Boston Mayor Michelle Wu Slammed for Christmas Party Invite for City’s ‘Electeds of Color’

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu Slammed for Christmas Party Invite for City’s ‘Electeds of Color’

“The white councilors were not supposed to receive an invite.”

Someone in the office of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu sent an email to staffers about a Christmas party that specified ‘electeds of color’ and seemingly excluded whites. This is what progressive concepts like DEI and social justice have brought us. Segregation.

If you’ve been following higher education news, you already knew this. Schools across the country now hold segregated graduation ceremonies for various groups.

The New York Post reports:

Boston mayor under fire for ‘no whites’ Christmas party for city’s ‘Electeds of Color’

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is not dreaming of a white Christmas — party, that is.

An invite concerning the Boston mayor’s holiday party, specifically for “Electeds of Color,” was mistakenly sent by an aide to all members of the Boston City Council.

Some 15 minutes later, that aide, Denise DosSantos, who serves as the mayor’s director of City Council relations, blasted up a follow-up email flagging the embarrassing error.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote.

The white councilors were not supposed to receive an invite.

“I did send that to everyone by accident, and I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so,” the aide added. “Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Boston’s City Council is comprised of six minority and seven white members.

This story drew lots of reactions on Twitter/X:

WCVB News has reaction from Wu herself:

Boston Mayor Wu addresses controversy around ‘electeds of color’ holiday party invitation

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said a mistake was made when an invitation to a holiday party meant for elected officials of color was sent to officials who do not fit that description and later rescinded.

When asked about the controversy created by the invitation and its retraction, Wu explained she was selected to host an annual gathering for “electeds of color” from across the state.

Wu is the first woman and first person of color elected to be elected mayor of Boston.

“I’ve been a part of a group that gathers, representing elected officials of color across all different levels of government in Massachusetts,” she said. “A group that has been in place for more than a decade, and the opportunity to create a space for people to celebrate and rotate who hosts.”

The mayor apologized and said the sending of the party invitation to officials who did not fit the description was “an honest mistake.”

Read that again and note what Wu is and is not apologizing for.

Boston voters elected her for her wokeness, and she is just fulfilling their expectation of woke policies.

She a leftist Harvard grad and a Communist. Boston is doomed, just behind the curve of other American cities as they descend into third world shithole status.

Besides it’s okay when we do it.*

*”It” being discriminating based on race.

    Ghostrider in reply to Q. | December 14, 2023 at 10:32 am

That’s exactly what this is: race-based discrimination. The interesting part is the Leftist’s DEI ideology in their minds justifies this action when they practice discrimination because they love the power of being in charge now..

Either she considers herself “colored” or she’s not going to attend!

The Gentle Grizzly | December 14, 2023 at 9:17 am

“Electeds of color”. Oh, barf!

That’s a funny quote IF you apply the stereotypical speech affectation associated with Asians.

Griz, you remember the old commercials with Joe Isuzu trying to teach Americans to say Isuzu? And the one where Joe tried to say Chevrolet? They don’t make ’em like that any more. 😉

It sounds like she learned what Harvard taught her

Slime promotes slime.

I don’t have any problem with her doing this ….. if it were her private party where she pays 100% of the costs. If the City pays even a penny, charge her with misappropriation of public funds.

Even if hypothetically it were a completely legal private matter, it’s still obnoxious, vile racist conduct. It’s not immunized from criticism just because it may not technically be illegal or unconstitutional. Tolerating such vile, obnoxious racism without criticism has brought us to this moment.

Concise in reply to Concise. | December 14, 2023 at 10:07 am

But that’s just hypothetical because unless the staffer works for free, use of their email system and other government facilities pretty much guarantees it’s not just a private matter.

Concise in reply to Concise. | December 14, 2023 at 10:50 am

And added to that, the invitation extends to elected officials, issued from the Office of Intergovernmental Relation. To suggest that this is private is laughable.

smooth in reply to Concise. | December 14, 2023 at 11:13 am

Michelle Wu careful not to display any photos of her white husband on her desk at work? What a horrid person she is.

LeftWingLock in reply to Concise. | December 14, 2023 at 12:23 pm

Agree 100%. But we all have a Constitutional right to be ” obnoxious, vile and racist”. Most Americans choose not to be any of the 3.

But, assuming this were (which it isn’t by the way) a private matter, you wrote that you were ok with this. Even if strictly private, I still would say I’m not “ok” with it, any more than I would be “ok” with a Hamas rally or KKK rally. Having a constitutional right to engage in certain vile racist conduct doesn’t give one a constitutional right to my approval.

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to LeftWingLock. | December 14, 2023 at 12:59 pm

        Not on the public’s dime.

She can be a racist all she wants, but she should rent a hotel reception area, and pay for everything out of her own pocket.

        But we know she won’t.

And no one will do anything about it.

If she used ANY government communication system to advertise the event, or if she used any government resources to organize the party or to print and/or deliver the invitation (and it seems clear that she did), she’s created a hostile work environment for any employees who aren’t ‘people of color’ irrespective if the party was paid for her out of her own pocket (which is also unlikely).

I’m not sure how the law would be applied if she, or someone else, used campaign funds to pay for the event. But, I think that would also be an interesting avenue to persue.

Government email account. And even if it were private, she has a list on white and non white city employees.

Suppose Robert Byrd invited only his white staff members and interns to a private Christmas party. And maybe burn a Cross on private grounds.

She’s just as much a bigot and racist as Woodrow Wilson.

When asked about the controversy created by the invitation and its retraction, Wu explained she was selected to host an annual gathering for “electeds of color” from across the state.

Exactly WHO “selected” you to be a racist, Wu? The Governor?

Wu is the first woman and first person of color elected to be elected mayor of Boston.

“I’ve been a part of a group that gathers, representing elected officials of color across all different levels of government in Massachusetts,” she said. “A group that has been in place for more than a decade, and the opportunity to create a space for people to celebrate and rotate who hosts.”

“A mysterious group that rotates who hosts segregated parties? What group is that, the Harvard trustees? Do tell, Wu.

The mayor apologized and said the sending of the party invitation to officials who did not fit the description was “an honest mistake.”

In other words, “I regret getting caught with my hood on.” Blatant racism is now an “honest mistake.” Good to know.

This is actionable, right? If tax-payer funds were really used, she violated federal law, did she not?

Ghostrider in reply to TargaGTS. | December 14, 2023 at 10:34 am

There is no way in hell she paid for this party out of her personal funds. That’s not how leftists roll.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to TargaGTS. | December 14, 2023 at 7:00 pm

Noting that I am of Chinese ancestry and ashamed of her sharing that with me; she is a Leftist client protected class. who is an elected official. Functionally she can violate Federal law with no recourse available to the rest of us.

“Invited Electeds of Color”

That is so unfair! How about the unelecteds of color?

“Electeds of Color”? How long, I wonder, until these woke morons start using “colored”?

Asian american mayor playing the role of “advocate” for “the community”, so she doesn’t get accused of being banana (yellow on outside, white on inside) by the woke progressive lefties.

Is her white husband not allowed to attend? He must be such a political liability for her?

and the next day they will rail on about how whites need to be more “inclusive”

Is elizabeth warren allowed to attend as special guest if she wears beads?

Would you like to see what you get when you get elected because of color?
Visit any board of education meeting in South Carolina’s “Corridor Of Shame”.

Electeds of color. Sounds so intersectional. lol

Dimsdale in reply to smooth. | December 14, 2023 at 4:48 pm

I think I will take my “pencil of color” and write that down on my piece of paper, carefully selected to be a “paper of off whiteness.”

As a straight, white male I am not sure why folks are.surprised. This is natural conclusion of the last five decades+ of policies, programs and set asides which most folks didn’t bat an eye over until very recently. Expand the protests to include the max # of people to achieve political victory, then reduce the groups actually allowed in the winners circle.

The nomenclature has changed a bit but the theme is the same; Straight white men are cast as the enemy of all ‘people of color’, all women, homosexuals, the disabled and immigrants. Not for nothing but many women sat by as their brothers, nephews, cousins and male co-workers were shunted aside to make room for ‘diversity’. As long as these white women and to an extent male homosexuals were also benefiting from these diversity programs they were fairly silent. As were many members of religious minorities.

What’s different is the emerging neo segregationist movement on the left. This restricts entry to people of color. Now it becomes clear that Jews and other religious minorities, white women are to be excluded alongside their CIA gendered white male counterparts. As are those who might qualify based on color buy ate guilty of ‘wrong think’; aka they are not brain dead unthinkingly lefty.

The woke leftist, neo Marxists are the joint enemy of western civilization. Everyone who opposes them is on one team while everyone who endorses their woke BS is on the other team. Finally, more folks are figuring out what team they are on despite their past history.

    The best part?

People who find out that they aren’t on the team they thought they were, and are now being treated like the members of the team they thought they weren’t.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | December 14, 2023 at 3:26 pm

      They’re “the help”.

Oh indeed! The folks who thought they were always going to be included are finding out exactly how tenuous their position is in the diversity Olympics. Either you are on the team of merit, hard work, preparation, delayed gratification and talent
      OR
You are on the team of manufactured inclusion based on immutable characteristics, participation trophy and neo segregation

Sooner or later everyone who figures out the truth must pick a team and be willing to live with the consequences of their choices.

Another DEI hack from harvard like claudine gay, such a fraud. Harvard seems to produce a lot of these.

The seven white council members should have their own “White Christmas Party”.

I’m dreaming of a non-White Christmas, just like the one made by Michelle Wu…

Where the days are merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be non-white!

    🎶

henrybowman in reply to Tom M. | December 14, 2023 at 1:58 pm

And they should damn well make sure that it is SO… MUCH… BETTER.
Dom Perignon. Harry Styles. Lobster tail. Pentatonix. Chris Rock, just so they can boo him.

So where are the protest’s, the calls for resignation?

Lawsuits filed?

I would be insulted to be a white person who helped to elect this mayor. She will take your money and your vote and leave you out in the cold. Disgraceful.

Boston gets a bad wrap among progressives sometimes. It’s called a racist city. And yet these are the people that make that accusation a reality.

The Gentle Grizzly | December 14, 2023 at 12:36 pm

How many of the colored electeds e;lecteds of color have had the principles to refuse the invitation due to the racism involved?

/didn’t think so…

Is it ok to play mariah carey christmas pop at the POC holiday party?

She’s light skin black and keeps saying the word christmas, which might have potential to cause “trauma” to other darker complexions and non-christians at the party.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to smooth. | December 15, 2023 at 11:39 am

I don’t believe MC qualifies as “black enough” for certain public performances. But of course, Wu is not really “of color” and shouldn’t be invited to her own party.

This idiotic missive is divisive, but, the councilmember who criticized it as such shouldn’t mince words — this email is, first and foremost, typical of Dhimmi-crats’ brazen racism, racial tribalism and incitement, and, corrosive victimhood/grievance-mongering.

Subotai Bahadur | December 14, 2023 at 7:11 pm

People have been noting that the reaction would be very different if there was a gathering where elected PoC’s were excluded. Let me toss in another way of looking at it. What would be the reaction [and it won’t happen because this is Leftist Boston and not part of America] if at any semi-official social gathering those elected non-PoC’s either did not attend or did not associate with the elected PoC’s?

Subotai Bahadur

What happens if the invited Whites ‘gatecrash’ and argue that White is part of the spectrum and thus they too are PoC?

How racially exclusive and intolerant is Boston prepared to be?

So dems have some kind of genetic testing for “white” for party (pun intended) invitation?

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to smooth. | December 15, 2023 at 11:43 am

I believe they intend to reinstate the “one-drop” rule, since that worked so well in the past. But that’s the test to accept those who claim to be POC.
