Israel Pumping “Exploding Gel” Into Hamas Tunnels
IDF not sending soldiers into the undergrond traps Hamas prepared for them: “After locating what they described as the entrance to a Hamas tunnel under an evacuated hospital in northern Gaza, Israeli army engineers filled the passage with exploding gel and hit the detonator. The blast engulfed the building and sent smoke spewing out of at least three points along a nearby road.”
About 2 weeks ago, I reported that The Israel Defense Force may be deploying “sponge bombs” to negotiate Hamas’ labyrinthine tunnel system and trap any hidden fighters in them once they launch their long-awaited ground invasion into Gaza.
The sponge bombs consist of chemical compounds based around a liquid emulsion. The units can be thrown into a tunnel where it swiftly expands and hardens, trapping Hamas terrorists.
It appears those sponge bombs are being deployed, as well as an array of other equipment and resources.
Anxious to limit losses among its soldiers, Israel’s military has deployed a complex array of technologies to probe and attempt to destroy the underground complexes — and eventually the Hamas leadership — including around Al Shifa hospital.
From the air, surveillance drones seek to detect the hidden structures, while warplanes are equipped with bunker-buster bombs designed to penetrate hardened structures to reach deep below the ground.
On the ground, bulldozers clear areas suspected to be above the subterranean network while attack dogs, unmanned vehicles and robots are used to help explore the underground terrain. Also in the military’s arsenal is a new weapon: a chemical grenade that doesn’t contain explosives but rapidly expands and solidifies foam to seal off entrances, known as a “sponge bomb.”
The hi-tech tactics aim to avoid the risk of sending soldiers into Hamas’s several hundred kilometers of tunnels, where Israel believes highly-armed militants are protecting themselves from the ongoing Gaza assault. The military is instead prioritizing the blocking and damaging of the network — which may not be enough to root out the group and help Israel achieve its ultimate aim: ensuring Hamas’s destruction.
And while hi-tech is a great option, there are times old-fashioned explosives get the job done quickly and efficiently.

The blast engulfed the building and sent smoke spewing out of at least three points along a nearby road in a district of the city of Beit Hanoun, surveillance footage showed.
“The gel spread out and exploded whatever they had been waiting for us in the tunnel,” an army officer told reporters at a briefing at Zeelim Ground Forces Base in southern Israel.
One aspect of this news story that I find particularly disturbing is the call for Israel to prove these tunnels exist.
The Israeli military released footage of a tunnel opening from within the largest hospital in Gaza on Thursday, the first evidence to support its claims that Hamas’s vast tunnel network runs underneath the medical facility.
With pressure mounting on Israel to show proof to justify sending troops into the Al-Shifa Hospital, Israel said it was still in the process of combing through the complex. Hamas has denied the claims that it has used the medical facility as a command center and has requested that the hospital be reviewed by international organizations.
Without giving too much away, the Israeli Defense Force offers proofs:

But social media and “Palestine” supporters offer a steady stream of denials:

It appears arch-terrorist Yahya Sinwar, now Hamas prime minister in Gaza and de facto leader of the movement, was inspired to construct the underground city during his time in an Israeli prison. He offered this statement about the extent of tunnels underneath Gaza:
In May 2021, during Operation Guardian of the Walls, the IAF bombed what it termed Hamas’s “metro” and claimed to have “critically” damaged it.
The following month, in his victory speech after the end of the operation, Sinwar announced that in Israel “they say they destroyed 60 miles of Hamas tunnels. I tell you that in the Gaza Strip, there are over 300 miles of tunnels. So, even if their story is true, they only destroyed 20% of the tunnels.”
There’s no reason to think that Sinwar was lying in his speech.
Using math and common sense, there were 240 miles left in 2021. Certainly the “humanitarian” aid pouring into Gaza helped repair the 60 miles, and likely added to the tunnel complex. Those tunnels aren’t cheap, either.
The Israeli military has provided estimates in 2014 that Hamas spent around $30 to $90 million, and poured 600,000 tons of concrete, in order to build three dozen tunnels. Some tunnels were estimated to have cost $3 million to construct.
I wish the Israelis continued success as they use all the tools and resources to destroy Hamas’ terror web, especially the tunnel system it clearly valued more than the citizens of Gaza.

This is very similar to what I was advocating, flooding tunnels with LP or LNG and a host of other flammable materials & the right amount of air. That is the same thing as thermobaric bombs above ground. It bet Gaza low life are terrorized. A bright spot in a horrible situation. Many of them will be killed so fast that their puny brains will not know what happened. Buy those at the outer edge of the pressure wave will have a chance to understand.

An unseasonably and surprisingly hard rain is suddenly drencing the area. If it keeps raining this hard, those tunnels are going to fill up with water and HAMAS will be in deep H2O.

I have a feeling the blast-proof covers on those tunnels may just be waterproof is well. This isn’t Gaza’s first rainstorm, and this is not the terrorists’ first rodeo.

Imagine if instead of building this elaborate tunnel network, Hamas had used that time, energy, and money building a successful city-state.
Or, imagine if Singaporeans, instead of building a city-state, spent their time instead building tunnel networks to launch attacks on their neighboring Malaysians.

I like the idea of flooding the tunnels with water from the Mediterranean Sea. Just pipe it in and fill every nook and cranny.

I can sympathize. Last week, I turned water on to my “south 40” — a pipe network I hadn’t used or maintained in about 20 years. It was a little bit of Yellowstone in central Arizona.
I also thought the idea was genius for it’s simplicity. All you need is a couple of feet of water in the tunnels to make them unusable. Build a pipeline, turn on the pump and watch for the rats to come to the surface and shoot them.
Filling with water would be a slow process and allow them time to get out, better to use other methods which either incinerate them in the tunnels or blow charred pieces out of the entrances.
Also, there should not be any more aid allowed, they have abused it. Hamas does not care about their people, why should we. They are the source of Hamas recruits, the source should be eliminated.
The advantage to flooding the tunnels is that it destroys the tunnels long term. Support beams rot or rust, cracks grow etcetera.
And if the Hamas fighters come out of the tunnels they will run right into IDF forces. Furthermore any supplies/weapons would be destroyed by the salt water. Don’t get me wrong explosives in the tunnels will do damage so do that as well. I am not saying one or the other but both and other options ( gases as well for example). I want every option available.
I like your point about salt water, it might even make sense to enhance salt content. It will definitely destroy those tunnels over time.
Flood them with seawater. Let them sit for a month. Re-flood them. Then run the equivalent of bangalore torpedoes down through them (with the water still present – because water is basically an amplifier for explosive shock) and let fly with the

Only stronger because the destruction will be worse. And just like always they will absolutely positively swear that there will be ironclad failsafe safeguards to make sure that none of them are is diverted to rebuild or expand the terrorist network.
And those safeguards will work about as well as they have in the past.

For some reason I am reminded of an old [over a decade ago] method of dealing with burrowing rodents. It was called a “Rodenator”. Basically, you piped into the burrows propane and oxygen under pressure with hoses and then trigger it. The blast killed the rodents by fire, pressure, and removing breathable air, while collapsing the burrows. Of course, since it worked the EPA decided to ban it.
CountMontyC suggests filling the tunnels with water from the Med. I like the idea too, but getting the water the miles from the sea to the tunnel mouth in the quantities needed is the problem.

I’d thought of something like the Rodenator, too, but then Israel (and the world) would have to accept that all of the hostages are dead.
As to flooding via the Med, I suspect that at least some tunnel openings are relatively close to the shore. Flooding gopher tunnels with a garden hose didn’t always work, either, but did force some to the surface. The Israelis would have to remember to remove the pipes when done or they might come back as rockets.
Those hostages who are not dead probably wish they were.

Male captives are just as likely to be raped. Rape is used as a tool of psychological abuse against captives to break their will and make them more compliant. It demonstrates that the captor has total dominion over the body of the captive.
The hostages are all dead. They were dead when it became apparent to Hamas that the hostages were not going to given them an advantage in the upcoming conflict.

This could ha been formulated like Napalm with additional oxidizer. I bet adding high nitrogen fertilizer to a gasoline polystyrene mix in the right proportions would work well. The beauty of alternative uses for common items. The funny part is that 83 IQ people like Palestinians would not be smart enough to to produce something like this or anticipate others doing so. Knowing how stuff works is suspicious — you might understand what they are doing, do things yourself, or both. Can’t have that.
The idea I liked- put a jet engine at a tunnel engine. Exhausting into the tunnel. Start it up and keep it running for a few days. Gonna get hot and uncomfortable followed by deadly fast. And in a short whole- a thermal scanner from above will be able to trace the tunnel. And tunnel exits will be warmer- giving more jet engine placement places.
The exhaust gas is travelling at a few hundred MPH.
I thought it interesting that Hamas was counting on booby trapping the tunnels and dragging the IDF into costly underground warfare dragging out the conflict long enough for the international outcry forcing Israel to stop gets too loud to ignore. Great plan but it takes two to tango and the IDF is refusing to play. Hamas overplayed their hand in the slaughter, thought it was great at the time and celebrated not realizing exactly what they had done.
I think the theory that Iran trained them, supplied them and then was stunned at how “successful” Hamas was and now doesn’t know what to do except sit back and count the billions Brandon is throwing at them. The difference between something which burns slowly like Napalm and and explosion is oxidizer.. In terms of use, it is ok to near the low oxidizer fire, but not when there is a lot of oxidizer. I the case of Napalm, there are lots of carcinogens present with the slow burn.
The tunnel that “proved to be a ‘water reservoir'” tracks since Hamas has been known to use humanitarian aid infrastructure (water pipes) to improvise weapons. I doubt that was proved at all and doubt a twitter palestinian mouthpiece would know the difference even if they wanted to.
