Elon Musk Planning to Open New University in Austin, Texas

Elon Musk Planning to Open New University in Austin, Texas

“would seek accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges”

Musk is not a fan of the woke left, so this is probably going to be an un-woke school, which is great.

Axios reports:

Elon Musk wants to launch a university in Austin

Elon Musk plans to launch a university in Austin, according to tax filings first reported by Bloomberg.

Driving the news: The filings for the billionaire’s new charity, “The Foundation,” lay out Musk’s plans, starting with a donation of just over $100 million to create a STEM-focused K-12 school in Austin.

  • After that, the school “ultimately intends to expand its operations to create a university dedicated to education at the highest levels,” according to the filing published by Bloomberg.
  • The university would seek accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, per the document.

Why it matters: It’s the latest plan by Musk, who moved to Austin during the pandemic, to reshape Central Texas according to his vision.

STEM focused K-12 private school. To offer as perk to employees children?

Is this because texas public school system has become overloaded with illegal aliens who speak english as 2nd language? Is musk finding it difficult to recruit and retain employees for Space-X and Tesla, because top talent is concerned about the education opportunities for their children?

Likely accurate assessment, but certainly no fault to the Texas public schools that are overwhelmed, without much sympathy ( or support) from Biden, who is the cause.

Here’s hoping he names the university what he was suggesting when UATX was announced:

Texas Institute of Technology & Science

(better known by its acronym).

That would be cool. Rice was originally founded as Rice Institute, patterned after MIT and CalTech. Somewhere along the way they drifted off course.

MIT has also drifted off course. Not sure about Caltech these days but it seems to be less spoken of than 40 years ago, maybe because Stanford became more prominent and is also in California.

Or, the Sam Houston Institute of Technology.

The school now known as Sam Houston State University was originally named Sam Houston Normal Institute. It then was briefly (1923) the Sam Houston Institute for Teachers, until someone realized the unfortunate acronym.

It was quickly rebranded as the Sam Houston State Teachers College.

Would the U.S. Department of Education ever I even allow a non-woke series of schools to get off the ground?

With merit-based standards for acceptance and promotion?

He needs to pull a Hillsdale: take no government money. None. That way,the admission standards can remain high and vibrancy at an absolute minimum.

Accreditation? Why? That’s the wedge the wokies are using to take control. It’s especially bad for the licensed professions. The AMA and ABA are pushing their political agenda hard, with the threat of de-accreditation (and thus in many cases making graduates ineligible for licensure) as the stick. They do not bother to offer a carrot.

No snarky comment from me. He’s done the impossible a few times before, and he’s needed on this issue. I hope he upends the status quo and embarrasses a lot of people who need to be embarrassed. It would be a great perk for his employees to have available to their children.
