north Gaza, including entrances that are still unblocked. It is unlikely that there are still many Hamas terrorists in the tunnels in north Gaza. They have had 8 weeks to go to South Gaza.
Israel doesn’t yet have the dominant presence in south Gaza to have made a comprehensive tunnel map for south Gaza. Which suggests that terrorists “holed up” in tunnels in south Gaza could make their escape.
Or, instead of escaping, they could seek out martyrdom.

Furthermore, drowning Hamas should be billed as the safest for Gaza civilians, which the Democrats are yelling about, and save many IDF soldiers’ lives Finally, destroying the billions spent on underground military infrastructure has to be a top goal.
75% of Gazans support Hamas, their children are the source of Hamas and they deserve the same treatment as Hamas. Failure to address them will mean more problems in a short time. America has a similar problem which should be nipped in the bud.

The tunnels are underground. A drainage system would have to be further underground, and / or have extensive pumpage infrastructure. Both of these are enormously expensive when covering large areas. Both could be easily overwhelmed by water flooded or pumped in from higher ground.
Well thank you. I hadn’t thought of that. Still and all , if the spaces approach anything like those of an underground train or subway station , that’s an awful lot of cubic meters to fill.

The best part: Once there is 1-4′ of water in the tunnels, you can add anything else you want. You could go gas/petrol flammable, or a simple dye infused oil. Floats on top, and marks anyone that goes into the tunnel once they come out. Or a very smelly liquid, or……

I expect and hope that Israel will position 20 soldiers at each tunnel exit. When a terrorist opens a hatch, the soldiers will kill him in a hail of bullets. I would pay to be a part of the Israeli team.
