Retiring Sen. Manchin ‘Absolutely’ Considering a Run for President

Retiring Sen. Manchin ‘Absolutely’ Considering a Run for President

“Every American should consider it if they’re in a position to help save the country.”

Is outgoing West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin running for president?

A major factor would be if Manchin could “reinvigorate” those in the middle. He told NBC’s Kristen Welker:

“I will do anything I can to help my country, and you’re saying, ‘Does that mean you would consider it?’ Absolutely,” Manchin said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker.

“Every American should consider it if they’re in a position to help save the country,” he added.

Manchin said he first has to explore whether there’s an appetite among voters for a moderate candidate like him.

“I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure, to mobilize that moderate, sensible, commonsense middle,” he said.

Manchin is a moderate. He never had a problem going against the Democratic Party.

But would Manchin run as a Democrat? Don’t know: “The bottom line is, I’m as independent as it becomes.”

However, Manchin also said he’s “absolutely scared to death that Donald Trump would become president again.” If that happens, America “will lose democracy as we know it.”

Well, thank goodness we live in a republic!

Manchin concluded, “I’ve never been a spoiler in my life of anything, and I would never be a spoiler now.”

Manchin is a typical politician. Can never give a straight answer. It’s why I could never be a politician or in PR. It’s either yes, no, or maybe.

Not true. I expect an endorsement of the Manchin/Romney ticket by the Lincoln Project as soon as it is announced they are running on the No Character platform.

Thank you but no. You gave us that green new deal trillion dollar monstrosity and just voted down aid to Israel. Never met an issue you didn’t put your finger in the wind to see how to vote so just go away. Weasels like you are what is wrong with DC

He doesn’t actually think he has the slightest chance of winning, but he knows that if he runs, he can screw over the Democrats and basically ensure a Republican win.

It’s nothing but a public shakedown.

He’s publicly demanding that the Democrats make him an offer to NOT run.

Not so fast. He will draw a lot of moderates and independents away from Trump. With RFK and West also in the mix it is hard to say how Manchin will affect the contest. Trump or Biden could end up winning states with 35% of the vote, and third party contenders could as well.

Arrow’s voting theory guarantees that a fair election is impossible no matter how many people run and under what rules.

Not true, unless you have a very constrained view of what is “fair”.

All Arrow said was that no set of rules can always guarantee that a majority of voters prefer the winner over all the starting candidates. You can always construct a scenario where the majority are OK with the winner, and prefer the winner over his major competitor, but there was someone way back that they would have liked better.

But he also said that any ranked system beats the first-past-the-post system that most of the USA uses. And the fact is that the Australian and Irish system, which is now known in the USA as “instant runoff voting” and is used in some municipalities, is about the fairest possible system.

Ranked choice system usually seems to make sure the one that started with the most votes in a close election does not win.

Ranked choice system usually seems to make sure the one that started with the most votes in a close election does not win. Ranked choice is AWFUL as a voting system. One of the worst.

Many times the one who started with the most votes shouldn’t win, and it’s completely wrong and unfair that under first-past-the-post that person wins. When that person really should win ranked choice almost always ensures that he does win.

So the person whose ideas and policies get the most support at the beginning of the election process and at the end of it shouldn’t win in many cases?

“Many times the one who started with the most votes shouldn’t win, and it’s completely wrong and unfair that under first-past-the-post that person wins.”

          AND ‘unfair’?

So we should institute a system whereby votes get counted again and again until the ‘fair’ person wins?

Because that’s what IRV does. And it’s the perfect mask for the type of cheating the left loves.

So the person whose ideas and policies get the most support at the beginning of the election process and at the end of it shouldn’t win in many cases?

That’s right. Often it is completely unjust and unfair for that person to win, and a system such as most of the USA has, that awards that person the election, is seriously broken. That is just simple logic and common sense.

          That’s right.

Bullshit. You have no idea what you are talking about. It does not provide any mask for cheating, and certainly not for their kind of cheating. It is completely open and transparent, and in places where it is used there is no cheating whatsoever in the counting. (There can of course be cheating at earlier stages of the election, by introducing spurious votes or suppressing valid ones, as well as by misleading people into voting for the wrong person, but that is irrelevant to the counting method.)

Big El Paso on that one, Joe. Just fade into the sunset, please.

Can no one rid us of this turbulent keister?

The Dems hate him and the Rs hate him so that leaves the Indies. Looking at runaway inflation the Indies must be wondering when the Inflation Reduction Act will kick in. No Joe, you had a good chance to become a Republican but you enjoyed your power too much. Enjoy your retirement with the millions of dollars you made on $174,000 a year.

“But would Manchin run as a Democrat? Don’t know: “The bottom line is, I’m as independent as it becomes.”
HAHAHAHAHA! Until you were given millions to vote for Dem priorities, you weasel.

Looks like Big Jim Justice is a near sure win for the Senate in WV. That’s a great help to MAGA.. As for Manchin, he really needs to jump in the race with Biden. He will lose as the DNC will fix it like they did to Bernie and that will ultimately draw votes to RFK,Jr. or West further helping Trump. I think Manchin’s too wise to go to a 3rd Party.

well he has to do something cuz he can’t go back to WV.
after the green deal …

Biden + coal = Manchin

Manchin blew his chance to be a hero.

All he had to do was switch to (R) and give the Senate to the Republicans.

That would have stopped the Biden junta in it’s tracks.

But he chose wrong.

Bye, loser.
