Border Crisis: Fetterman Lectures Democrats, Illegal Crossings Ramp up in California
Fetterman: “I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border. It’s a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage.”
The southern border is a mess.
I don’t know what has gotten into Sen. John Fetterman. He has been a fierce supporter of Israel and truthful about Sen. Bob Menendez, saying that accusations against him are worse than the charges against Rep. George Santos.
Now, Fetterman has shown support for action at the border, lecturing the Democrats about not taking it seriously. From Politico:
As stalled immigration negotiations imperil U.S. aid to Ukraine and Israel, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is blaming not only Republicans but also members of his own party for what he described as a reflexive political resistance to a border security deal.
“I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border,” Fetterman said in an interview. “It’s a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage.”
Fetterman, a progressive favorite, urged Democrats to acknowledge the large numbers of migrants streaming across the southern border. He cited the nearly 270,000 border encounters that U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported in September.
“Honestly, it’s astonishing. And this isn’t a Fox News kind of statistic. This is the government’s,” he said. “You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border.”
California
Lukeville, AZ, remains the hot spot, but videos have shown crossings have increased in California.
Authorities have street released over 44,000 people in San Diego County since September.

Bill Melugin of Fox News and Ali Bradley of News Nation never sleep. Through interviews, both have found that adult men from around the world make up the majority of migrants.
The majority are also not seeking asylum. They want to work.
I do not doubt that many want to become citizens and work. It’s unfortunate they’re being used as pawns, making it nearly impossible to weed out the nefarious actors from those who want to contribute.
They’ve been told or led to believe they can literally walk across the border without any problems.

I am reminded of that Harrison Ford movie where he is a big hotshot lawyer and after being shot in the head, he becomes more humane.
I know you’re cracking wise, but changes to “personality” and etc. are common enough post TBI that it’s called out in the medical “guidance.”
Medical guidance attributes these changes to physical changes. I don’t think there’s enough weight given to “changes” driven by the fact of, and the experience of the trauma. Barely mentioned except among the lodge members is the impact of the experience itself; your being in the world all higgldy-piggldy, while you remeber being someone else.
What kind of bizarro world did I step into in which John Fetterman makes any sense? Perhaps I am the one who had a stroke.
If I were president my solution would be:
1) Seal the border. No one in for at least a year.
2) Make it a criminal offense to employ anyone who is not a bonafide citizen of the United States. Penalty would be a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole and confiscation of all assets.
3) Immediately cease all forms of assistance to aliens – housing, clothing, food, transportation. Do that and the tide of illegal aliens would rush back over the border like a receding tidal wave.
Make it HURT to be either an alien or anyone who supports them.
and then AFTER that year, reopen immigration on a sponsorship system. A current US CITIZEN vouches for the good behavior and upkeep of any alien. Any problems the alien causes is answerable by the citizen sponsor with fines or jail time. So you would only sponsor someone you know personally!
No. No immigration at all for at least 50 years. This belief that we need workers is nonsense.
We have more than enough people to do the jobs that are out there.
We need the time to assimilate that current group of legal immigrants into American culture.
A very long pause on admitting new immigrants of all categories is absolutely necessary. Possible exceptions for those with needed skills but on a case by case basis.
Fetterman is acting more like an old style liberal. Yeah I would not agree with him most of the time but he is reasonable and willing to talk and negotiate rather than like progressives who if you don’t agree with them you must be a Nazi or something.

I think all of the R candidates should say deportation of all illegals will be the next thing after the economy.
